Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Evan has terrific skating skills and Madison can sell it but I don't view them as a team that should be World medalists. That's based on SS because they should not be as high as they are after the short dance. That's just my opinion. Clean to clean Ruslena blows them out of the water. And comparing their worlds SD- it shouldn't matter the skate order or Igor points.....that's just me.

MK's Winter, just based on personal tastes I agree with you 100 %. But it seems to me judges are willing to be readily swayed by reputation. They are a neat team though and judges appear to like that.

I feel like Ice Dance will always be run by politics. I do think Evan and Madison have some cool qualities but I have never jumped on their train. It has nothing to to with Emily Sanderson either. After watching US Nationals and the small distance between them and Shibs ( who are a tech savvy team) I became even more disenchanted with them.

I have compared the SD's between Ruslena and Chock and Bates and I am mind blown how they had the lead, they deserved it in the FD but not the short. Ruslena's twizzles covered way more ice, were faster and better unison.

My problem with the Shib's FD last year was that it was monotonous. Posture, expression, transitions, intensity etc. (unlike their EX). Pretty much if you watched the first two minutes of the dance you saw the whole dance. So C/B earned their first place I think. But in all honesty Igor is an exceptional tech specialist. If you go back and look at the edging and lightness the Shibs used to have especially for their Nat King Cole FD in 2011, you'll see what I mean. That's just the edge you have when you're coached by Igor S. But I really hope I/Z can step it up a few notches this season.

I believe they will. In respect to Chock and Bates I thought they should have been 3-4 points behind the Shibs but should have won the FD. Excited for all things Ruslena this season!

Could it be a fitting of a proposed SD costume or part of it?

There were also two (!) blog articles on sports.ru on Frieda in conjunction with IZ's new FD. Here are the links (in Russian, below), but what I find most noteworthy is the amount of interest and anticipation Elena and Ruslan have generated just by announcing their music choice and the name of the choreographer!

Hopefully with Rus, I'm still annoyed we never got Vaitsekhovskaya's interview with him...

Oh, yes, that interview. Going by the teaser and the fragment she published after Worlds, I think, it would have been very insightful.

Well obviously you can't wear jeans in ice dancing (although I'd love that than the sexist approach of 'girls should wear a skirt'...)

I think it's a photoshoot, could be a fashion one who knows .But I can't wait either way

I didn't like their FD either. I agree, it was a bit boring and nothing special. Their SD was great though. To me they should've been on the top together with I&Z in the SD.

 Their SD was a treat. My problem with the Shibs is they tend to add a "tada" after each crisply done element, move into a standard transition then another cleanly performed element. They used to have this ease and fluidity throughout. Training in the Canton camp appears to be vastly different in comparison to when Igor was there and this is why C/B are now world silver medalists.

I hope she does a photo shoot with Ruslan soon, especially if there's an interview attached. I also haven't gotten over not seeing his interview with Vaitsekhovskaya.
