Has Poor Brent found his skates yet?????????????? Even though I'm a D/W fan, I love this team very much, and I have to say their african tribal dance is soooo good!

Wha-wha-what?! he cant find his skates? Ugh!! I hope this doesnt affect them. Im hoping for a good showing for Kimberly & Brent WITHOUT drama:p

I wish them the best of luck.

I hope he finds his skates.

I hate their African Tribal Dance. I'm not African or African American but I find the whole program - especially their costumes - to be absolutely ignorant and racist. I was really shocked when I saw that crap live in Reading, PA.

However, I love their FD. Beautiful music and expression.

I don't see how their OD is racist. Are white people not allowed to do African dance? Their costumes are a little weird.
I didn't see much African dance in their OD anyways, and I have studied Afican dance. African dance dosn't really translate to the ice, it's hard to be grounded on skates. I don't think that they really showed African dance with their OD, but I don't see hown it's ignorent and racist.

IMO, their costumes were more appropriate for a Tarzan program than "African tribal dance," which of course it was not. And that's the main problem. They should not be dressed like that. But besides that, the movements are off and do not remotely resemble actual ethnic dance. And yes I do consider that to be racist or at least offensive because it's tactess and inappropriate, it almost seems mocking... If I was from an actual African tribe that they're "trying to emulate," I would be outraged.

FYI.....they made that program with and African Dance Instructor. THey took African Dance classes and everything. And this is information that was told to me by Kim's mother.
Whether they actually looked like they were doing an African Dance or not...at least they tried to do something other then a Russian folk dance. While it might not be the best or most original program out there......I would hardly call is racist. Would you call the Chinese pair team who skated to the Hava Negila (spelling) anti semetic or anti Jewish? Just curious.

IMO they don't even really look like their trying to emulate African dance. They can call it whatever they want, it don't change what it is. I see very little if any African influence in their choreo. Ralph/Hill from Canada also did an African trible OD this year, with a similar result, but no one has called their interpretation racist. The dance might be tastless, but be careful when accusing people of racsim, it's a sensitive subject and tend to backfire on the accuser.
The dance itself is not bad, just not very African, but as I said previously, it's not an easy stlye to translate to the ice because it requires the dancer to have less control than is nessisary to remain upright on ice. It's much less ridged than skating is.

I feel like the costumes are offensive, yes. Like I said, it was Tarzan with yellow and blue glitter and looked very silly. And I don't really have a problem calling it racist. My friend agreed and he is originally from Africa (Zimbabwe).

racist...or just tacky?

it would be like me complaining on tomas verner's stupid costume- he blemished traditional chinese clothing with rhinestones....?

plus i doubt they were trying to imply something...

just pass over it and call it misinterpretation and laugh. (cool rotational lift though)

The ones he was going to break-in after Worlds. One of his fans from Philly brought them with her when she flew over.

Poor guy :frown: that sucks to have to break new skates in at Worlds. Eesh. Hopefully it doesnt affect them in competition

I don't think their OD is racist or bad or anything - in fact I think it's a great program and it's a radical departure from their laid back style.

Shot of Kim and Brent backstage from ESPN360; they're in hair and make-up but not in costume. I do wonder what he's going to wear; a tango outfit's easier to get than an African folk dance outfit!
