Figure skating families / lineages?

Oh I don't think anyone has mentioned Anastasia & Isabella Cannusico. Side note: Isabella is engaged to Anastasia's ice dance partner, Colin McManus.

I did!

On the sibling front, I am surprised that nobody has mentioned Mai and Mao Asada. Or Maia and Alex Shibutani. Or Isabelle and Paul Duschesnay. Or Isabella and Anastasia Cannuscio.

EDIT: Sorry, blackey. Just noticed that you had mentioned the Asada sisters.

EDIT 2: Thank you Crossover for pointing out that you mentioned the Shibs.

(I'm not doing well at this, am I?!)

But, as you can see from the whole quote, I can relate to you not spotting it. ;)

And I feel such a fool for not realising just how much Colin's life was entwined with the Cannuscio family.

I knew Isabella and Anastasia were sisters. I knew Anastasia and Colin skated together. I knew Colin was engaged to Isabella. But, my brain just hadn't put all the connections together! :drama:

So, thank you for putting the pieces of the jigsaw together for me. :thank:

Ksenia Makarova is daughter of olympic bronze medalists in pairs, Larisa Selezneva and Oleg Makarov.

I discovered this one while working on my picks for the European Youth Olympic Festival. Alexander Majorov from Sweden has a brother Nikolaj Majorov who skates in Juniors. Both are coached by their parents Irina Majorova and Alexander Majorov, who I believe were also skaters.

The Selevko brothers from Estonia (Aleksandr and Mihhail)
The Belohradsky brothers from Czech Republic (Matyas and Jiri)

Papa Majorov was a skater under Mishin. Before moving to Sweden he was Yagudin's first coach. Mama is a ballet and dance teacher.

Have the Papp siblings been mentioned? Beata, Bettina, Benjamin and Bela are/were all competing internationally for Finland.

Swedish sisters Isabelle and Angelica Olsson. Isabelle just coming back from injury, first place at Dragon trophy today

Justus and Kalle Strid. Justus, born in Sweden, switched to Denmark where Kalle was his coach  Kalle now coaching in US I think.

Jason Brown started skating because he wanted to do everything his older sister Jordan did. They enrolled in Learn to Skate when Jason was three and a half.

Ashley Wagner's younger brother Austin was also a competitive figure skater, until 2010 when he, a 16 year old, competed in the Novice Men's category at US nationals, and a 10-year-old named Nathan Chen won it. Austin retired.

Interestingly, that was also the year Ashley lost, by one place, a chance to represent the US at the Vancouver Olympics. She did re-evaluate her career then, and even more the next year. But those losses increased her desire to show her love for the sport and continue competing, as opposed to going to college and having a "normal life," as she said.

Also, Sandra Bezic and her brother Val were 5-time Canadian Pairs champions from 1970-74 and placed 9th at 1972 Olympics.

Isn't Junior Champion Aleksei Krasnozhon coached by his Father? Does that count?

Thanks for the correction and the info snowflake! I always like the interaction between Alexander and his mom in the kiss and cry. Hoping Nikolaj has a great FS at the European Youth Festival today!

Are we counting couples? Because I just found out a good one from the Bavarian Open thread.

Luca Lanotte's girlfriend (and mother to his son), Eve Bentley, is one half of the partnership that won the 2000 British Junior Ice Dance Championship (which was the only time the British Championships were held here in Northern Ireland).

I saw Corey Circelli at Canadian Nationals in the AdvNov Men's and Dance. Extremely talented skater and coached by former British Junior Dance Champion Andrew Hallam (competed with Eve Bentley, g/f of Luca Lanotte and Mum to their son Giacomo).

Thank you La Rhumba :thank:   :points:

Has Jeffrey Chen, Karen's brother, been mentioned yet?

He is an ice dancer. IIRC, 2016 U.S. juvenile champion and 2017 intermediate silver medalist.

He and his partner get choreo from Christopher Dean, who sometimes tweets photos of himself with Jeffrey and Layla.

Isn't Junior Champion Aleksei Krasnozhon coached by his Father? Does that count?

No, Krasnozhon's father is a physician in Russia.

Ashley Cain's father, Peter (who coaches Ashley and Tim LeDuc), skated pairs for Australia with his sister, Elizabeth; iirc, they were in the 1980 Olympics....

Krasnozhon is coached by Ashley's parents, Peter and Darlene Cain.

In case CL_fan has not chimed in yet re Darlene Cain, she was a Canadian ice dancer. (Maiden name Darlene Wendt, as she used to be known when competing.)

... ETA: Peter and Kitty Carruther, 1984 Olympic silver medalists.

Kitty's son B.J. Conrad was a competitive skater. U.S. junior collegiate champ in 2015.

Siblings; ...
Kitty Carruthers / Peter Carruthers (though one of them is adopted, so not biologically related) - former US pair skaters, 1984 Olympic silver medalists ...

I believe both Carruthers siblings were adopted? (Not biologically related. Separate adoptions.)

Thanks Ice Coverage, I clearly wrote down the wrong name. I was actually thinking of Andrew Torgashev. Andrew is coached by Artem Torgashev who I'm guessing is either his father or uncle. Is that correct?

I mentioned Andrew (in Post 11) but I did not know his father's name since I don't follow Russian skating. That is his father. His mother also skated for Russia, but I do not know in what capacity and do not feel like Googling:biggrin:

Yes, he's coached by his parents.

I don't think Liza Nugumanova and her cousin, Andrei Kutovoi, were mentioned yet. Her grandfather Oleg Nugumanov is a coach as well.

The Heiss Family were all skaters, right? I know that Carol had a Sister ( Nancy ) and a Brother (Bruce) who were also skaters. There was also the Owen Family who were tragically involved in the US Team Crash in 1961.

Hayes Alan Jenkins, the 1956 Olympic men's champion, is married to Carol Heiss, 1960 Olympic ladies champion and 1956 Olympic silver medalist. His brother, David Jenkins is the 1960 Olympic men's champion.

Canadian brother-sister pair Otto and Maria Jelinek won worlds in 1962. Otto was a member of Parliment from 1972 to 1993.

Wasn't quite sure where to post this, but it seems that the LINEAGE thread makes sense. Just received my April copy of International Figure Skating magazine. There is a short but interesting article on Elizabeta Kulik. She talks about what it's like to be coached by her famous parents. Here are just a few things she mentions:

She is coached by her parents but says the arrangement is mostly drama free and skating stays at the rink. Her father (Ilia Kulik) is able to separate the role of coach and parent in an instant. She is now aware of her parents' legacy but not familiar with their programs. She says she has seen just a few tidbits of their Olympic programs (Gordeeva two-time Olympic pairs champ and Ilia Kulik 1998 men's Olympic gold).

She finished 8th at the last U.S. Nationals. People do have a lot of expectations because of who she is, and she is flattered by comparisons that are made to both of her parents. People have said her jumps have the power, height, and strength of her father's jumps; and she has the same grace on the ice as her mom...As far as technical content, her Dad wants her to start working on the 3A. He thinks she is strong enough to do it. She also wants to work on her combinations -- a 3-3 and a
3-jump combination.

Her dream is to go to Worlds and the Olympics.
