Dance Gold - USA or France?

Wow, bizarre! Oh well, as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But I hope you mean you find their skating unattractive...

I think they are both lovely and VERY attractive.

Their skating, yes, I find it unattractive. Meryl does not point her toe, or extend her free leg nicely, it looks rather ugly to me (but I grew up in ballet, so I appreciate that kind of thing most in skaters). And Charlie sometimes looks too frantic, that also is not appealling to me. Also, their leg lines do not match up, which can be distracting if they are not moving in exact unison.

As for their actual physical appearances... I would not call them ugly, but neither of them is particularly attractive to me, either. Just average, I guess.

Pechalat/Borzat - without a doubt.

I disagree....I saw both their OD and FD for this year, and I have to say it's a huge step back from last year, just as D/W's programs from last year were a step back from their awesome debut season (2007). There's nothing cool about that circus FD they put together. It's just rehashing of old elements, and messy at best.

Agree with this. I saw them, too, and definitely not impressed especially with the FD. The music is positively juvenile. And the costumes were...ugh.

There certainly is some doubt that P/B can win over D/W...a lot, actually. The only wrinkle in all this is we haven't heard a peep about D/W's dances or seen any little part of it. So that's a question yet. I, of course, have complete faith in them!

You know, I think you coud be correct. I haven't seen anything of this year's routines, so I can't say anything positive. I had been thinking of V&M for this but that's not going to happen.

Based on last year's skate though, P/B were very special in my evaluation of them.

As to rehashing old routines, don't they all? Carmen, Tosca, Polovitzian Dances are all skated in the same mode. Why not do Firebird?

Thanks Joe...I actually like Pechelat and Bourzat, and I actually didnt' agree with the judging last year at Worlds, where their FD was deemed inferior to D/W's (I wasn't particularly fond of their Eleanor Rigby, and kept wondering how they got away with having so many "open" moments as the Brits called it, and such simple choreography). I actually enjoyed P/B's organ donor FD from last year...But I don't think their FD this year cuts it. But who knows, I only saw the clip on youtube, and maybe it looks better on a bigger screen....

That was my conflict as well. The open parts of D/W's FD worked for the concept I suppose, but I was surprised they moved ahead of P/B, who skated wonderfully to a more complex program. That's part of why I liked the earlier Eleanor Rigby, it had more complex choreography and I think with some tweaking and more training time it could have been quite good. But that's just me.

After a second and third viewing of P/B's FD awhile back, I realized that it indeed does not play to their strengths. It doesn't show off their polish, which was their advantage last season.

I can't wait until Friday. I will be here, on Halloween, not doing anything crazy but watching the CD and all the other disciplines obsessively. I'll provide my own candy, and still celebrate the day = D

D/W always show to be improving and never stopping. they are technically intense. and creatively- they began last year with their mature innovation.
i cant wait to see their programs. FD....serious? classical? stupid? funny? soundtrack? cheesy techno beat orchestral?

P/B - their program...is typical P/B -humorous yet serious....technically- yes they have improved greatly- footwork is mega-smooth- but their weak spots aka spins are....just...weak. innovation is too good - they have unique lifts (piggy-back and their 3 part combo to their upsidedown thing.) and movement/choreo across the ice. music this season is cute-sy, costumes- they are jsut obsessed with sleeves

i say it will be super close. i have no clue what D/W are up to so can't tell.....(my heart leans towards D/W secretly)

I liked their Eleanor Rigby a lot.

I know less about the pairs side of skating, though.

Looks like D&W improved in their CD a lot, defeating P&B. With P&B's clown FD, looks like D&W will win all three phases.

Yes! I knew it! I'm so glad they're finally making strides this year!!!

D/W have been lovely in both segments so far. I actually thought both D/W and P/B were underscored in the CD (could that be because they are "2nd teams"?) but D/W took away with the lead after the OD, and they weren't even completely clean! Still, this is a great OD for them; it suits them so well and I love how they've really developed a bit of flair. I was still heartbroken for P/B, they were lovely until the errors!

D/W were wonderful...this OD is going to be great for them this season. P/B sure lost ground with that. I thought it was pretty good but I don't know...D/W just look like they really improved and P/B still look kinda the same to me. I think P/B will be lucky to hang on to the silver.

And yes, they were both underscored in the CD.
