Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I think it's interesting how in her last interview Yulia Lipnitskaya admits that at first it was difficult for her to watch other skaters compete at championships because she was used to be among them, "But during the Europeans I went to Stockholm, took long walks in the city, spend some time with the other skaters, with Lena Ilinykh. And she knows how to uplift one's mood." I think it's so nice of Elena, and I'm impressed that young as she is, she knows how to do this, and has so much empathy in the first place. I'm so happy for them that they are friends!

Lena has had much experience with persons kicking her when she's down. So she could empathize with Julia. I remember Bobrova actually making fun of I/K on her instagram account when the split was confirmed in the early days. So if this could be done publicly I know Lena went through a lot that we know nothing about. This added to their amazing talent makes it very hard not to root for them.

I'm sure of that - I've heard some rumors (actually involving Bobrova's mother spreading rumors about Elena back when she was skating with Katsalapov). And I've read some awful lying articles about her, from supposed insiders. Also the atmosphere on a major Russian forum makes me think that there's somebody behind it (somebody with money). But all these strategems really only show how desperate Elena's rivals were and are now. And it doesn't work to alienate the fans either. IK were more popular than BS by a mile, and after the split IZ have acquired a legion of fans. Most everybody was so impressed by their work and her strong character, that she has only gained in terms of fan support after the split. I've read testimonials from people that they or people sitting next to them had come to an event to root for someone else and ended up rooting for IZ instead! I only hope that IZ know better than to pay any heed to a certain corrupt forum and the false consensus it generates.

She didn't say anything direct, just let's make fun or jokes of this incredulous situation. But it opened my eyes to what Lena must have endured from more ardent "well wishers" LOL.

You see a lot of this IMHO, is backlash from the affair with Morozov and her interest in acting in the future, forays into modeling, her poetry etc. A girl having so much talent is to dedicate her life to her sport only, seemingly with these other distractions she can't possibly be giving of her best and as such she doesn't deserve the successes she has gained. That is just the culture. So their is a great deal of angst and jealousy directed at her in these Russian forums. It's like she isn't even a Russian athlete, but some alien. The rub is that Lena appears to need these outlets to thrive, but these are allowances typically made for men and not assertive women. Thankfully however she seems to have a more supportive and respectful team so I hope that she and Ruslan are able to realize their dreams.

Wouldn't it be great if last season was just a taste?

I have no doubt that last year was just a taste. Even if they make mistakes this season, and they probably will because they are only human, they will still be better than last year. Their circumstances have changed, their frame of mind, they have programs that they chose and love. They are amazing skaters individually and by some miracle they are also amazing together. They clicked. So this year they need consistency and a bit of luck. I really believe that hard work and talent aren't enough without that bit of luck. I'm sure there are a lot of talented and hardworking people out there who still couldn't make a breakthrough.

I think it's not because of her other talents and side interests. Sotnikova has expressed an interest in acting after fs, and Lipnitskaya said the same when she was asked if she'd be interested. Yagudin, Tikhonov and Zhulin have acted in the theater and/or in TV shows. Elena hasn't participated in any side project so far, she was only talking about her future after sport, so there can be no objections to that, and personally I haven't seen any. Also adult figure skaters aren't expected to have no private life. True, Elena was hounded relentlessly over the affair with Morozov, both on the forums and in tabloids, but I think it's just a pretext. For instance, when Soloviev left his wife and baby son to pursue an affair with Stolbova, they found plenty of defenders on that same forum.

I think the real reason is that Elena is extremely attractive, and most fs fans are women, and among them naturally there can be found a few who envy her a lot. The fact that she's also supremely talented at her job adds to that envy. And then when her partner left her, and her haters thought she'd be finished, the partnership with Ruslan proved brilliant from the start, and to make it even worse for the haters, he thinks a world of her and really cares about her (as a person). Envy that had been hot before turned to a boiling point. To be sure, these women are very few in number, but they're very active - it's like this hatred consumes them and is one of their raison d'etres. Moreover, it must be not particularly pleasant for them to be consumed by so much hate, but communicating with like-minded souls on the web must help alleviate it somewhat.

I think her attractiveness is the key, and everything else adds to it. But again, these people are really very few in number. Even on that forum whenever somebody posts a nice picture of Elena, the post gets a huge amount of "likes." Also they had a Ms and Mr FS vote there this summer, and Elena and Ruslan both won by a landslide, so much so that the haters complained that IZ have an army of fans who overhauled the vote, and they organized another vote without Elena and Ruslan on the lists, lol. Also, seeing IZ skate in Russia, it's easy to see the support they get. It's just that most people don't see the point of arguing with the haters and just ignore them.

Recently I think there also appeared a new phenomenon which is being fueled by money IMO, because I've seen people who know something about fs advance totally ridiculous opinions, like saying that IZ's best skate of SD emotions-wise was at the GPF (!) expressed by the forum moderator (!) and others agreeing, just to cite one example. But anyway it won't make any difference. These people just don't realize how pathetic they are. Nobody who matters in fs is going to read them, and if anyone did, they'd think they're only good for a laugh, or an illustration of some aspects of human nature.

I saw this on the Internet and for some reason I thought of I/Z :p

Exactly! Great pic, thanks for bringing it here.

But I didn't know that Elena writes poetry. I've read that she wrote fairy-tales for her brother, but didn't know about poetry. Did she ever post any?

What an eye you have? Wouldn't it be great if last season was just a taste? Hahahaha......

I bet it was. They were already brilliant last season, at least kn the SD. And now they are National champions with a lot of confidence, hopefully right programs and support from the Fed (at least I hope so) and fans. I love the photo they publihed while working with Najarro, I adore that pose. I hope it will do magic in their FD.

She has never said she has other interests beside skating. She has mentioned she wants to become a coach. She has never said she wants to become an actress and quit skating, only that she'd like to try it if she gets a chance AFTER her career is over. Even when asked about DWTS like Adelina she said AFTER she stops skating.
She hasn't said she writes poems either. There was only one mention of that 5 years ago in some article, and I'm surely doing article hunting for forums and site for the last few years..But maybe it skipped me.
So why try to present Lena as a person who's not serious about skating.?Cause 3-4 female fans of her ex partner, who wanted her to get married to him, seriously now, say that on FSO? Probably coming from the horse's mouth all along? And of course competitors in skating always jump on the bandwagon.

Actually she's one of the most popular skaters in Russia, surprise, yes, russian fans love her!:)And I/Z are twice as popular and loved as I/K were before Sochi at least.
And this mainly because these two have what was missing from most of the 2010-2014 era Russian teams, inherent style.

Alithia, I was just trying to find a rationale as to why these persons seem to be so committed to hurting her personally and for so long. You are right all this is old news. It's as if they need to bring her down a tad in the eyes of fans. Their masterclass has been the most successful in recent history. I would also include TAT and Besti in that lot. But I have a feeling the more mud they pour on Lena the more supportive their fans will become :cheer2:

Bramweld, you know that even this coming from TAT was a compliment:laugh2:
But there is no rationale when the rumours come from within, both of us know it

I only remember that my eyes were glued to Elena at Sochi, I didn't watch The guy lol. I thought she was such a passionate athlete and she loved what she's doing. And the more I know about her the more I like her attitude and Ruslan. Who cares about her past. Those that are jealous of her will eventually tire out.

I think the We will rock you part won't be as big as people probably think it will be.But this remains to be seen. It's intriguing, as well as the version they will be using.
I have pictured the SD many times but I'm sure I'm wrong and this is the magic of it.Usually when I can't picture something it's gonna be good.
I always see some ice dance moves in my mind while I'm listening music, usually my imaginary skaters are Virtue/Moir. This habit can't be healthy.:drama:

I imagine beginning of the SD will be ''We Will Rock You''; just set the mood and get audience into dance. I really really hope that. Please don't use waltz part first.:drama: (I hope it is not against the rules) If we still have side by side steps, they could have done in this part but we don't so they had to do lift or twizzles. In my mind I put ''lift'' first. Something like Crone/Poirier did in 2010., just after lyrics begin. Then they move into twizzles. They are doing twizzles in ''we will rock you'' part, we are clapping between sets while they are changing edges (like Sinitsina/higanshin did in 2014). They are doing only two sets in my mind. Then they can waltz rest of the dance. My second opinion is; after the twizzles, they are doing a straight line lift in other we will rock you part. Ilinykh is on the air and she looks very cool. It is change of pose lift and her eyes is on to audience.

You're even imagining the clapping :laugh2: You're good. Now I can actually picture it. I hope you're right, it sounds amazing. I could really see Elena during that lift, "looking very cool". They'll rock it. :cheer:

 I love this!

They have to do the waltz part first as the march part has to come after the mandatory stop.

They could do the march first, march hold step sequence has to come after the stop, but not necessarily before the waltz & the only elements that have to be done to the waltz are the set pattern seqeunces. So you could do something like WWRY: lift - twizzles - stop - march sequence - change to SBTL - waltz sequence x 2

Does anybody think they are going to change their twizzle section? I love their twizzles, but I think they are harder than it needs to be to get level 4.

Regarding their SD, I think it`s better to put the ravensburger waltz sequences very early on, because it is much more difficult than the PD of last season.
