Congratulations to Elena and Ruslan for making it to the GPF. In such company, there's no shame in placing last, which I expect will happen; but with the helter-skelter that's been this GP season (especially the GPs after China), anything is possible. I'll be happy if they skate their best at this point, and don't make mistakes.

Summer was hell, but stay away from russian forums today, it's more hell.They rehash things from four years ago ,try to excuse a certain skater and so on.

Russian forum? I wonder what are they talking about over there? They are not generally positive about I/Z?
 
Has anyone seen this video of I/Z's Carmen interwoven with the flamenco infused movie Carmen from 1983 and a dancer from el Templo del Flamenco, Granada? How appropriate since I/Z will get to perform their. Carmen in Barcelona!

I am so happy for Lena and Ruslan, so great to achieve the final in your first year together! I love how they skate with their hearts and a lot of passion. They have strong chemistry on the ice and it seems to be very obvious. I watched a "best of CoR" on German Eurosport and the commentator was speculating about the reasons of the split of i/K (Well to be honest I expect from a commentator to be a little bit informed about what's going on during summer etc.... But usually I like the German commentators) And at the end of the FD he said, that maybe love was the reason... so he really thought, that Lena and Ruslan are in love. Well, why not :o:

Lena and Ruslan are not a couple. Maybe the German commentator was referring to Nikita and Viktoria, because there a rumors they are a couple. Furthermore he wanted the split, not Elena.

Yes I know that they are not a couple. but I would not mind if they would be one :o: I was surprised that the commentator didn't know that Nikita was the one who wanted to split. I expect the commentators to be prepared for the new season and to know some facts. But maybe it is because he is also commentating for other sports and he had no time to prepare for everything. Usually he is with a figure Skating expert, but this one was not commenting on the "best of COR".

That's the best way to deal in these kind of pro. partnerships. Unless you are G&G or K&P. ;)
 
That's the big thing: Elena and Ruslan have a healthy, friendly relationship along with being a beautifully matched partnership. Yes, Elena and Nikita were "fire," but fire is unstable, and they risked implosion every time they stepped on the ice. The whole Elena-Nikita-Morozov situation sounded toxic, so I'm glad that team is totally dissolved. Lena and Ruslan are much better off together, as far as I'm concerned. And Nikita and poor Vika...well, I'll save it for the other thread.

- He doesn't think S/K were ever seen as the main hope of the federation, everyone started on an equal footing
- S/K could have had a slight advantage at CoR because they had the "veil of mystery" as no one in Russia had seen them when they were training together, and in theory they would look good, tall, blonde, blue eyes etc, and they would have been hoping to make an immediate splash. But it was a mistake for them to skip the test skates, they would have had more help with getting the levels on their elements. They still have potential, but it's hard after such a disappointing start.
- Very surprised by the level of support for I/Z at CoR - thinks it's partly because Elena was seen as the victim, but also because they are still based in Moscow, riding the subway etc every day, where as S/K have shut themselves off in the US
- National championships: Says you should listen to him because his predictions are usually right ;) Still sees B/S as the leaders. Then I/Z fighting for 2nd with M/K, and S/K and S/B contesting 4th and 5th place. He likes S/B much more than S/K particularly the free dance. When Nikita was with Elena her passion & fire reflected well on him - if there is some conflict in a partnership he thinks they skate much better - e.g. Grishuk/Platov were great, but when Platov skated with Fedorinova they were just pleasant & nothing more. There is no conflict in S/K, so they need to work harder for emotions & light and shade in their programs. He understands the program choices from Marina because they aren't yet ready to deal with a more emotionally complex theme.
- I/Z are also not completely a couple yet. They shouldn't be worrying about placement at the GPF, it would be an achievement to beat any of the other couples there, but he thinks they only demonstrated a fraction of what they can do in Moscow. Huge congratulations to Kustarova & Alexeeva - often overlooked after B/S and M/K moved to Zhulin, invested a lot in S/Z only to see their couple split, so it's great to see them getting a new team into the GPF in their first season together.

I'm so excited about I/Z. From all the new senior couples they stand out for me.
