Is there a way of alerting moderators to threads which duplicate the discussion in an existing thread, so that they can be merged? The poster has not said anything inappropriate, so I don't want to use the 'report' button. I don't think he realised that there was a thread which was already discussing the same competition and issues. I have looked in the help and forum guidelines sections and I can't see any instructions for how to ask for threads to be merged. Apologies if I am missing something obvious.

I use the report button to direct the moderators' attention to technical sort of problems, like misspelled thread titles or threads in the wrong forum. They've often made the requested correction and never complained about it.
Sometimes people make an explanatory post (like "this is already being discussed in thread ABC in forum XYZ") and then report their own post to bring it to the moderators' attention.
I've seen a lot of post asking moderators' to move a post to the LUTZ forum from the EDGE. That's a mistake a lot of new posters make, and their post will get more (and more suitable) attention if it's in the right place.

In this instance the mods seem to have spotted and moved it themselves. It is helpful to know the 'accepted' approach for the future, though.
