Ashley Wagner

Awww, thank you!! Yes I will be soon - I've been busy busy lol. I'm competing in LA next weekend (and will be skating where Ashley trains, maybe I'll run in to her again??) and I've been getting ready for it. Probably once I get back I can "sink my teeth" in to it.

Oh, I hope you do get to see her again. If you do, tell her how much we love her. :)

And all the best of luck to you at your competition.:hap10:

Sorry skylark I took so much time to answer you. :o:
I don't remember exactly but they exchanged words about the daily struggle of being a lefty skater , and some things about following her dreams and never give up no matter what. :)
She should be in Marseille at next GPF and we'll be there, we crave seeing her skate live again!

And btw, I CAN'T WAIT to know what her new programs will be. She's sustains the suspense every day that's almost unbearable :tantrum:

I'm glad to read your reply, whenever it comes. You've just confirmed again one of the things we  about Ashley: that she's spontaneous and fun whether she's speaking to fans or interviewers. Though we :luv17:  :luv17: her skating the most!

WHEN (not "if," LOL) you see Ashley in Marseille, do post about it. Long and often, as they say. :)

I really like watching Alisa, her skating skills and musicality are especially impressive as for 13-year-old girl. She's surely inspired by her - I see common points between those two :)

Me, too! When I first saw her skate during Junior Grand Prix last season, I thought of Ashley, without knowing they'd ever met.

uhm, please no^^ not another warhorse :noshake: I don't doubt that Ashley can pull off a very convincing Sheherazade, but I want a more modern character for her programms, like in Moulin Rouge. And definetly lyrics for Ash. No grand orchestra or classic ballet/ opera piece. Something that bring out her fire, is well known, but not too well known

I agree, Ashley is not a warhorse girl. However, Ashley doesn't always need lyrics. And there are plenty of "classical" pieces that would be fabulous for Ashley. Shostakovich 10th Symphony, mvt 2...Mahler Symphony No. 3, 5, 6 (pretty much any of his symphonies)...Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring...Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe....there's plenty of options for Diva Wagner.

Ok, so I saw Ashley train!! I didn't get to talk to her (she was on the phone when she got off the ice and still was when she left, so I didn't want to bother her) but wow!! It was so cool to watch her train. She didn't train any programs so I still don't know what she's skating to (and even if I did I wouldn't be telling you guys ) It was just great to see her again. It seems Raf has private ice for his skaters at this new rink in Lakewood, which I don't think they got in Artesia. It definitely seems like a better atmosphere for them. I did skate on an open freestyle, and while I was skating by the entrance, Ashley walked right up!! I about had a heart attack but focused on not looking like an idiot in front of the coach I dream of some day working with
She didn't see me, but it was sooooo cool and I think my practice got infinitely better once she showed up and was warming up by the door. If she did see me, I hope I looked like I somewhat knew what I was doing LOL.
I also saw Hannah Miller, Olivia Serafini and So Youn Park! Really wishing I had the courage to ask them for a picture considering we were all at the same bench, but alas, I didn't. Oh well.

I really enjoyed this interview of Ashley and Adam, and I hadn't seen it. Thank you for linking it!

Love that music ! (I'm a huge Muse fan) Can't wait to see the whole program. Very different for Ashley and very promising ;)

This recap has a fabulous section about Ashley and her two skates at WC. The 3 talk about how Ashley silenced all the negative comments about her, going into worlds, by her performance. They talk about how she's one of the most natural performers; that she's irreverent and accessible and able to be herself. William says that from the beginning of her career, Ashley defied all the externally imposed boundaries that others put on her. She continues to surprise us with new improvement, new mentality, new training method.

This WC recap by Lutz & Glory is one I just found. The part about Ashley begins at 39:10 & runs for 7 or 8 min. This is Part 2 of their WC recap. Enjoy!

This is a quote from the May IN article about Ashley. I'm curious: What are your thoughts about what Ashley says here?
The whole quote, and maybe especially the last two sentences.

"Part of what my strength is as an athlete is that I'm a performer," she said. "I draw on real emotions. I'm not an emotional person: I was a military kid; it's ingrained in me. On the ice is the one place where I'm so much more vulnerable. If I'm going through something, on the ice is where I feel it and experience it the most. I have to be very conscious of where I am mentally and emotionally. Things help me from beyond on the rink."

Finally some news from Ashley about this season. From the Ice Network article we finally hear something about her SP and why it's so late. Glad to hear several things:

1. That Jeff Buttle is choreographing her short. The Dangerous Woman program he did for her for SOI was beautiful and I think she really connected with it.

2. That she had a full month and a half at home with Raf to sharpen things up with her combinations.

3. That she went to a "spin doctor" to improve her spins (and plans to go again this season). Looking forward to seeing all level 4s on her spins.

4. That she was smart enough and brave enough to admit that the 1st LP she did with Shae-Lynn wasn't working for her. So Muse was the 2nd one - explains why she's so late on the short. We wouldn't want another Romeo and Juliet disaster because going back to Moulin Rouge (as much as I love that program) for a 3rd season is not an option.

Can't wait to see the new and improved Ashley.
