Just random thoughts.. Joshua Farris - beautiful skate, really stood apart from the field. ( Now ..Transformers for his FP ? I would imagine that will be something completely different. I'm intrigued.. 
)
But I found lots of other things to admire in the men's field as well..
Both Kihara and Dimitriev show a lot of promise , but please can Dimitriev have some better choreography ?
I liked both Wang and Angers' programs and I'll be watching for them in future..But I'm completely smitten with two of the younger guys , Tarasenko and Uno .Obviously, they're both going to grow and who knows what trials they may go through with their jumps when that happens...but I can't think that either will lose much in the way of performance abilities. Uno is so neat and seems to relate to his music well.His program managed to be suitable for a junior and sophisticated at the same time. I really enjoyed him.
And Tarasenko ? This is my second "Gobsmack" from the Mishin camp this year ( the first being video of Gachinski's new FD) I hope this confirms that there's one old dog who can learn new tricks , just when I'd given up hope. For years ,I've been gnashing my teeth wishing Mishin would pay some attention to getting better choreo for his students ..and it looks like he's doing it. Tarasenko ( Vlad ? Slava ? ) was obviously committed to his program , and he put a big grin on my face when I saw him this morning.

It's very brave of them to do their whole program to chacha, and at that, very North American 1950's/1960's chacha songs (Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White and Cha Cha d'Amour). The mood isn't very Latin, but it does hit it for early sock hops of my memory.
BTW, T&D skated to Cherry Pink in their 1981 OSP when they won their first ever World Championship. It was the only time that seniors had the ChaCha for the OSP/OD.
Now a Russian team I hadn't heard of before has taken the lead:

The Hasagawa's had significantly better TES, but Y&M better PCS.
Just watched the video-judges are getting it about right. This team definitely had better speed & strength, and a better Latin feel, but his technique could use some improving, both in lifts and opposite direction twizzles. His twizzles remind me of Soloviev's-a hair off axis with the free leg foot very low- and inviting a step out.

Just saw Bobak/Beherry's LP. They are the real deal. A couple errors (the SBS spin was wrong, she two-footed the first 2A in the sequence, ur'ed the second) but they landed everything else and their PCS were deservingly quite high. They need more "pairness" and will get that, she needs more expression, but there were some chills. They scored 90.91, which I thought was quite good, and demonstrates that they have potential. That would put them fifth in WJs last season (FS only)
I'll just ditto doris on the ice dancers, because she went into my head and stole my words
I will say that the top two junior French teams (P/C here and Zahoriski/Miart) are really impressing me.

Congratulations to the medalists. The American teams need to get their SBS jumping under control and off correct edges (actually, I guess that goes for most of the teams). Also, looking at the protocols, the Russians (Grechukhina/Filonov) had a deduction for "illegal element." Anybody know what that was about?

Boy! so much to catch up with over coffee ! ( keep it up , ISU ! )
Dance : Good for the Hasegawa's..They skated well, but now I remember their SD from the Quebec thing..cute ,and well portrayed , but I kind of wish they'd played it straight. I know , I know..latin = sexy...
Siblings ! , etc. , ad nauseum.. Still , might playing it straight have been more competitive ? Never mind, it was a good skate, and I like their FD , coming up.
There's no doubt Sinitsina / Zhiganshin deserve #1 and it was much easier to like their dance now that you could hear their music ( the sound at their test skate was ghastly).. and though they weren't as polished, I did like Galyeta & Shumski..But for me, too, Papadakis & Cizeron stood right out. They seemed fast , and they have that same feeling of freedom in their skating that I like in O/W..as if it's just the most natural thing in the world for them , and they don't have to think about it at all. Besides, I loved their music choices.
A very decent first time out for Bruser and Lum ( love the way he moves ) but please Noa..stop growing, now.
Pairs : Bobak & Beharry ? Really great potential . Diamonds in the rough , but I want to see less rough and more diamond in a hurry. They should be locked away with a very stern ballet master / mistress whenever they're off the ice.. I have to say though, it looks like they've been with the Wirtz's from the get go , so Kristy and Chris ought to hang their heads over her stiff arms / high shoulders and his shortcomings in stretch, line. M-T/M are proof that these improvements can be made ...why wait till it has to be a big fix ? I hope they get right on it because these two are exciting, but don't they have to move up next year ?
Simpson / Blackmer were another nice surprise for me. they're very comparable in age to B/B , but definitely more polished. ( her shoulders get high in lifts, etc.. but ,seems to be a strength training issue with her ? ) Anyway , I liked them a lot, too.
Tudvaseva / Liseev ? Loved their short program..ideal for them. That's making lemonade !..look out once she grows to fit him better. Hope they can stay together.
Great competition for the US I'm really taken with Calalang & Sidhu . I'll definitely be watching for them.. Aaron & Settlage , too , but a bit less so at the mo..work in progress.
I've barely looked at the women yet..must press on !

Definitely think I'm less impressed by Bruser/Lum than even earlier in the season...I think that he's being outshadowed by her and not in a good way!!! He sort of looks like he's dragging her along and unless he grows and she stops, I don't see it lasting. I'd like to see him find a smaller, more agile, expressive partner.

Whew, one day away from my computer and I missed so much!
I thought the Hasegawas skated really well. I thought the comical theme was a good choice, especially since the idea of siblings doing latin dances makes me want to
I did like that they managed to at least keep a somewhat Latin feel throughout with the music choices.
I had a bigger issue with Bruser/Lum's skate. It really bugs me that they skated what was supposed to be a Latin routine with Latin style outfits but absolutely no Latin music. Would it have hurt to at least try to pick music appropriate to the theme? I wish they had kept the routine more authenic. That being said, I think they had a nice debut, and was impressed by their pep and expression, especially through the CD section.
As for the ladies, it was a shame to see Kate Charbonneau struggle so much with the jumps. I thought the program was great, and was once again impressed by the way that she moved through the spins and footwork and kept up with the fast paced music.
I'm so happy for Bobak/Beharry. A few mistakes, but I felt like they really showed their worth out there. They were sharp and seem to move really well together. I was particularly impressed by that gorgeous twist, as I was when I first saw them do it at Thornhill last month. Skate Canada had better give these two a second JGP.

I think at 13 and 16, Bruser and Lum can be cut a bit of slack , before we start clamoring for a split... With the differences in the way girls and boys grow , she could be finished growing and he could easily have another good sprout yet to come...Or she may get too tall , but it's too soon to tell.
I'm wondering if we don't have the ISU itself to blame for some of the strange music choices going around . I seem to remember they put out a statement ,or explanation, or something about what they were aiming for with the SD before they actually met and decided on the exact form. IIRC, they made mention of the popularity of DWTS being a boon to ballroom dance, and the hope of making some sort of compulsory requirement more accessible to audiences. I worried at the time that the homogenization ( is that a word ?) of music would ensue ..( the imposing other rhythms on to pop songs , or adding pop / disco rhythms to classic ballroom dances ). It's one of the main things I dislike about DWTS. For every song that works , there are many more that don't.
It could also be that too many coaches decided to try to be different in order to make their couples stand out , and consequently , the real latin choices could wind up being the different ones.

With the differences in the way girls and boys grow , she could be finished growing and he could easily have another good sprout yet to come...Or she may get too tall , but it's too soon to tell.I'm wondering if we don't have the ISU itself to blame for some of the strange music choices going around . I seem to remember they put out a statement ,or explanation, or something about what they were aiming for with the SD before they actually met and decided on the exact form. Now that's more like it. Bruser and Lum's FD had everything a good tango should. Speed, sharpness, flow and tons of expression. I am so surprised, and very very impressed. Wow. I loved every second of that, and I thought the nuances were really well choreographed. I think these two could make a run for gold at nationals this year, in spite of the fact that they've just moved up. Good for them!
I adored the Hasegawas FD music, but the program was just OK for me. I would have liked to see them carry more flow and speed through the footwork, but I know that will improve as the season goes along. Overall, a nice competition for them.

I don't know if this means that B/L need to overhaul their SD , or if they paid a bit of a price for not having been seen before , or a bit of both, but that 8th place SD really hurt them.
I think you're right about the Hasegawas re; speed & flow..Plus she seemed to come out of a twizzle too soon and a lift or two seemed not quite on..But I really like their program. I think the choreography is lovely and cleverly done ..balletic enough to give the right feel , but definitely, definitely ice dance .
Papadakis & Cizeron's early Elvis was just great. I loved every thing about it .. choreography , costumes , energy..I really like this team.
Sinitsina / Zhiganshin..What to say ? They're excellent skaters, there were some lovely highlights , yet I was bored by their program . I can't say they shouldn't have won , but I wouldn't feel compelled to watch this again.
Galyeta / Shumski...urk ! That was grim.. How on earth could they wind up with those scores , especially in PCS ?
Yanovskaia / Mozgov..another boring program with some nice lifts , don't like that she skates so bent over...

Finally got around to watching the dance.
None of the SDs aside from the French were really all that appealing. S/Z were good, however.
I thought Sinitsina/Zhingashin had a lovely FD, even though PoTO makes me nauseated. They seemed to have great speed and flow, and gorgeous lifts and twizzles. On a shallow note, she's gorgeous and I love her hair. I really enjoyed them.

It was very difficult for me to watch anyone except for Sinitsina/Zhiganshin. Everyone looked so awkward and I definitely would not have put the Ukrainians in second place.

1. Sinitsina/Zhiganshin looked very cautious in the beginning, but gathered momentum as the program went on. The tech caller must have been in a bad mood to give them a fall deduction for that, but they were overmarked in PCS anyway. The coronation of S/G will follow the footsteps of M/K last year making the junior season utterly boring in terms of the top spot. They're undeniably the best juniors so far, but a full seven points GOE for that? Nope.
2. Papadakis/Cizeron had my favourite program, definitely. They seemed to run out of steam in the last thirty seconds or so, but how they kept the character throughout was terrific.
3. Galyeta / Shumski were also overmarked. Sloppy and awkward.
4. The Hasegawa's were underwhelming. I actually think the choreography was relatively bad - the placement of the elements was wierd. But they were also slow, which didn't help.
5. Yanovksaia/Mozgov - nice elements. Where's the program?
6. Noa/Bruser were undermarked, I felt, but given that she's only 13 and he sixteen, they have time. As long as she doesn't grow - their height difference is virtually negligible at this point (or does she skate big and he small). She reminds me of Domnina.
