My daughter just turned 10 and is about 65 lbs. She has narrow feet - orient foot shape and narrow heels.

I am ready to pull my hair out with all of the boot problems we have been through.

She has a consistent axel and has landed her double salchow. She is working on landing her double toe, double loop and double flip clean and consistent. She skates 6-8 hours per week

She is currently in Riedell Motion for 1.5 months - coming off of Riedell Stride for 3 months.

She’s a size 1 narrow junior. In both boots, her laces would come loose the minute she would start doing flip jumps or lutz jump, resulting in her foot not feeling secure. We are now taping around the tops of brand new motions - which were fine for her when she initially bought them. The skates are noticeably wider at the top than when we first bought them.

She has a narrow heel and skinny ankle and she is thin but also has very strong legs. She was originally in Jackson Elle but we dealt with some serious heel slipping issues. She is starting to complain of heel slippage in the Riedell motion size 1 narrow and her foot feels like it is moving side to side? I don’t skate so I don’t know what she means.

Are we in the wrong boot or is she just being dramatic? I really don’t know what to believe anymore.

Hi and welcome. Sorry to hear that your daughter is experiencing so many issues. Yes, it's more than likely your boot. Look at the Royal Pro from Risport and if she needs something stiffer, the Royal Prime. At her height and weight and doing doubles, she should be ok in the Royal Pro for now.
Also, have her look at Edea Chorus or Concerto.

Both these brands or lines of boots are more narrow and will fit her better. If she has strong legs then do the higher boot for her of my suggestions: Risport Royal Prime or Edea Concerto.

Good luck!

I also have narrow heels and thin feet generally, and Risports work for me. If I said "heel slippage" I'd mean my heel was rising and falling within the boot and would mean too much room over the foot, around the instep and ankle, but your daughter may be using a different definition. It's a worrying feeling, so I don't think she's being overly dramatic. I have very high arches, so Risports are a snug fit for me. I've never worn Edeas, but Ic3Rabbit is familiar with a wider range of boot brands than I have, so I'd say try her suggestions. Good luck!

It's crucial that the heel fit snugly as-is. If the ball area of her foot is somewhat wider than her heel, then it might be possible to punch out the ball area. But if the ball area of her foot is substantially wider than her heel, then she might need a split-width boot (width size of the heel less than width size of ball area). Have the fitter measure her feet carefully, and, when evaluating different boot models, discuss how much punching out can be done and the availability of split-width options: both of these vary substantially with different manufacturers and even with different models within a single manufacturer's line.

Narrow feet with a strong skating schedule can be a tricky combo. It honestly sounds like the boot shape just isn’t matching her foot shape, especially if there’s side-to-side movement and heel slipping even in a narrow size. You might want to look into Edea or Harlick, some parents with similar issues had good luck there. Also, a proper fitting with a boot specialist (especially someone who understands narrow heels) can make a world of difference.
