balancing off-ice - your "split"

hello everyone! i'm curious as to how those of you who do off-ice training split your time between its little mini-disciplines: particularly, between strength training (weights and plyometric exercises), cardio, and actually performing off-ice jumps. currently i'm doing off-ice jumps every day i do not skate (lots of repetition of the jumps i'm working on that day, especially 2a lol), which usually takes 30-60 minutes. this has been beneficial in developing strength but i would like to spend more time conditioning and doing cardio - that said, i'm usually exhausted at the end of my sessions, and i can't spend much more than an hour exercising per day anyways. what personal routines do you guys have? how do you split your time to make sure your off-ice training is the most efficient and effective as possible?

Off ice cardio, etc on days we weren't training on ice. On ice days some of the only off ice we did was dance, barre, pilates, dynamic and static stretching (which you do to warm up anyway before going on ice).
 
I lift three days a week (alternating upper and lower body). I do some form of cardio daily (except on rest days) but usually nothing too intense. I just find making sure I'm doing some long distance sort of cardio helps because I don't get that from running programs. It enhances heart strength in ways you wouldn't really think it would. By "long distance" I really just mean 20 minutes lol. 3 other days are abs, stability, and physical therapy. I have everything off on Saturday and I skate every day but Saturday.

I work on artistry and off ice programs and stuff when I need to (basically, whenever I see a flaw that needs to be fixed) but I don't really have a set schedule. I also do mobility stuff daily and do full on stretching twice a week.

I do my off ice jumps in my warm up. I don't really see it as necessary to do them for half an hour or so. Keep in mind I am a competitive figure skater attempting to go pro. The average skater does not do this much off ice after their sessions.

I wish I could organize this better for you haha. How many hours are you skating?

Also.. how are you working on double axel without a secure backspin??? You should probably work on that. A level 4 flying spin is worth more than a double axel.

Thank you so much! You did a really good job explaining and it wasn’t confusing/convoluted at all. Seeing other people’s schedules is super interesting, especially someone who works as hard as you :) The amount of off ice and ice time are very connected haha. Getting ice is extremely hard for me right now so I’m averaging about 4 hours a week - the off ice is kind of a way to make up for that or at least make it so the ice time I do get is much more efficient.

The backspin thing is pretty recent (i.e. it was secure). My on ice elements aren’t exactly parallel to my off ice because of the issues I mentioned above, and the focus for me with off ice jumps is much more on strength and technique than “what can I immediately transfer to the ice”. (also worth noting: it is much more adjacent to an overrotated single than a real double, lol.) So don’t worry, I definitely am not going for any real 2a without a backspin I’m happy with 😂 And good luck with your training! You definitely seem like you have the work ethic to achieve any pro goals you may have. Keep at it!
