Exhibition: 2/2 4-6PM, NBC | Page 2 | Golden Skate

Exhibition: 2/2 4-6PM, NBC

Keegan Messing as a 3A ;) (had to bring him up lol)

The whole show was enjoyable, especially watching the skaters' throw fan goodies to the audience at the very end

I got a tshirt!!!!!! One of the novice skaters pitched it in my direction... no one had signed it so I went down and got Evan to (ok so Kwanfan1212 shoved me in his direction cuz I was too shy) he is so stinkin tall

He lacks a quad and maybe a 3A and posters will come down on him for that. His beautiful skating wont even come into the picture.

Joe

Personally, I definitely do not come down on Adam Rippon for those reasons. Many skaters don't have a quad or a solid 3Axel when they are in juniors. Take Stephen Carriere and Patrick Chan when they were juniors for example. As far as I'm concerned, Adam Rippon stole the show in the Exhibition. His elements and basic skating were executed so smoothly and he has a beautiful, dramatic style. He skates beyond his years and has so much passion . . . I'm really looking forward to more from him! The US has so many strong, talented skaters moving up from junior to senior nowadays . . . it's so exciting!

Didn't like Adam's number. He's too young for this music, he doesn't know those feelings Morozov told him to express. Would rather watch the sensei himself skating to this dramatic piece.

Didn't like Johnny's number either. It's the same ol' thing I've seen 4 or 5 times, but to a different music. It's sad.

I just need to pitch Adam one more time (I promise!). I want a little doll of him to display on my dresser in one of his exquisite positions. That boy is the most beautiful skater I've ever seen. But I agree that the end of that exhibition program was a little over the top.

Johnny's Ave Maria was spectuacular......I love that he took him time and reeallllly held and stretched out every move. (Yes, he should have won) Rachel Flatt is just adorable. She seems like the girl next door. I also don't care for Tanith & Ben's exhibition.

I so agree with you. I loved Johnny's Ave Maria too. Was that Josh Groban? It was a beautiful program!

Yes Johnny did skate to Josh Groban, from his cd "Noel"-definitely worth buying fyi, a piece of work for the ages!
And yes, while Adam Rippon is young-heck, he's my age-I thought he was impressive for the music he was skating to. It doesn't matter your age so much because there are certain skaters older than he (I won't mention who) who could never have pulled that off. He's a talent for the future. I can't wait to see him compete with Carriere next season for a spot on the podium-I think it'll end in Rippon's favor.
And showing the Weir/Lysacek LP's again did make me angry. No way did Lysacek deserve the scores-especially PCS. Weren't those higher than what he got last year, when I admit he was actually in character for the entire program, rather than for just the FW?
Enjoyed Meryl and Charlie, but then I always do. Caroline was wonderful, and I would love to like Rachael, but I can't. I don't know what it is about her but I can't get into her skating.

Exhibition

I was disappointed that the Weir/Lysacek performances were shown again. I would much rather have seen more of the exhibition. However, with all the praise that Lysacek gets for his Carmen program, I felt the first part of his program is just very boring. Yes, he does his big jumps---and not that well at this particular performance. But, it seems to me that he throws away the music in the first part of this program. He really could be skating to just any music. I will admit that he gets into the music later in the program. However, I still find him to be a mechanical skater with very little musiciality or style of his own.

Getting back to the exhibitions.....I was very impressed by Adam Rippon. He's a lovely skater with a monstrous future ahead of him. Rachael and Ashley were both precious. Caroline Zhang was adorable as usual. Too bad she folded under the pressure in her short program. Mirai is just a dream skater. She has so much talent and can only get better in the future.

Agree with those who didn't care for Ben and Tanith's exhibition program. The pairs didn't impress me simply because I just don't see the U.S. being competitive in pairs at Worlds. Hopefully the young pairs will mature and improve with time.

I'm getting sick of the press dissecting every little thing that happens regarding Lysacek and Weir. Too much attention to guys who may or may not even make the podium at Worlds.

Hsuhs- I disagree with you about 100% on both of your suspect observations. You know nothing of what Adam Rippon does or doesn't feel. And further you clearly know nothing of Johnny's past programs if you think this Ave Maria is a choreographic re-hash.

Sad? Indeed.

What is so suspect about my observations?

Oh and I wish Uncle Dick put on his skates and showed us a real Maria.

We just watched the exhibitions and were over them reshowing the LPs of Johnny(who should have won) and Evan. I would have much rather seen, Stephen Carriere and Navarro & Bommentre. I also was not thrilled how they went out of order for the exhibitions and I think the gold medalists should have been shown last.

I LOVED Mirai & Caroline's exhibitions. Ive seen Mirai's several times before and it was as wonderful as always. Those 2 are just wonderful. I cant wait to see what they come up with in the future for programs:rock::love:

I LOVED Johnny's Ave Maria. Josh Groban's version is beautiful. I agree the whole CD is just beautiful. So was Johnny's program.

Over Tanith & Ben's exhibition. LOVE them:love: but sexy back is anything but.:p

I really liked Davis & white's exhibition but I am a huge fan of thiers so they could have skated to anything and I would have been happy.

We were quite impressed with Adam Rippon. I look forward to his senior debut.

Rachel & Ashely's exhibitions were cute:yes:

I can't belive I missed this!!! I hope that sombody posts it all on youtube... athough I am not sure if i want to watch every other skater trying to dance to "sexyback." I must be wierd but when i first heard that song i didn't think "what a great skating peice this would make!"

Very surprised that Johnny skated to ave maria. Evan skated to it many times.

Actually he is skating to Tosca this year

that being said Tosca is far too similar to his Carmen (which I love!) in choreography... aside from the white shirt it's almost identical to even my eyes  (ok not identical, but it is very similar.)

Very surprised that Johnny skated to ave maria. Evan skated to it many times.

Lots of skaters also skated Ave Maria before Evan, he doesn't own the rights to the music.

I was there. I bought exhibition ticket to see Adam skate, one more time.
He was great, and so was Johnny. Both of them the best of the night. Johnny got the biggest and loudest standing ovation.
I wish Adam, did not touch his face so often during his program. That's my only complain.

Tonichelle,

You are right, of course. Evan's LP is to Tosca not Carmen as I mistakingly stated. Geez, Tosca---Carmen----they have both been done to death.

Makes me curious as to what Evan will choose next year. I would like to see him do something less dramatic. His style is better suited to something on the light side.

I agree that I'd like to see him skate to something completely different... he did really well with Singing In The Rain in 05... and I didn't think Grease was all that bad

So, the whole lack of youtube is killing me -- anyone have better luck than me finding the exhibitions???

emma, Apparently Russian TV showed the US championships, and a number of vids from that source as well as the NBC aired stuff is available at fsvids.net. It is part of the members only forum-register and upload a video or two, and you can see that forum.
