Favorite/least favorite moments?

No, you silly, she wasn't singing, she skated with her mouth open.

I feel bad for Berezhnaya, too. Any idea who knocked her up?

Hsuhs - please review teh guidelines... tabloid/rumors are unacceptable fodder.

Pregnancy yes - debating who the baby's daddy is - no.

and not continuing to argue - but considering I don't read russian that article could say anything...

okay,

Best are

Shen and Zhao after thier Long Program

Miki Ando when she realized she won

Mao Aasda's face after landing her final combnation beautifully

Thomas Verner landing the second quad

Dubreil and Lazon's lift at the end of thier freedance right on the words "at last!"

Miki Ando's SP

Mao Asada when she realized that Miki had won

Takahashi's freeskate and his reaction to his scores. (funny, i though he would be dissipointed after not winning. i was)

Worst:

Rena falling on both triple axels

Joannie Rochette messing up in the short

Yu-Na Kim falling back to back (she looked so hurt)

Kimmie not skating perfectly

Sasha Cohen not being there

Takashi not winning

What on Earth are you talking about. Takahashi had a BEAUTIFUL Short Program and THE BEST OVERALL FREESKATE. Where exactly did he "tank"? Joubert made MORE mistakes than Takahashi, which negates his supposed technical superiority.

Actually, Brian was NOT clean in the Short Program as he put a hand down on his Triple Flip. Who was "most clean" doesn't matter, the points matter, but this just goes to show how you're ignoring what actually happened at the competition.

Uhhh...how were Miki and Joubert the best on both nights???

Going by the judges alone Miki was 2nd in BOTH the SP and LP and Joubert was 3rd in the LP.

So, again, how exactly are you not ignoring reality??? It seems to me that you're more complacent to go with the status quo than I am with "not liking certain skaters". Who I like the most has very little to do with how I feel people should have placed, as I force myself to be as objective as possible. Lambiel is easily my favorite out there right now but I was adamant that he did NOT deserve to be in the top 6 after the SP.

---------------

To reiterate my entire stance here:

Miki Ando did great with the jumps, GO MIKI, but won the Gold medal because Mao Asada was unfairly docked in her Short Program.

Brian Joubert did great with the jumps in comparison to most everyone else, GO BRIAN, but won the Gold medal because #1 - the judges felt the need to go with the status quo and give him unfairly high PCS as a result of his "dueness" to win this Title, and #2 - because Takahashi was unfairly docked in the Short Program.

Over and Out.

~Z

I hope you feel better now... because in the end, it doesn't really matter, does it? Both Miki & Brian won and that's the reality... they were the best, so sorry if that makes you sad... Mao wasn't unfairly marked and if there ever a skater who didn't really fall into the "status quo" its Brain, imo... but again, that's my opinion as I've never seen the memo on the "status quo." But I will agree that this worlds was his due... he earned it.

You can argue all day & all night but it doesn't change the fact that during the 2007 World Championships the best skaters on both nights won... And yay for them!

Once again, you're blatantly wrong. Miki and Joubert were NOT the best skaters on both nights. Why do you keep saying that??? How on Earth is that a "fact"???

It's pointless even talking to you, really.

here's an idea... if it's pointless, quit trying to make a point ;) just let it go....

*breathe in... breathe out...*

thanks!

on that note, i just became a poor communicator myself by straying from topic, so without further ado:

my favourite moment: not really a moment, but a series of moments. the buildup to worlds--the post nationals-pre worlds period where everyone was working their butt off, and we were hearing things from all over. someone was trying a new jump, so and so will do this-- it was exciting to be a skating fan again! we waited one year since the last one--

and everything was great (with the exception of s/s and p/t withdrawing) until...

my least favourite moment: when the last group of ladies warmed up. i knew it was over then. this is one of the first years when i didn't have a clear favourite, and while i cheered for all of them and didn't care who won, i was sad--another seven months without skating.

thank you all--skaters, fans (on and off the board) for making this season a memorable one.

Favourite:
Caro Kostner SP:clap:
Valentina Machei SP and LP:clap:
Lambiel LP:clap:
Mao Asada:clap:

Worst
Caro Kostner fina results and LP
Brian Joubert LP
Russia's results...i was very sad for Lutai, i loved him at Euros

I was sad for Lutai if he was the one who skated to Tchaikowsky's Violin Concerto. He started out like a house on fire but could not keep up the momentum. Also the cut of the music was not good.

Skaters you enjoy the most do not always win but you still like enjoyment as if they did.

My favourite moments:
Finally Brian WINNINGS (I was waiting it for a long time)
Zhen- Dzhao LP- it was so beautiful, it was ART on ice!

You na Kim- SP- wow!
Least favourite:
RUSSIANS HAVE NOT GOT MEDALS! It is awful, because I am Russian and it is my country, and I got into the habit that our skaters win...It is the biggist disappoint of this Worlds.
Also Carolina Costner LP- I chereed to her to win medal...
Petrova Tikhonov bad SP and successing withdrewing
Unscored marks to Domnina Shabalin in OD and there 5th place finally! I like very much there FD and I think that they merit something more!
And of course this Worlds bring me a lot of positive emotions, enjoing of figure skating! But season is over and I can't imagine, how I 'll be able to wait LONG 6 month to another season! I like figure skating VERY much!!!

me too i was very sad for Petrova and Tikhonov, they were one of my favourite couple! i really hoped they won a medal!

Favorite:
Unpredictable results in every discipline.
U.S managing to squeak through with a medal

Alissa's experience: not the greatest
Injuries

My favorite moments

My favorite moments:

-Breathtaking performances by Belbin and Maxim

most profound, sublime performances I have ever seen in ice dancing.

-Beautiful short program by Jeff Buttle

It just took my breath away. Good quality skating, steps, spins, and jumps with extremely delicate, subtle, and sophisticated choreography. He is a real artist. I just love his skating so much. I sincerely wish that he becomes completely healthy in the next season. Take care, Jeff.

-Post SP interview of Lambiel

He was extremely calm, nice, pleasant, and humble. Great attitude.

-When Lambiel announced that he would continue to compete.

He said that skating was not only about doing elements, but also about being connected to the audience by performing. It was really moving. He is such a great guy.
I also think that he has become cuter than the last season!

-Miracle Mao’s interviews

It was wonderful to see her positive attitude with smiles after SP. It was also very moving to hear her interview right after her LP performance. She was in tears of relief. She said that she thought that she had to do well because she was placed 5th in the short program. She also said that she was very happy that she could keep her own words that she would make up her loss in the short program. It was really touching to see such a little innocent, naïve girl having achieved an amazing job to keep her own words.

-Great humility in Miki

Right after winning the gold, the first thing that she commented in the interview was her genuine gratitude. She said in tears that she owed her achievement to her family, current two coaches, and supports from many other people who helped her go through bitter criticisms after the Olympics and other hardships including injuries.
On the next day, she and mao appeared together in various tv shows. When asked about her feeling towards mao, miki was very respectful as well as friendly. Miki described mao's skating as perfect and marvelous in every aspect. Moreover, according to what miki said in various shows, miki cares about mao as if she were her younger sister since they practiced together as little kids. Miki said in one of the shows that when mao does a great performance, she feels wonderful for mao, and when mao does not do well, she feels concerned about mao.

That is so nice to hear, Morninglight (your comments about both Mao and Miki). I am very impressed by the humility, fine manners, and work ethic of Japanese skaters. I loved hearing about Miki's concern and respect for Mao. Did you hear anything about how Mao regards Miki? I would like to think the respect and affection are mutual, since I think they are both wonderful, in such different ways.

I agree with you about Lambiel being cuter this season too. ;)

Japanese News Show Fluff Mao & Miki

Thanks for your comment, Spun Silver!

Please refer to the following fluff (in Japanese though) at YOUTUBE:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8hNEzsG-PY

Around 4:15-7:20

(When asked about the period of time they started to feel conscious about each other:)

Miki: Because we were practicing in the same club since our childhood, I did not feel “conscious” about her; instead, I have felt that we had been working together (as teammates).

Mao: Yes, since my childhood-- as I started to skate at 5 years old--and since I was 6 years old, we had practiced in the same club. We had worked together. So I am very happy that we can participate in championship(s) together (as well).

(Asked about her tears after finding out that she got the Silver):

Mao: I felt a little bit frustrated/regretful at first (laughter). But when I attended the medal ceremony, I felt that that was my best performance, because I had been placed fifth in the SP.

[Notes: Her "frustration/regret." She used the word "KUYASHI-KATTA" in Japanese. I don't know the right English translation, but "Kuyashii" is a common expression used when a person could not achieve what he/she had wanted to. Frustration/regret ("Kuyashii") is not necessarily against the opponent(s), but may be at him/herself].

(Asked about her tears right after the LP):

Mao: (It was because) I was very happy because I was able to perform in the way I wanted.

The broadcaster: Mao has just said that she was a little bit frustrated/regretful ("KUYASHI-KATTA"). You two must have such a wonderful relationship that she can say so in front of the Big Sister (i.e., Miki) (i.e., The commentator wanted to make the point that they must be so trusting each other that Mao’s honest comment would never hurt their relationship).

Mao & Miki: (laughter and nodding to each other). Yes, we do.

(When asked how she thinks about Mao’s comment:)

Miki: Because I have also had similar experiences, I can understand her feeling very well. When we practiced together as little kids, the coach made us to form pairs. (As a rule of this practice,) a pair of kids could not move on to the next jump until both succeeded in the same jump. We were always practicing together as a pair.

-----

The broadcaster: We asked Miki and Mao to write down on the board the other skater's qualities that they themselves think that they cannot compete with. Let’s start from the Little Sister, Mao.

Mao: (While showing her handwritten comments on the board that reads “Quad and femininity.”) I think her quad marvelous. I also think that she has such powerful femininity that I myself do not have.

The broadcaster: You would like to attain such femininity, wouldn't you?

Mao: Yes (smile).

The broadcaster: Next, the Big Sister, please.

Miki: (While showing her handwritten comments on the board that reads “Everything is perfect!!!”) In any jump, spin, and artistry, she has her own style(s) that are at high-level(s). I feel envious (laughter).

The broadcaster: It is wonderful that you guys acknowledge each other very highly.

Another fluff.

Backstage of the Japanese team (Oda, Takahashi, Nakano, Mao, & Miki). They appear to be good friends:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yac_0JwyCHQ

1:15- 2:10

(When asked about their relationships)

Miki: Skater Nakano (i.e., Ms. Nakano) is like my big sister and dear Mao is like my younger sister. When I see Mao working hard, I feel that I can work hard, too. I really envy Skater Nakano (i.e., Ms. Nakano) for her great spins. When I have troubles/concerns--- because we have been together since we were (at the) junior (level), she has helped me when I have had troubles/concerns. Even now, I call her when I face hardship.

Mao: It would be nice if we could (keep) work(ing) hard together (as teammates).

Nakano, Mao, Miki, Takahshi, & Oda (in concert): Let’s go to Vancouver! (laughter)
