Europeans Free Dance

Technical points aside, I must admit I loved the Kerr's FD. Go Brits.

Very innovative lifts, sbs twizzle could have been better. oh well.

I still havent seen any of the FD but Dom/Shab have a much better program this season IMO so this result doesnt surprise me. And I don't get the "overall they did better" argument for the french. Its not as if the CD and OD weigh the same in the competition and they shouldnt be. I
'm fairly new to this FS world but I must say also it amuses me how contradictory can be the reactions. I've been reading web articles aboout the europeans and some just cant praise enough the russians while other sites are as conspiracy theorists as the members here saying it was a robbery. Who to trust?? I guess only me, thats why I gotta go watch the FD as soon as possible. I'm happy about the news of K/N getting standing ovation, they are my new faves :)

I absolutely love Olivier and Isabelle, but they're starting to lack in athleticism caues they're so much older than the other teams, and I see the other Russian team catching up with them by next year. Do you think Age is getting the better of them? I would hate it if they just fell behind everyone by 2010...Wha tdo you think?

But wasn't "not being so athletic and technical, and focus more on artistry" what they were going for this season ?
Looking at their last season's FD, I would say their athleticism is just fine...
I still like their last season's free dance better than this one...

I am just glad their partnership with Platov seems to be working.

Oh yes, I think is definetly a factor. I think Del/Scho peaked at the 04/05 & 05/06 seasons and sadly were really underscored in favor of Gruchina & Goncharov and now they're running out of time cause despite any conspiracy theory out there the fact is the russian teams are getting better and better each year. They still have more flow and confidence that's for sure and their PC score should be higher than Dom/Shab.

....2006 winter olympics torino!:scowl:

i think 2nd Russian pairs programme was the best in free dance, but they became 3rd in free dance.

If a Russian team MUST win, I wonder, why not the BEST one did it.
The only couple I really liked was Khohlova-Novitski. I think, they will held up next year, before the Olympic, having better chance there to be pushed to the Gold..
Dom/Shab is just the same boring story than Navka /Kostomarov. A brainwash well in advance of the Olympic Games. The situation is easier, because there is no other good team like Denkova/ Staviyski was at that time ( judges killed them for 3 years because of that). Maybe Virtue/Moir will be killed for 3 other years and than getting 1 World Gold after the Olympics... ??

I love ise dancing, but it is NOT A SPORT anymore. It is sad...

I know they're crowd pleasers, I just have a real hard time perceiving ... anything they do as dance. They make even CDs look like jumpless pairs....

I liked Khoklova/Novitski a lot, they worked very well with the music and got a huge reaction from the crowd. But I felt like there was something missing, like... a thrown triple loop.
I catched a replay on the french eurosport and heard some of the comments of their commentator... he didn't really measure his words. He said that K/N performance was meant and had every move calculated to get a reaction, to make it a spectacle, not necessarily ice dancing (at least is what I understood...) I kinda agree with him on that point.
I guess it's like that "artistry" of falling arms to footwork a lá Morozov. It impresses the crowd, but should that really count as artistry ?
Sorry to sound like I'm bashing them, I liked their performance (like I liked everyone on the final group plus, of course, Cappellini/Lanotte).

oh my god I just saw this

and this definitely is the BEST Isabelle and Olivier have ever performed the Piano program. They've never had such chemistry before. I could almost believe that they were in love. With what explosiveness they attacked the program! They were absolutely perfect this night, and it's such a shame that they didn't win Europeans despite that. I just hope they get rewarded for their effort. Without them winning a World AND an Olympic medal, I would be so heartbroken.

i know, such powerful emotion!
the emphasis on the sign language and facial expression
is almost weird seeing them connect and work together emotionally this well

i don't care about result WE all know who deserved to "win"

I though Domnina and Shabalin were great, but I would have prefered it if Delobel and Schoenfelder had won (and not because I'm French!). I think that although Domnina's Shabalin's free skate was brilliant, Delobel and Schoenfelders's was slightly better. It's very hard to compare the two as they are so different, and the judges must have had a tough time choosing between them. But the thing is, Delobel and Schoenfelder's FD brings tears to my eyes, it's so emtional, and that believe me doesn't often happen. I also think that Delobel and Schoenfelder had a better competition as a whole. But the thing that bugs me is that last year their FD was dead boring, whereas, and yet they won the gold medal, but this year it's the contrary. However, I've heard many French fans say that the gold medal was stolen from them, which think is really pathetic. It was just very close to call and the judges had to make a choice.

Natacha, it just shows how subjective it is. Emotionally, Delobel & Schoenfelder's program did nothing for me; in fact, I had a stronger response to Bechalat & Bourzat. This just shows that there is no right or wrong way to look at the emotional effect of the program.
