Hello! I’m interested in getting input on new skates for my daughter. Some background:
  • She’s 16, 166 cm, 63 kg
  • Working on single jumps (loop, flip, lutz) and layback, camel, backspins
  • Wearing Jackson Freestyle, size 7 regular width
  • They were great initially, but for the last couple of months, she’s complained about her feet hurting and bunions on her larger foot; she frequently reties her laces because they always feel loose, especially in the heel
  • Her coach says they aren’t broken down yet; they’re about a year old
  • Foot shape is Orient; high arches
Our local rink only stocks Jackson (and has to order anything higher than Freestyle), so I’m considering a trip to get her fitted. Her coaches suggested Riedell, which is what they wear, and she’s drawn to Edea due to aesthetics. After lurking here a bit, I’m thinking Risport may also be an option?

Any suggestions on boots/blades, as well shops on the West Coast (either CA or WA) that are likely to have inventory to try on, would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome. You daughter should be okay to look at Risport Royal line (Royal Pro I'm thinking), Edea (Chorus or Concerto), and Graf (Richmond Special or Galaxy).

She's going to need a blade. What is she currently using?

Thanks for responding. She's using the blade that came with the Freestyle (Aspire?).

I think she mentioned wanting a Coronation Ace and a certain measurement, which I didn't understand.

Coronation Ace would be a good blade for her. The measurement of the blade is the size she needs to fit her new boot. The fitter can determine that. I'll send you a DM about a fitter.
