Best Quality, Biggest Flaw

Whatda??? I think you forget to mention her missing Lutz in the SP and only the double in the LP. Yes, I too was mesmerized by ''Ne me quitter pas'', but c'mon, ...she did not have the most technical difficult jumps or combos overall, and had the 18th best BV result of the competition. So technically the cleanest, was it?

I include that in her "inconsistency", yes. It's sad she can't often deliver. But even here, IMO, she not only had the best SS, but also had the best jump technique, in terms of take-off, and the way she can create rotation when she hits, and her landings with her extension are pure gold.

Oh, I don't mean to say she didn't make mistakes. Just that her basic technique is the cleanest of them all.

Not to take away from people who hit their content out of the park without melting down, of course.

When one does not do the scheduled program, it can be easy to be technique clean, albeit with 2 pops and a fall.

Her basic technique won't change on jumps, though. The pops and falls were definitely bad, and no one is taking away from that.

I’ll do my biggest qualities and flaws on Alina and Zhenya:

Alina Zagitova

BQ: everything lolol her jumps, spins, timing with the music especially in Don Q, stamina and technical ability especially for her age [emoji7]

BF: idk lol but lots of people are saying she skates like a Junior and doesn’t have good musicality...well she has just come out of juniors and I think her musicality is really good especially in her Don Quixote. Ok I’ll stop now or else I will write an essay lmao

Evgenia Medvedeva:

BQ: consistency, ability to tell a story, some jumps (not 3lz or tano ones)

BF: FLUTZ FLUTZ FLUTZY FLUTZ!!! Helicopter tano, some muscled jumps, and her storytelling/interpretation can get a bit OTT sometimes. She also tends to travel in her spins at the end of her program sometimes. I love Evgenia but she needs to try fix her flutz and stuff lol

So, had to think a little, because the title doesn't have plurals in it, and didn't want to cheat!

From this season, here are our Olympic medalists!

Zagitova

BQ: Natural charm -- look at her after she finishes all her jumps in Don Quixote. Can't fake that.
BF: Immaturity in motion -- aka rushing steps.

Medvedeva

BQ: Mental strength -- the facial expression at the beginning of her Chopin SP at Olympic Teams says it all.
BF: Technical regress/stagnation -- or very minor improvements.

Osmond

BQ: Miracle Rally -- she really got it together for those podium finishes towards the end of the season.
BF: Range -- mispackaged as the Swan this season.

Carolina Kostner
BQ: Interpretation, elegant lines despite her height
BF: Jumping technique, don't actually think her facial expressions always align with the message of the music (pet peeve)
I think it's more lack of consistency, as chopinskate wrote, not basic jumping technique with Kostner. When she does her jumps (even lutz), the air position, landing edge and position are all great. She has never been accused of lips or flutzes, as far as I remeber, and her jumps are rarely underrotated when she actually does them.

I am not sure about technical regress or even stagnation. Yes, her jumps have become more muscled, but she has been doing more difficult jump combinations in training than she does at competitions, and she also started doing all her jumps in the second half of the FS, but her injury put a stop to it. Probably she would have included some more difficult combination in her program later in the season if not for the injury.

Her toe-jumps are still not done with the best technique. The -3T is less cheated, but still very bad. Her technique on combos looks worse -- she waits for too long before tagging her -3Ts. Her 2A technique is still bad.

I think it's not just about jumps, though. The way she has created her movement across ice has never changed. She still uses her arms and legs and upper body to create movement to almost drag herself across ice, instead of learning to naturally flow, use her knees, her core. It is just weird. Her edges aren't due to some great skill in the knee or the ankles, but rather they look like they come from the way she swings her free leg during her step sequences, to me. In fact, I haven't checked her previous performances to compare, but I won't be shocked if she's a little slower now than in 2016. She's grown, but her creating the movement hasn't changed, so it might have affected her speed.

Actually Med's knee bend is better than before. Her skating might not be the no.1 in term of SS but they're not laboured as people think. I saw her live in practice and many fancams. She still has a long way to improve but basically she is not average. And suprisingly, Med is faster than before.

I wouldn't classify her display as "poor" in any single performance, but this hasn't changed all that much since she stepped into seniors, to my eyes. She does have good control when she tries, for sure.

Can you judge the effort she puts into gaining speed now?
