Hello! You have all been so kind and lovely with my own skate question and now I have a question about whether toddler skates can be too soft.

My 2.5 year old weighs a little under 30 lbs and really wants to start taking ice skating lessons. She’s too young for LTS at my rink which starts at age 4 but one of the coaches has seen her skate at public skate several times and told me she may be ready for some fun, low stress private lessons until she ages into LTS.

I was just going to use rentals until she got older (they have her size, toddler 8), but the coach says I should really try to get her some real skates to give her a fair shot at enjoying the lessons. So my question is do I need to worry about stiffness? I imagine Jackson Softskate or Softtec are okay right? Should I still avoid Lake Placid and American Athletic and brands like that? I’ve learned from all of you (and especially IceRabbit who was so helpful) stiffness is important for an adult but she’s small and light. Any recommendations especially with specific brands would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

My granddaughters are starting out in a pair of Jackson Finesse skates which have just been handed down to their third little wearer, each of them small and light for a 2-3-year-old. I don't know what the stiffness level is, but they're holding up well for the short time each wee one wears a size 8 (which I think is the smallest size Jacksons come in).

Hello again! Thank you for the compliment. :)

For your little one, Jackson Ascend Series Artiste skate may work. You could try the Risport Venus. Riedell Ruby. Edea Tempo

Good luck!
