+5 / -5 Grade Of Execution System

The Personal Best and Season Best scores that the ISU uses for a skater only take into consideration certain competitions. For example, they do not take into consideration domestic competitions, such as Sectional, Regional or National Championships.

The table below takes into consideration all the events that the skater has taken part in. These scores are referred to as “Absolute Personal Best” and “Absolute Season’s Best” so as to distinguish them from the scores recorded by the ISU.

Absolute Season’s Best Score

The Absolute designations are based purely on the contents of the Competitive History table in this post. If anybody knows of any scores that are not in the table, please let us know, and we will be only too happy to add them in.

Just letting you know that all the photos I was talking about did eventually get put together into a public post on the Skate Cyprus club's Facebook Page. They can be viewed in this post:

https://www.facebook.com/skatecyprus.org/posts/2179630792115071

Included at the end of this post is a nice group photo of most of the Junior and Senior skaters, as well as the Ice Dancers, with their trophies, medals and certificates. Here is the direct link:

As we look at them from left to right:

  • Ekaterina Luneva (1st Junior Ladies)
  • Diana Lekhtman and Nikita Vitryanyuk (1st Advanced Novice Ice Dance Guests)
  • Polina Ustinova (1st Senior Ladies)
  • Ilia Karankevich and Angelina Kudryavtseva (1st Advanced Novice Ice Dance)
  • Giorgia Isabella Sechi (3rd Junior Ladies)
  • Daniella Vanessa Ipsarides (Special Achievement Award)

All the best to them!

Barely 2 ½ months after Nationals, and the new season kicks off this week for Team Cyprus. :cheer:

After a very busy 2018–19 season, it looks like Angelina Kudryavtseva and Ilia Karankevich are going to continue in the same vein this season. The difference is that they have now moved up to Junior level.

This weekend, they will be competing in the NRW Summer Trophy in Dortmund. The Junior Ice Dance SD starts at approximately 17:10 CEST on Saturday 10th August, while the Junior Ice Dance FD starts at approximately 10:30 CEST on Sunday 11th August.

Then, two weeks later, they will be in Courchevel making their Junior Grand Prix debut. The Ice Dance SD starts at 14:15 CEST on Friday 23rd August, while the Ice Dance FD starts at 15:30 CEST on Saturday 24th August.

2019 Junior Ladies Bronze Medallist Giorgia Isabella Sechi will also be in Courchevel for her second ever Junior GP. The Ladies SP starts at 14:00 CEST on Thursday 22nd August, while the Ladies FS starts at 17:10 CEST on Friday 23rd August.

Two weeks after that, Angelina and Ilia will be making their second Junior GP appearance at the Riga Cup. The Ice Dance SD starts at 13:00 CEST on Friday 6th September, while the Ice Dance FD starts at 17:20 CEST on Saturday 7th September.

Joining them in Riga for what will be her Junior GP debut is the 2019 Junior Ladies Champion, Ekaterina Luneva. The Ladies SP starts at 13:00 CEST on Thursday 5th September, while the Ladies FS starts at 16:30 CEST on Friday 6th September.

Although I will be posting further updates, I would like to just take this opportunity to wish all the Cypriot skaters all the best in all their upcoming competitions.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST!!! :cheer:

Haabersti Cup: 13–16 February 2020

Over in Estonia, Ekaterina Luneva (2019 Cypriot Junior Ladies Champion) showed that she is the favourite to retain her National title with a very good showing at the Haabersti Cup. She finished 7th overall out of 19, having been 5th in the SP, and 8th in the FS.

Incidentally, Katia achieved the SP minimum TES for Junior Worlds at the Haabersti Cup. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have the FS minimum TES. Plus it happened a week after the deadline, so it wouldn’t have counted anyway.

But, it just shows that if she had entered some more competitions since her Junior GP (she only did the GP Of Bratislava in December), she could very well have been going to Tallinn in March to join her Leader team-mates Angelina and Ilia at Junior Worlds. :bang:

:cheer: WELL DONE!! :cheer:

As well as Daniella's birthday, there has been some other news from the Cypriot team in the past week.

The first news was confirmation that Angelina Kudriavtseva and Ilia Karankevich will be competing at Junior Worlds. This will be the first time that Cyprus has been represented at an ISU Major Championship. (The only other time Cyprus was represented at a figure skating Major was when Daniella competed at the 2017 EYOF. But that was a European Olympic Committee event rather than an ISU event).

In Ladies singles, a couple of the reigning Cypriot Champions were in action this week.

Sofia Trophy: 12–18 February 2020

Christiana Afxentiou (2019 Cypriot Advanced Novice Ladies Champion) made what I think is her Junior level debut at the Sofia Trophy in Bulgaria. She finished 26th overall, having been 27th out of 27 in the SP, and 26th out of 26 in the FS.

Tallink Hotels Cup: 13–16 February 2020

Meanwhile, over in Estonia, Ekaterina Luneva (2019 Cypriot Junior Ladies Champion) showed that she is the favourite to retain her National title with a very good showing at the Tallink Hotels Cup. She finished 7th overall out of 19, having been 5th in the SP, and 8th in the FS.

Finally, Nationals will be held 02–03 May 2020. This was actually announced a month ago, but I didn’t visit the CSF website until today.

Incidentally, the CSF website has been given a makeover, and is now completely in Greek. So, it looks like I will be relying on Google Translate from now on.

Apologies that I didn't get posting before skating started in The Hague, but my computer died again this week. Fortunately, this time I had everything I needed and knew what I was doing, so it only took 2 days to sort it, rather than the month that it took the last time.

The interesting thing is that Emilea is still on the Entry List for the Sofia Trophy. Looking at the timetables, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that she could do both competitions. The FS in the Challenge Cup is on Friday afternoon. And the SP at the Sofia Trophy isn't until Saturday evening.

Don't forget, back in 2015, Anastasia Galustyan, Aleksandra Golovkina and Angelīna Kučvaļska did both the EYOF in Austria and the European Championships in Sweden in a single week, with the FS of the EYOF the day before the SP of Europeans.

It's a big ask, though. Especially in these pandemic days when there are a lot less flights happening. However, there is a flight on Saturday morning leaving Amsterdam at 10:20 CET and arriving in Sofia at 14:00 EET... ;)

The thing that makes me think that Emilea will head to Sofia is that there are skaters from the Cypriot team competing there in the younger categories. The team could have a show of strength.

Ekaterina Luneva will be competing in Junior Ladies, while Stefania Yakovleva will be competing in Advanced Novice Ladies.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST TO ALL OF THEM!!! :cheer:

The SP Start Orders for the Sofia Trophy were put up yesterday afternoon, and Emilea has indeed withdrawn. Stefania and Katya are still entered (and, by sheer coincidence, are both the antepenultimate starter in their respective SP).

Here is the link for the livestreaming channel (link for the actual stream is not up yet):

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start at 13:30:00 EET (11:30:00 GMT / 14:30:00 MSK). So 6 hours from now.

Ekaterina Luneva will be the 28th skater to start. So, fourth skater to go in Group 3.

She is due to start at 17:14:30 EET (15:14:30 GMT). So, 9h 44m 30s from now.

Good News and Bad News from the Sofia Trophy.

The Good News is that Stefania put in a great performance in the Advanced Novice Ladies SP, and is lying third going into the FS, with a score of 33.83.

The Bad News is that Ekaterina Luneva withdrew from the Junior Ladies SP. 😞

Last month, we had a week with three birthdays in it. And it is happening again this month!

May's birthday week starts with Ekaterina Luneva's 17th birthday!!!

С Днем Рождения Екатерина!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

I hope she has had a really enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for her.

Unfortunately, we have not seen Katia in action since the start of the pandemic. Her scores from the last competition she did (the Tallink Hotels Cup in Estonia) were very encouraging, so I really hope that we will get to see her compete again internationally next season.

The Provisional Entry Lists for the second Junior Grand Prix in Courchevel were released yesterday, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Stefania on it. I thought she still had another year or two to wait until she was old enough for Juniors! :drama:

http://results.isu.org/events/jgpfra22021_JuniorWomen.htm

Ekaterina is down as the substitute if Stefania is not able to go.

CaroLiza_fan

Stefania will now be making her Junior GP debut at the penultimate round, the Baltic Cup.

From what I can tell from the Announcement PDF's fo the various Junior GP's, Cyprus was always down for a Ladies slot in Gdańsk. So, unless they are given an extra slot at the Cup Of Austria to make up for the missed Courchevel slot, that means we will not be seeing Ekaterina in a Junior GP this season. 😞

So, let's hope the ISU show some understanding.

CaroLiza_fan

With all the excitement that was happening last week, I never got the chance to post that the Provisional Entry Lists had been released for the last Junior Grand Prix, the Cup Of Austria, and there will be no Cypriot representation in Ladies after all.

Consequently, Stefania will have one Junior GP this season, and Ekaterina will have none. 😞

All because the French won't recognise vaccines that are not being used in France.

CaroLiza_fan

And after last month's week of many birthdays for Team Cyprus, it is time for this month's version.

To kick it off, today is Ekaterina Luneva's 16th birthday.

:cheer: С Днем Рождения Екатерина!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

I hope she is having a really enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for her, both on and off the ice.

I also hope that we get to see Katya skating this coming season. Because her 2021-22 season was ruined by circumstances that were beyond her control.

For those that don't remember, even though she was not even due to compete there, Katya was one of the biggest victims of the France vaccine fiasco. Cyprus had a slot at 2 Junior GP's, and 2 skaters that were eligible. Stefania was entered for Courchevel II, with Katya as substitute. And, presumably, it would have been the other way around at the Baltic Cup. This was messed up when both skaters were ruled out of Courchevel due to France not recognising the Russsian vaccine. However, whereas the ISU gave replacement slots to the affected skaters that were representing Russia, the same was not done for Cyprus.

Given that she had missed her Junior GP debut, you can understand why Stefania was given the nod for the Baltic Cup. But the unfortunate side-effect was that Katya not only missed out on competing in a Junior GP this season, but she also did not get the opportunity to get the minimums that she needed to be eligible for Junior Worlds. So, she couldn't even be put down as a substitute for it.

But, let's not dwell on that. That is all in the past. And now is the time to look to the future.

All the best for the coming year, Katya!

CaroLiza_fan

Between now and Sunday, three skaters who represented Cyprus are celebrating birthdays. And the first is a milestone birthday for Ekaterina Luneva.

:cheer: HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY KATYA!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

I hope you are having an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for you.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that we never got to see Katya reach her full potential on the ice. And she had so much potential. She started competing for Cyprus during the 2018-19 Season, and was immediately outscoring the older girls that were already competing in Juniors by a large margin.

With this in mind, it was hardly surprising that Katya made her Junior GP debut the following season. However, Cyprus only had two slots that season, and it was decided to split them between the impressive young prospect and one of the loyal skaters that had been on the team for years, but who would be aging out of Juniors at the end of the season. No doubt Katya was told that she would get both slots the following season when the older girls moved on.

Katya continued to impress during the 2019-20 Season. But then the pandemic hit. She competed in one of the last competitive skating events held before the lockdowns, and achieved new absolute PB scores in both segments and overall.

When skating resumed, Stefania was now age eligible for Juniors, and we saw both of their names appearing on entry lists. But, that was the only place we got to see Katya. She never skated in competition again.

Whatever she is doing now, I hope she is well.

And I hope she is enjoying her 21st birthday.
