Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Ah so it's basically any waltz written by a Russian or Soviet composer?
I would say that Russian Waltzes are melancholic and when you compare them to f.e. Viennese Waltzes they're played differently.
Viennese waltzes anticipate the 2nd beat, whereas Russian waltzes don't. The Viennese Waltz has a "swing" to it that the Russian Waltzes don't have.

@Alba
Yes, I also hope that they won't do a Russian Waltz this season. I know that I thought that the "Dark History Waltz" could be a great for them (I don't think you can consider it to be a Russian Waltz, but the mood is melancholic), but I changed my mind. They'll have a dramatic FP, so the SP should be lighter.

@Abraxis12345: You know very well, at least I hope so, what is meant by "Russian Waltz", or music. Arguing just for a sake of it it's a "sport" I do not like. Thanks.

That's my main reason also. Besides, I think a light and elegant waltz would suit them and their SS so well.

Yeah, I have noticed. Especially one particular forum that sometimes leaves me speechless about how much free time some people must have:laugh2:

I'm a bit worried about the GP assignments only because I think it might not be a good idea for them to face current medalists in their home countries during the GP events. I do hope they'll get COR, both audience-wise and status-wise, and I was as glad as anyone on this thread that they got an invitation to compete at Saransk.

Same here, lol! I think it's such a great idea to have fan threads for skaters here, so that those who support someone else and (incomprehendingly to me) hate their favorites' main rivals can't come here and start inventing reasons why the skater whose thread it is isn't as wonderful as his fans think. Or just people with psychiatric issues who understandably have too much free time on their hands and who think it great entertainment to choose a skater with lots of fans and start posting some junk comments about them; in the past such people had to content themselves with making up and spreading gossip in the neighborhood or spray-painting offensive graffiti on public property, but now the invention of the Internet has given them a much wider audience.

And I also appreciate that Najarro displays such catching enthusiasm about his work and is very open about enjoying working with talented people.

Isn't that great? He really believes in them
This comes to what I was saying before.I understand that it's difficult for some ex fans to deal with having coaches they learnt to hate cause their team always lost to them, but sometimes it becomes too immature. But that's the internet, what can we do. All we can do is focus on I/Z and what they can achieve. Whoever doesn't see it, that's his problem. We're talking about people with the best skating skills right now. And it's the kind of skating skills I realy appreciate, it's not textbook boring, it's textbook but they have there is this thing that makes it interesting. I'd like to see what approach they're gonna take for the waltz, they're capable of doing more than just plainly waltz

I'd say that Papadakis/Cizeron are really not worse. Cizeron is the male ice dancer with the best skating skills currently, and definitely not worse than Elena. Papadakis is not quite as strong, but I am not sure whether she is truly much worse than Ruslan. So, in my opinion, Ilinykh/Zhiganshin are one of the two teams with the best skating skills.

I agree with you about Cizeron, but IMO, Ruslan is much better than Papadakis (yes, she has improved). I have no doubt about that. His skating skills were better before, since he was skating with Viktoria. So making the sum of the two couples, I would say I&Z are better than P&C in that respect.

There is no escape from that. The medalists all have 2 GP's as well, and they will have to face one or two of them in one of the GP's, if not both. Anyway, the idea is to face them and if not beat them close the gap in scores right from the beginning and make the podium in the 2 GP's.
Well, as I've said, I have nothing against them facing anybody, I just think it might not be a good idea for them to face the current medalists in the medalists' home countries. For that reason COR, COC or NHK seem preferable to me.

Russian forums are like anywhere else. You have those who love them and those who don't love them. You have trolls who doesn't love anybody but just think it's fun to troll around. I truly believe that paying too much attention to them isn't worthy.
I fully agree, but I'm just glad that the individual skaters' threads are set up for fans on this forum, so that I don't have to wade through pages upon pages of trolling or hateful posts and fans responding to such posts. I guess some loyal fans can't resist jumping in and feel they should defend their favorite skater at least on his/her thread, even if in reality it just feeds the fire.

Regarding IZ's skating skills, considering how great they looked this season after just half a year together and how much they improved over the season, I think there's no predicting how they'll look come fall. I think they may just surprise everybody again! And if they have two great programs to present, with their expressiveness and connection - the sky's the limit :) :cheer:

I agree completely and I hope that it will be the case, but there is no reason to think that P/C will stop in their progress suddenly when they progressed so much from the previous season. To tell the truth, I love both couples, and also Weaver/Poje, so it will be interesting for me to see how it all unfolds.

Guys, woulld you please take a look at the OP of Ruslan & Elena's thread? I have updated it but are there more things you'd like to see added to it?

http://elenaruslan.tumblr.com/post/118383572084/averbukh-to-choreograph-ilinykh-zhiganshins-sd

Also, there is a facebook for them, but is it real or a fan site only?

Finally, what is the correct vk for Elena? The bio shows shindlerslist as her id, but it is a private account.

That's a wonderful job you're doing Doris. Thank you very much. :)

Maybe you could add their official group on vk and FB as well. It's a closed community on VK but there are no problems to be accepted after a request. https://vk.com/ilinykh_zhiganshin
This is the link for FB: https://www.facebook.com/ilinykhzhiganshinofficial?fref=ts

I believe the following are real, current and fully open accounts for them:

Elena:
https://instagram.com/blackswanei/

Ruslan:
http://vk.com/id4822965
https://twitter.com/zhiganshin_rus

The following is an open fan account, but I think the people who run it have direct access to Elena - it was from this site that people signed on to the master-class - and it's updated often, so I also like to visit it.

http://vk.com/blackswanei

There's also a fan site dedicated to them that's updated often, and I've seen photos there which I haven't seen anywhere else:

Ah okay. I misunderstood you, sorry. I thought you meant in their home countries referring to I&Z, as in COR. I think they will not get SA because it's too soon with Saransk, so it's only SC but I doubt that as well.

That's true and I think all couples will improve as well, but what made the difference last season, in P&C's case, was their FD more than anything else. It remains to be seen if they can top that, or even match, which is very hard for everybody and see how the judges will treat them.

last one..very last one...that's by yours truly... (so thanks lol)

These are the correct Ruslan accounts. The blackswanei vk is a fan page, but Lena has subscribed there like in all of their groups/pages.
