Best Quality, Biggest Flaw

Honest question, could be that they selected Candyman just because the music, with out understanding the lyrics?

As Nina Mozer (or Elton John) has already sung a few times to T&M after this season, '' Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Words'', for the just plain wrong program and those God awful outfits. Free the Bumblebee!

May they never, ever, have a repeat!

I could believe Evgenia maybe didn't understand it (though I'm sure she does now!), but Vladimir's English is too good. And Robin Szolkowy surely knows.

That does make an amusing hypothetical, though. Maybe backstage at the Olympics: "Excuse me, Morgan Cipres and Bruno Massot, you know French words in our program? We cannot spell them to type in Google and we keep forgetting to ask until now. What they mean?"

Sorry, this is one I must do...

Yulia Lipnitskaya
BQ: her flexibility, her spins, her costumes, her huge heart, her decisiveness and smarts, her performance factor/emoting
BF: Literally nothing

I think a true fan is able to see the flaws in their skater, as much as their quality, no matter how much they love them. Like tiny jumps, or disconnect from the music.

Max Aaron:
BQ: incredible jumps and huge heart, tough, gutsy competitor
BF: spin positions often look laboured and difficult, prone to stone-face under pressure

Jason Brown:
BQ: brilliant skating skills and performance quality, musicality, spins, footwork, nice springy jumps
BF: tendency to stalk difficult jumps (3A is most obvious), dubious Lutz edge (should be called ! more often than it is)

Joshua Farris
BQ: perfect, textbook-quality jumps, outstanding musicality, lovely spins, footwork
BF: often skates rather "inwardly" and doesn't always project, is more fragile than a glass

Patrick Chan

BQ: textbook gorgeous big coverage jumps (especially 4t-3t but also 3a) fabulous skating skills, classic spin positions, very well centered, high quality throughout the entire program, expresses music from the blade to the fingertips, has shown versatility with music choices and produced a large body of fabulous programs from warhorse times to modern and more personal recent style.

BF : figured out too late he needed a sports psychologist.... self-doubter.... and has a girlfriend.. :(

My beloved Satoko: Best qualities: Incredible musicality, beautiful footwork, elegance and class.
BF: Her tiny, under rotated jumps.

so true!!!
I love Satoko too, but one has to admit her jumps are no good. Everything else is on point though!

I will not have you say one bad word about the Latter Years Liz Taylor mumu! It's iconic!

;)

Liza Tuk:
BQ: textbook jump technique, sassy style.
BF: Bad choices of music and choregraphy

Maria:

BQ: Elegance, good distance on jumps, minimal prerotation
BF: tano, slow rotation speed resulting in underrotations.

Alina:

Doing this for my current faves.

Yuzuru Hanyu

Boyang Jin

Patrick Chan
BQ: Edgesss
BF: 3A

Wakaba Higuchi
BQ: Jumps
BF: bombs randomly

Satoko Miyahara
BQ: Intepretation & flow
BF: [see Shoma]

Sui/Han
BQ: being equally good skaters, tech
BF: Sui's ankles :sad4:

Savchenko/Massot
BQ: huge twist & just so good
BF: huge disparity in SS between Aljona & Bruno

- don't watch much ice dance

Fernandez:
BQ: charisma and interpretation; very entertaining to watch and looks like he's actually having fun; positive attitude
BF: sometimes relies on a comedic shtick and his tech has had questionable layouts in the past; he also hasn't attempted to add to his tech content which makes him rely on others' mistakes to win; lip; doesn't have anyone nationally pushing him to up his game

Hanyu:
BQ: textbook elements and maximizing his layout, good confidence, projection and skating skills; best transitions
BF: he can cave to pressure and is excessively hard on himself when he does; arms could be less lax throughout his performances - sometimes he looks too relaxed and casual

Uno:
BQ: artistry and ability to pick up nuances in the music, good consistency too and always appears calm and takes his time; hands especially are detailed and expressive; lovely edges
BF: technique issues on some jumps and his landings can be visibly a fight if he's not on

Chen:
BQ: unparalleled jumping ability which means big scores when he is on (which is more often than not); he also has an unconventional style and swagger that differentiates his skating
BF: needs more transitional movements - he is capable of even more; sometimes his projection and interpretation is good, other times he's focused on the jumps; can be a bit business like which compromises artistry; quad versatility leads to various layouts and he should maybe be focusing on one

Kolyada:
BQ: great posture and lines, quite expressive in terms of body movements especially for a male Russian skater - and not in a contrived way; when his jump elements are on they're some of the best in the bunch
BF: consistency; there is also something stoic about him and I wish he would be less business like and more expressive in the face

Jin:
BQ: youthful charisma and exuberance; excellent quad lutz and also has a solid arsenal of quads; great attitude
BF: his skating is still stiff and unrefined, and his jumps are not as seamless in the choreography as others: spins could be better; programs are a bit tacky/cheesy which I enjoy but judges might not

Chan:
BQ: best skating skills and overall expressiveness; great attention to detail and musicality; speed and footwork and edges are so impressive
BF: inconsistency and relatively low difficulty (although good on him for getting the 4S for a while); spins could be more creative; 3A; lapses of focus on easy elements

Bychenko:
BQ: good competitor and knows how to entertain a crowd
BF: nothing particularly unique about him and his skating skills are just okay

Brown:
BQ: always gives a great performance and charms/captivates an audience; arguably the most intricate choreo from a body movements and footwork standpoint; best spins out there, great flexibility; one of a kind skater who stands out
BF: terribly low jump difficulty given the standard there is today which holds him back from the top of the podium; sometimes the choreography is too overworked/ambitious and could use more subtlety
