Hello all, I need some advice and suggestions on blades for my 12 years old daughter.
Shes about 160CM tall and weight about 37kg.
Shes been on the legacy 8 for years when she started to learn her axel, and we are about time to change her boots(bigger) and needed a new blades due to sizing as well.

Shes been landing consistently on all her doubles(except 2A) and doing her double combos, mainly 2Lo and 2S combos.

Shes currently on Chorus because came back from injuries, she was in Edea Symphony before and she loved it therefore we are changing back to Symphony this time, and also
She would like to upgrade her blades, she’s more a jumper than a spinner😅 she would like to keep a similar profile to her legacy 8 but onto a more advanced blades that could assist her landings with more stability.

I’m currently looking into Pattern 99, also open to any other suggestions that might be a better fit than the P99.

Because I just do not wanted to over blade her and affect her current progress as well.

She had injured herself 3 times before(not on ice) and came back on ice 3 times and be able to make the progress, just being very careful changing her blades/boots this time.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Does she prefer an 8' rocker and is that why you're looking at Pattern 99s? The Gold Seal is also an 8' rocker. My pairs partner uses those and finds they work equally well for jumping and spinning. I prefer 7' rockers myself, so I don't know much about the feel of an 8'.

Yes Diana, since shes been on 8’ rockers since day 1, therefore she prefer not to change her rocker profile, but not sure if P99s is what she needs therefore seeking for more options and opinions here

Hi and welcome! I would suggest standard versions the P99 to her or the MK Phantom.
The thing she would have to get used to with the Phantom is it's 7ft instead of 8ft rocker.

Thank you for your advice and may i know whats the difference between the phantom? Ive heard of it too and im also looking into the JW GS99 hybrid…not too much information about this since not many of our club skaters are using it

Don't get the hybrid. The difference with the phantom is the rocker is 7ft instead of 8ft as she's used to (I mentioned this in my last post).
The P99 is what I wear (I used to wear the Phantom as well and liked them). It (P99) has a lower stanchion height, a tapered drag pick and it's a parallel blade with straight cut toepicks.

The Phantom has a 7ft rocker, is sidehoned and tapered, which basically help her with being able to do her turns and edges easier. It has cross-cut toepicks and a larger top pick that helps with toe-spotting on jumps.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the info.
I’ll talk with my daughter and see how she feels! Thank you!

The biggest difference for her when moving to JW/MK blades is the heel lift that affects how the the blade is balanced overall (and how "flat" it feels), not the nominal rocker radius. Staying on Jackson/Ultima blades might be safer, but the time to get to an "advanced" blade and settle with it has definitely come, so trying other options can be worth it. Ultima blades feel "flat" because they have flat profiles that are compensated with high heel lifts, which balances the blades more towards the heel (opposite to what happens when the heel lift is added to the boots), which makes the flat profile "work".

From JW, Pattern 99 will be a less drastic change (has some heel lift similar to Ultimas, but not as much, so it doesn't feel quite as "flat" but closer) than, say, Gold Seal. But it's not necessarily the better choice. Phantom is a wild card, but if it's jumps she wants to develop (probably yes) then I would try Gold Seal first (neutral balance point will be more forward, and she will feel like she has more blade to work with, especially good for edge jumps like Sal). If she hates it, try P99. If that's a no-no, then either Phantom or just any high end Ultima (Supreme probably being the best) remain the most viable options.

That's my 2 cents. Good luck!

Thank you for your information and it does help a lot understanding it as well.
Hopefully it won’t be too much of a tough ride for her changing🙏🏻🙏🏻

The Pattern 99 does not have a defined sweet spot. I'm currently using Pattern 99-profile Paramounts and hate them because it's REALLY hard for me to center spins on them. I'm sure with perfected technique it's possible - many make them work, but if she's already not a big fan of spins this blade won't help. My maximum spin revolutions has been cut by more than half, and that's a best case scenario in the rare instances that I can actually find a reasonable center - usually it's further halved again due to the traveling. It is super-frustrating to me, and I'm looking forward to replacements (I'm returning to MK Gold Star). The Pattern 99 has a flatter intermediate section (around 27') as compared to the Legacy 8. I strongly prefer a more pronounced spin rocker which makes it easier to find and hold the centering point. The JW Pattern 99 also has lower stanchions than most blades, which limits how deep of edges that can be held, as the sides of the sole will contact the ice sooner. Neither of these blades is really appropriate for her level — both the Pattern 99 and Legacy 8 are intermediate blades designed for singles through early doubles at most.

A pattern 99 profile Paramount is not the exact same thing as the actual Pattern 99 blade. I also previously stated all the ins and outs of the Pattern 99 blade including the lower stanchion height.

The only other unmentioned blade I would suggest for OP's daughter would be the Ultima Apex Advanced blade with the Elite toepick pattern, and second choice for pick would be supreme pick pattern.
