Free Dance is On Now! (10:30am Sun)

I'm thinking REALLY hard, lutzskate, because G&G weren't ice dancers and they never skated to that music...

But thanks for the comparison! Sounds like another awesome FD from V&M.

lol...sorry for the mistake. I went back and edited my original post. I was just so blown away, my brain couldn't think straight!

Moir/Virtue have improved so much from this time last year it is amazing. This time last year they were great but they only barely got 2nd at Skate Canada in a not-that -strong field this time a year ago when the top Italian team had a huge fall in the OD, the top Italian team who are a bottom end top 10 team in the World would have blown them away otherwise. Later that year in their other GP event they were 4th, with that same Italian team staying on their skates and beating them by a wide margin. Now a year later look where they are, amazing.

I do hope Melissa will be alright...

 for V/M though!!! Rather superficial question, but what was Tessa wearing?

But wasn't this a weaker field than last year's?

Yes this was an even weaker field then last years. However the dance field is weaker then last year with the Bulgarians and Dubreuil/Lauzon gone, so relative to the field that exists it is probably about the same. The point is they barely beat a team like the top Italians (not the ones here Faiella/Scali) even with a horrible fall by the Italians, and would have been beaten handily otherwise. Now you see where they are, you see how far they have come from that point.

Yahoo News has pictures of Melissa's fall up... so I'm wondering if we'll get a news update on how she is soon

my dad - he's a med tech - was looking at them and said judging by the pictures her color seems good so that's a good sign that she's breathing fine... so I guess that's something...

first article - http://www.knbc.com/sports/14507311/detail.html?rss=la&psp=sports
nothing we don't already know....

No update on Melissa at this time according to CBC. They said she appeared to hurt her ribs. They will update as soon as the information is available.

The main CBC network just showed a clip of G&P's fall before the FD, and it's very reminiscent of D&L's fall at the 2006 Olympics...if not scarier. Just a warning for anyone who hasn't seen the fall yet. I certainly hope she'll be okay.

I just found out about Melissa and Denis. Thank you for all the posts and information. This is devastating news. They will be in my prayers.

I only just caught the tail-end of a CBC comment that seemed to be positive news about Melissa near the conculsion of their broadcast.

I saw in on Country Canada this morning. It was certainly scary looking. I thought it looked worse for him, but obviously she was more hurt. It was nice to see all the other dancers trying to help out right after the fall.

I'm not sure if she ever lost consciousness. You could see her moving a bit when they turned her over. She seemed to be breathing rather hard, and it looked like she was crying when they were wheeling her off the ice. I hope they're both OK.

Virtue and Moir were stunning. They definitely belong in the big leagues. I was not convinced by this program when I saw the test skate video, but seeing it here changed my mind. Lifts were all stunning. I'm still not in love with the vocals in the music, though. I actually find them kinda distracting and uneccessary.

Boy Cappellini and Lanotte are a pretty team. Still a few rough patches, but I enjoyed the dance.

First of all, best wishes to Gregory/Petrikov (sp?). That was an awful fall, and i hope she is doing well. Thought it was great that Capellani/Lanote (sp?) were so helpful. Dennis must be so shaken up right now, I hope he doesn't feel guilty. I only saw three teams skate, thatk's to CBC's coverage, but I was impressed. The French team had lovely lifts, obviously the influence of Dubreuil/Lauzon, but I was not really that entertained. They've got a lot of potential. The Italians impressed me beyond belief. I had never seen them, but they have fantastic expression. As for Virtue/Moir, I have nothi ng to say. Absolutely spectacular. These two will be incredibly hard to beat this year, and i'll be interested to see if Delobel/Scunfelder (sp?) can hold them off this season. They have two incredible programs, and have improved immensly during the off season. Tracy Wilson was speachless on the CBC coverage. I can't believe V/M's scores, even though they deserved every point and more. Wow.:bow:I think they'll break 100 in the free and 200 overall this season.

Okay kind of out-of-place reply, but first off I'm glad Melissa is recovering well and she and Denis are planning to compete at Cup of Russia (or at least that's the latest info I've read, hope it's right), and of course I was absolutely amazed by Tessa and Scott's Free Dance, it was breathtaking. I downloaded it as soon as I got home from Quebec City and have watched it countless times already :) It's also great that there was no commentary during their dance, it makes it that much nicer to watch!
Anyways, back to the point (or I'll drift off indefinitely!): I was wondering, was the dance medal ceremony broadcast? If not the case, this might sound odd, but does anyone who watched the medal presentation live and in person recall hearing a faint singing of the Canadian national anthem while it was played for Tessa and Scott? I might be imagining this, but I thought I heard the lyrics in French coming from the crowd, and I was hoping to check this on video.
While I'm in the anthem thing, was the final finale broadcast? As in Marc Ferland singing the national anthem?

Thanks!!

Kypma
