U.S. FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS – SKATING SPECTACULAR
All the medalists from last weekend's U.S. Figure Skating Championships take to the ice in the Skating Spectacular exhibition from the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn. (Feb. 2, 4-6 p.m. ET). Among the skaters featured in the broadcast are ladies champion Mirai Nagasu, men's champion Evan Lysacek, pairs champions Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker and ice dancing champions Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto. Additionally, NBC will show Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir's free skate programs from Sunday afternoon. Lysacek and Weir finished in a tie, but Lysacek took the gold medal by defeating Weir in the free skate.

Looks like Weir and Lysacek will be re-shown, and possibly analyzed/explained.

That is just going to work up my anger again. No thank you. Can't they just...argh.

However I can't wait for the exhibitions! Especially Johnny's and D/W's. Am I the only one who cannot stand B/A's exhibition?

Arrgh! Please no repeat coverage!

I'm with you there purplecat. I don't care for repeat coverage either.

NBC could show the exhibitions of two more skaters/teams who probably won't get airtime because they feel the need to rehash something we've seen already. In fact I'd thought I had read that the top three from novice, junior and senior events would be shown. I must have been mistaken.

The only time I don't mind recaps is if the network does something similar to ESPN's having two separate programs with one being a recap show and the other being the exhibition.

lmarie086, I take your post to mean that B&A did their "Sexyback" exhbition again? I don't mind the program but it's not my favorite though I suppose Tanith and Ben keep using it because they've been spending more time on their competitive programs.

Anybody watch???

I just want to say - Joe, you are so right when you are right!!! Adam Rippon is wonderful, just wonderful - I can't wait to see more of him.

I don't care what she is skating to, Caroline just pulls at my heart strings and I got all teary eyed, again!

Yu-Na, watch out cuz' Mirai is likely to turn out to be a first rate jumper - just like you; she has great jumping technique and confidence and her other elements are fantastic. Just wonderful. I loved that she was skating to Queen - so, well unusual in a way for a 'little girl'...not predictable and I loved that. And Rachel, mature beyond her years - for me, lovely to watch - I just need a little more 'something' but don't know what that something is. But text book great.

Let's see....loved Weir's Ave Maria. Now there's like 4-5 of them I love (buttle's remains a fav of mine, but so is Sandhu's...). Evan was just full of energy and changing music at the last minute can't be an easy thing to do!

I personally hope John and Rena skate really well at worlds - they really do have a lot of polish and skill. I couldn't stay to watch Tanith and Ben because I really dislike that program....hope the crowd felt otherwise.

I have just finished watching the exhibitions with Johnny and Evan's LP replay. It once again firmed my believe that there was no way that Evan should win that LP.

This is the first time ever that I see Adam Rippon skates. I like him very much! I love Caroline Zhang's program, Evan's short program is good enough for the exhibition, but most of all, Johnny Weir. Such intense performance from him with facial expressions which he seldom had before. I love it! Mirai's performance is so juniorish. I don't care about B&A's program at all.

Missed this. I was at the ballet watching Double Feature, a Susan Stroman work. Sooooo good. Got home at 5:45 and forgot about the Exhibitions. Kind of late anyway.

Will there be a repeat of this? NBC is not ABC in so many ways. Maybe I can see it on Nancy's.

Emma. I love to point out young talent. When I first saw him I think he had 1 triple toe. But there was that je ne sais quoi. Unfortnately, Carron and Jost are in Skate Dance, which I will never understand just what the technical score is, but they do have that something without the sturm und drang.

Joe

I must profess my love to NBC for actually putting Adam Rippon on! I had heard he had a good exhibition (plus I watched him practice it at the Xcel) and I was so excited to have seen it! Can't wait to see more of that guy!

And Johnny Weir was soooo cheated! They did replay the LP's again and to me it's obvious that Weir's was better!

For those who have icenetwork all of the Exhibitions are up.

so....for those that don't have icenetwork...any youtube links would be much appreciated....I keep checking for Weir's but can't seem to find it.

Computer went under again.

However, from what I could see, good coverage except for the recap of the Men's FS. Most of the viewers watching the exhibition have likely seen it already. Maybe a short analysis would have worked out better so they could squeeze in a couple more exhibition skates.

Here was the actual running order of the exhibition (music listed where known)...

Marissa Secundy
Daniel O'Shea - "Boston"
Brynn Carman/Christopher Knierim - show program version of their "City Slickers" FS

Alexe Gilles - "Rich Girl" by Gwen Stefani
*Adam Rippon - "Pagliacci"
Jessica Rose Paetsch/Jon Nuss - "Barbie Girl"

*Johnny Weir - "Ave Maria"
*Rena Inoue/John Baldwin - "Come What May"

*Mirai Nagasu - "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen
*Tanith Belbin/Ben Agosto - "SexyBack"

They devoted about 15 minutes to the Weir/Evan repeats, and I would have preferred to see the junior and novice ladies champions and maybe junior pairs. Just an inconsiderate choice by NBC.

I thought Rachel's program was the BEST! Cute, but not TOO cute, just a slight bit of "saucy", and nicely mature. I rate Ashley's program a close second. I also thought Vise&Trent did a great program.

Could some please tell me, who are the performers of Adam Rippon's Pagliacci
and Johnny Weir's Ave Maria? Thank you!

Just got through watching the Exhibitions on icenetwork (thank you icenetwork, you've been a godsend). :) I'm too lazy to watch what I hope I recorded, as I'm never home on the weekends, but what I saw on icenetwork was great.

Loved Rachel Flatt's "Black Horse & A Cherry Tree" program, which reminded me of Oksana Baiul, whom skated to this very music at 2006 Ice Wars; love the music. She truly looked like a cherry tree out there, but with that trademark strawberry blonde hair she reminds me of some famous redheaded orphans ~ Pollyanna as played by Haley Mills, Pippi Longstockings, and Little Orphan Annie as sung by Andrea McArdle, the original Annie.

Also enjoyed McLaughlin & Brubaker's "Play that Funky Music" program.

The whole show was enjoyable, especially watching the skaters' throw fan goodies to the audience at the very end.

P.S. honorable mentions to Ashley Wagner, whom reminded me of Sarah Hughes when she skated to the same music "Bye Bye Blackbird", and Davis & White; can't get over how much he looks & skates like Gwendal Peizerat.

adam rippon....speechless

after seeing his exhibition - i admire him more than i did when i first saw johnny.

he is perfect hahaha
but a bit "tackily" dramatic in the end.

hope to see him rule the international scene.

Johnny's Ave Maria was spectuacular......I love that he took his time and reeallllly held and stretched out every move. (Yes, he should have won) Rachel Flatt is just adorable. She seems like the girl next door. I also don't care for Tanith & Ben's exhibition.

He lacks a quad and maybe a 3A and posters will come down on him for that. His beautiful skating wont even come into the picture.
