(At last! ) A true Princess on Ice

Thanks for this thread. Really interesting. learn a little culture, history and see the princess skate.

There is absolutely no question she is related to the former Emperor Hirohito. Here she is with her mom and the emperor as a young man -- See: http://fyad.org/ssxx

Great-granddaughter I believe.

Wow they look so alike! It's interesting that whatever wife they bring in, the kids always end up looking alike the emperor. How strong the blood is;)

The Royals/Royal History is one of my passions/major interests, so I'm shocked I missed this. I'll have to check that video out at another time though. On dial up and not feeling that great either. First time online today and have a lot to catch up on. Anyway...

Speaking of the Windsors and their families history of taking part in Equestrian events....

Princess Anne's daughter Zara Phillips is the reigning World Champion in Three Day Eventing and is considered one of the favourites headed to Bejing in that event. She's very talented and, of course, it helps she's got a lovely horse in Toytown too.

There are also handful of Arabian princes competing in major equestrian events. But horseback riding is quite different from skating in a costume that will be considered outrageously skimpy to royal standard. I have a feeling we will never get to see any Arab princess skater.

Oops I forgot about "okyakusama" lol. I got called okyakusama several times at department store. Still, I'm kinda allergic to being called or calling someone "sama". I know it shows respect and politeness, but I probably just do not grasp the concept of hierarchy.

Okay let me give you another example that's not necessarily associated with hierarchy. I would call you Wrlmy-san, but would refer to your family members with sama, like, " How is your father-sama (Oto-sama)?" This usage is not about hierarchy, but just to show adequate respect and politemess to the other person's significant others. The same goes with your mother-sama (Oka-sama), your older sister-sama (one-sama), your older brother-sama (oni-sama), your daughter-sama (ojo-sama), your son-sama (obocchama), and your grandchildren-sama (omago-sama) etc (but interesting exception is that we just use "san" for younger sis and younger bro. don't know why).

So because "sama" is such an everyday language, referring this princess as Kako-sama does not sound that special or annoying to me. JMO.

And yes, I totally agree with you that we won't see Arabian ice princess at least for a long time!

Thanks. That does make more sense now. Anyway, I just found referring to the princess as Kako sama in a competitive event "special" not that I find the title itself weird or annoying. Just like "princess Caroline" sounds more casual than Kako sama:p
