I totally agree, these two are such a rare diamond,I'm glad they found each other, and actually Ruslan has this energy that some people didn't think he had.But even from TV, in the past he had it, I think he's a man with a great personality.He's the perfect match for Lena, to let her grow even more artistically

I'm actually quite glad they'll work with Ilia again - they know themselves better now, so they won't be making a generic whatever type program, he's capable of doing some really good work like Lipnitskaya's Shindlers List & Megapolis, Radionova's Frida & Z/G's Two From The Grave dance, and most importantly he obviously believes in I/Z, thinks they are the best in Russia & speaks up for them like no one else does. Plus it will be for the SD, so there's a defined style already and the ballroom specialists will have their say as well.
I'm interested to see what direction he goes in. I hope they don't do something somber, either something really upbeat and fun with the polka, or something more smooth and elegant with the march would be great. I'm not really a fan of the foxtrot option.
I/Z have more of an identity this year and some idea of their own of what direction they want to go, and it's not like Averbukh doesn't know how to choreograph. As long as the music is good, everything will be fine.

The theme is set, it's a waltz. They know each other better now and also Ilya knows them. They are also going to work with ballroom specialist, not to speak for Kustarova, so there will be many people involved. I'm okay with Ilya working with them. I like his work with Yulia and he doesn't have any excuse this season. I'm sure they have all learned from their first season.

I'm really glad if it's Iliya, I saw some strange comments elsewhere and I think people underestimate him.Firstly , he's ambitious he will do his best to top Najarro's work and then he spoke so highly of them. And the Waltz is predefined, it suits them, and I think that he was good at it anyway and as a skater. Plus the ballroom specialist will help, Ryabinina with the levels and he knows and cares for them which is equally important

As I'm one of those who liked heir FD last season I'm happy that he'll choreograph the short for next season. And as the video shows, he should be up to the challenge.

This :thumbsup: Based on the previous post he really does have a great feel for the R. Waltz., impressive. I'm cool. I'm just curious as to what other movement they'll pair it with; foxtrot, etc.

He was really good as a skater, yes. He also did a lot of choreo in his TV show "Ice Age"? There must be a waltz somewhere.

This video was posted only a couple of days ago, I found it when I was watching Ravensburger Waltzes for new season prep.
I think he will do great getting a waltz together. He's worked with them now for a season and has probably gotten a better sense of Ruslena as a team now. As far as their free dance went I just didn't feel like it was a good vehicle for them, not that is was a bad program, it wasn't. It just wasn't them. I think he will capture them. He has been behind them all the way. I see great things for this team!
I'm still trying to put my Shanghai impressions in black and white and I went through IZ's free dance at the Worlds (for the first time) and then I watched their FD at CoR. I think Ilia did great job with choreography for a new pair, it was simple but yet lovely. The later version of the dance became too complicated and therefore lost its easiness and loveliness. I can understand the reasons for these changes but they were no way Ilia's fault. I doubt there were a person who could do better for a team that had been skating together for just a few weeks and hadn't even been officially approved by that time.

:thumbsup: The problem was they outgrew the dance after a couple of performances, so they tried to make it harder & more impressive, but tinkering with choreography rarely works. Even so & for all it's faults, the lightness & softness that the Appassionata part had was beautiful & would be perfect if they can capture it again for a waltz.

Its times like these that I miss the non touching step sequence, it would have been great with the polka...well let's hope for great things nonetheless.
