Figure skating families / lineages?

Daniel Samohin's father & coach Igor was a Soviet pair skater. Daniel's brother Stanislav competed for Russia & may compete again in the future for Israel.

Hypothetically let’s say Nancy Kerrigan & Oksana Baiul could both have daughters – figure skaters eligible for Olympic Games in Pyeong Chang who could compete against each other making from it intergenerational contest with some additional intriguing undertones. Supposedly Irina Slutskaya & Lu Chen have daughters who skate so maybe we will have it … or has that happened already on some higher international level? Do you see potential for similar repeat to happen in next 5 years or so?

In a few years maybe between Stepanova/Bukin (he is the son of Andrei Bukin - Olympic Champion 1988) and Carreira/Ponomarenko (he is the son of Klimova/Ponomarenko (2nd at 1988 Olympics and 1992 Olympic Champions))

Siblings;
Maia Shibutani / Alex Shibutani - US ice dancers
Sinead Kerr / John Kerr - former Scottish ice dancers, Olympians
Marianne Haguenauer / Romain Haguenauer - former French ice dancers, Romain is now a reknown coach
Danielle Carr / Stephen Carr - former Australian pair skaters, Olympians
Kitty Carruthers / Peter Carruthers (though one of them is adopted, so not biologically related) - former US pair skaters, 1984 Olympic silver medalists

Skaters became families by marriage;
Jenny Meno / Todd Sand
Evgenia Shishkova / Vadim Naumov and their son, Maxim, a junior U.S. men's single skater

Tatiana Totmianina and Alexei Yagudin
Lu Chen and Denis Petrov

Andrei Bukin (father) and Ivan Bukin (son) both successful ice dancers.

Someone mentioned Piper & Alexe Gilles, their brother Todd was also a skater (ice dance).

Also the Pottenger brothers. Steven & Christopher I remember them because the won the Junior and Novice pairs titles at US nationals in the same year (2003 I believe).

What about the Baldwin family. Whenever John Baldwin competed, the commentators would always start talking about his family's involvement for years in figure skating and the camera would pan over the audience and focus on a very handsome older man (possibly his father). I think I recall them talking about John's siblings competing (as well as his parents).

On the sibling front, I am surprised that nobody has mentioned Mai and Mao Asada. Or Maia and Alex Shibutani. Or Isabelle and Paul Duschesnay. Or Isabella and Anastasia Cannuscio.

EDIT: Sorry, blackey. Just noticed that you had mentioned the Asada sisters.

EDIT 2: Thank you Crossover for pointing out that you mentioned the Shibs.

(I'm not doing well at this, am I?!)

Amber and Alissa Czisny.

Another set of twins: Melyssa and Vanessa James.

By the way, I asked a question about twins in what was formerly the "Stupid Questions Thread" over in the Reference Forum a few weeks ago:

So, if anybody can think of an answer...

Oh, just remembered some golden oldies.

1952 and 1953 Ice Dance World Championship runners up Joan Dewhirst and John Slater (married). And their son, 1976 Ice Dance Junior World Champion Nicky Slater.

1953 Pairs World Champions Jennifer and John Nicks (siblings).

It was seeing them when making out my predictions for Canadian Nationals that reminded me that I wanted to ask that question. ;)

Well, I mentioned Maia and Alex in my post. :) I almost forgot about the 1992 Olympic silver medalists.

:palmf:

That's twice I was caught out by thinking of names and just searching for their surname on the pages. But it missed the Asadas and the Shibs because they were only mentioned by their first names.

Next time I'll not be lazy and I'll just read through everything again.

Sorry.

Yuna Kim also started skating because of her older sister. Her parents also enjoyed skating, especially her mother who was big fan of figure skating.

Doesn't Max Arron's sister skate? I swear there's a girl with the last name Arron. I assumed she was Max's sister. I saw Tiffany and Johnny Stiegler perform at Junior Worlds way back in 2001.

His sister was also on the national podium a few times. Madeline Aaron. They have the same smile! I think you will really like her mrrice, she's a ballet dancer as well and it shows in her skating!

Eteri and her daughter, Diana.

and, of course, not actual blood relatives, but Tarasova & Morozov :hap93:

In Finland Lindfors has (according to some article) family 4 skating kids. Viveca is the oldest, I suppose. She has two skating sisters and a brother, so may be there will Lindorses in international competions in future many years.

Kiira Korpi as well as Laura Lepistö had both started skating because of they both had an older sister who skated. Some people say Kiiras's sister would have been more talented, but she was not so ambitious and patient as Kiira.

I don't think ice dancer Chris Reed has been mentioned yet. He skated with his sister Cathy. Their sister Allison was also an ice dancer. One of my favorite brother/sister pairs were Johnny and Tiffany Stiegler. We also have singles Michal Brezina and his sister Eliska, and Jorik Hendricks has a sister Loena who had a great showing at the Europeans. I'm sure there's more I can't think of right now.

ETA: Peter and Kitty Carruther, 1984 Olympic silver medalists.

Johnny and Tiffany Stiegler have an older sister Stephanie Stiegler who skated pairs with John Zimmerman before he teamed up with Kyoko Ina.

Also no one yet has mentioned two sisters from Norway who are currently competing in singles: Camilla Gjersem and Anne-Line Gjersem.

Other sisters are Swedish singles skaters Viktoria Helgesson and Joshi Helgesson, who were coached for many years by their mother Christina Helgesson, who was also a figure skater. Victoria has retired, but Joshi is still skating and is now coached by Brian Orser.
