Ashley Wagner

I was pretty skeptical when I heard about the 3peat of Moulin Rouge. But from her very first movement I was convinced. I was amazed at the emotion she showed in the first 5 seconds. A few small changes in the choreo kept it interesting for me. A big improvement in the choreo between the Lo combo and Flip.

Her lutz and flip look bigger and better.

Final spin combo much improved.

And I love the new sparkly dress. A big improvement over the last red one.

I'm so happy that Ashley took back that SP.
That has been program that i have been watch over and over again from tube.
And every time i enjoy it like i see it first time.

I love that program too, but I didn’t enjoy it as much this time, it seemed to me to be a little too “balletic” and not bringing enough sass?
Might that have been camera angles?
Unless she was told to tone it down...or *it* was just a “first comp of the season” thing (if there was an *it* and not just me being picky).
I hope she can really amp up the sass factor, that sets the program apart IMHO.
(As I’m writing this I realise that if I’d seen this version and not the 2016 one, I’d be like, “omggg that was awesome!!” So yeah I do know it’s a super critical comment.).

I don't think this new red dress is at her usual standard for fabulous dresses. In my opinion nothing can beat her white dress. I wish she would go back to that or make a red version of the red dress. That could be awesome!

I agree. It definitely lacked her usual energy and attack. She looked nervous and stiff

I feel like she is trying to be very literal with her dresses and copies what the character wore in the movie. The Most memorable dresses where the white one and the red one. There are no others that were so striking. I think she is limiting herself by sticking so closely to the movie but I do like this new one

Yeah there was something “off” about the dresses for me, too :( neither looked like anything special!

Was Satine’s dress red in Moulin Rouge? (Sorry for the ignorance, all I recall from that movie is the Lady Marmalade film clip lol). Did the “glam” look Ashley had in ‘16 look more like Satine overall? (The up-do, the gemstone neckline...)
Personally, I wouldn’t sacrifice a “wow” factor for a literal one.

I saw her SP dress as too generic, a black dress can suit practically any program, and this one in particular looked too plain/Classic , especially for HHCC. Was almost as if she were out there in a super nice practice dress. Her hair didn’t help matters either, the blonde made her look so wholesome & girl-next-door....gahhh, I sound horrible!! It just drives me crazy ‘cause I love Ashley and it’s hard to see (at least what I interpret as) a poor imitation of her best embodiment of a character.
This has got to be one of the worst things about re-doing programs, any change will lead to comparisons. I guess we’ve got to hope the judges like the change!

Ok, looked it up (should’ve done that in the first place, my bad!), I can see the significance of the red dress.
Still didn’t think this particular one either screamed “Satine!!” at me though, nor had a wow factor.
I think the literal thing is beneficial when it specifically brings to mind a character, like Yulia’s red coat did, or the headpieces for Scheherazade. Or Zagi’s tutu.
Here, if anything really connected Ashley to the character physically, it was the red hair IMO.

Yes! The red hair was striking on her. I think she needs to go back to it. I am not a fan of the blonde.

I just saw this Oct. 26 article, and I thought others might be interested in reading it. https://www.teamusa.org/News/2017/O...Makes-Program-Choice-That-Much-More-Important
"For Figure Skaters, Olympic Pressure Makes Program Choice That Much More Important." by Nick McCarvel

Ashley said, “For me I knew that this feeling wasn’t going to go away, and if I’m doubting a program it will only grow and grow from there. You put in so much work into these programs – you spend a week (and spend money) getting something choreographed and then at the end of the day say, ‘Well, that was fun… but that’s not it.’ It’s a tough call to make, especially going back to a program that the judges have seen before.”

Ashley seemed to have a fun day of press events in NYC yesterday. She was on The Today Show and skated at Rockefeller center for those of you who missed it. She was also on Watch what happens live with Andy Cohen on Bravo as a guest bartender. She looked stunning and was charming and funny the few times they talked to her.

Now time to buckle down and train for the next 3 weeks to kick butt at Skate America!

^^^ That was the first time I agreed with all of Donovan's picks for an event!

So is Ashley back together with Eddy? In Nathan's latest Instagram story he's at their rink learning how to jump an axel from Ashley. It would be completely weird for him to fly to LA just to hang out with his ex.

I would not jump to any conclusions based on Nathan's Instagram story.

FWIW: Some ex-couples have enduring friendships that can be very strong.

Plus it is impossible to tell from Nathan's Instagram story whether Eddy was in SoCal for one or more major reasons that had nothing at all to do with Ashley. Perhaps all he did with her was to visit her at the rink for an hour or whatever. Who knows?

(Not to mention that off the top of my head, I have no idea where Eddy is based at this point?? Is baseball still his livelihood?)

OMG. I ususally whiz through the commercials on my DVR but I just watched the Skate Canada Ladies LP (on NBC) and happened to see Ashley's Bridgestone commercial. SO CUTE!!

Oh god, I hope not. No distractions for the Olympics.

It really is adorable. I saw it on one of the NBC broadcasts also, maybe for Rostelecom. What's so great is that it incorporates her tongue-in-cheek attitude toward herself, while she's being proud of her sport. "The last (or final?) rotation is the hardest," she says with a sidelong smile.

In case someone hasn't seen it, here's a link to the Get Up campaign page. At the bottom, click on Ashley's picture for her Get Up moment, which is funny and serious all at once. Just in case we didn't suspect, she tells us how she really was afraid in that moment that .... well, you'll see.
