Just to counterbalance the love for Deanna (which I share ) I LOVE MAXIME !!! :)

They were impressive this week at Nebelhorn ! Bravo for winning the event ! First international medal for these two, and a gold !
I would say they are the front runners to win Canadian Nationals this year.

Dang, how did we let her get away! :drama: Congratulations to Deanna and Maxime. Nicely done! I've always loved her skating and envisioned her paired up with Danny O'Shea, especially since they were both coached by Mr. Peterson and his Florida team. Oh well, our loss is Canada's gain. Looking forward to seeing her and Maxime at Sk Amer.

^^ LOL. Surely, that's just a rhetorical question.

I'm sure U.S. fed did not want to lose Deanna. But feds predetermining and managing the trajectory of careers in skating is practically impossible with the way the sport is structured competitively. None of Deanna's U.S. fans wanted to see her leave either, but I'm certainly very happy for her knowing her own mind and for being determined to find a new partner and achieve her career goals in skating, especially after being away from the sport for so long and coming back unexpectedly and so successfully. Deanna is amazing and incredible. 😍❤️‍🔥

The situation in the U.S. for pairs a few years ago was top-heavy with talent. Who could have predicted all of the recent splits and retirements which have opened up new opportunities in the U.S. That's just unfortunately the way this sport rolls. Deanna got tired of coming in third and fourth at U.S. Nationals. She had high ambitions, and kudos to her for not settling.

As well, Deanna's former U.S. partner, Nate B, was injured and he needed surgery, so they split, and Deanna set out for new horizons north-of-the-border. I'm happy for Deanna and Maxime that they found each other. Nate is still skating too, now with Katie McBeath, so all's well that ends well! Deanna & Maxime are so well-suited both physically and aesthetically. They've kept their eyes on the prize and have continued to work hard, even when Deanna wasn't being fully appreciated by Canadian fans and commentators. D&M's hard work is paying off.

Is Ian Connolly still their head coach, or have they switched to Josee Picard full-time?

I haven't heard any Canadian fans nor commentators expressing anything but respect and admiration for Deanna. If you say something like this, please back it up with links or refer to verifiable sources. Thanks.
Their ISU bios lists Josée as their only coach (with Julie M as choreo)... which is a bit surprising to me as I thought she was heading to retirement. Josée Picard has been at it for as long as I have followed Canadian pairs (Brasseur-Eisler).

In my heart, they won. I'm so impressed with their growth! And not because of their age, just objectively they went through massive improvement since they started skating together and I love it!:love::love: Huge congrats! :hap10: Hope with silver here they will be able to qualify for GPF, they deserve it ^^

Deanna and Maxime are really something else. A great concept of a FS including a different death spiral from everybody else. While their SP isn't to sneeze at either. They are great. I am really hoping for them to win their Nationals!

This was what Deanna said about citizenship, which I thought was interesting, they also considered the US

Deanna said:

I called my contacts [in the U.S.] and asked how long it would take for a Canadian citizen to get American citizenship. They said, impossible by 2022, and highly unlikely by 2026. Max has some contacts in Canada, and he did the same. They said, highly unlikely by 2022, but likely by 2026. That’s what made our decision of what country we were going to. The Olympics was the big goal. We both want to go to the Olympics. So that was the deciding factor; what country we could possibly get citizenship from in time.

Bravo on the gold from Grand Prix de France!
