Notice Tarasova said "OUR team skated stronger"

Therein boosts my claim that Tatiana is not an unbiased commentator. She advised DomShabs to ditch their planned FD and do the "Masquerade" one instead. She has a close involvement with DomShabs and in no way, shape or form can be said to be 'fair and unbiased' when it comes to DomShabs' close competitors.

BTW, Isa Krisa is a long-time poster on other boards and has proven herself to be even more violently anti-US than she claims me to be anti-Russian. The only US skater she ever liked was Sasha Cohen, but even that dimmed when Sasha broke with Tarasova.

My favorite male skater (since 1998) was Evgeny Plushenko, and my favorite pair in recent years was Berezhnaya/Sikharulidze. IMO, no Russian pair since then has come close to creating the magic B/S did when they skated. I also liked Elena Sokolova, and was sad when she couldn't seem to maintain the level of skating she showed in the 2002-2003 season.

So I am not anti-Russian, but I do not like DomShabs, and I particularly dislike their FD this year. Their best FD of the past 3 years was "Waltz of the Spirits", their Olympic program. Last year's was too frenzied, and this year's is following in the same tradition, with excessive head- and arm-flinging and generally sloppy skating (mostly on his part).

Maxim had a inflammation in his left knee and was bothering him during competition, that could explain what happened with twizzles in OD. health wise maxim had a terrible with two operation in last six months. I am glad he is still doing so well.

I did not know there were 2 operations. I only knew of one. When were the two. I think one was 2 weeks before Cup of China.

Those who are laughing at Dom/Shas' costumes are only showing their ignorance of historic and literary facts:

“Ball Maskarad” is a play written by the famous Russian poet Michail Lermontov, during the first half of 19th century.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mikhail_lermontov.jpg

Lermontov’s play “Maskarad” in 1941 was made into a rather famous, till this very day, movie of the same name, to which Khachetourian has written “that famous” piece of music.

The plot of the play is similar to “Othello”. At a Masquarade ball, a Wealthy Nobleman is unsuspectingly faced with a case of mistaken identity and is lead to believe that his young innocent wife is unfaithful. The end is deadly.

The proper costume for “Nina” the leading lady, given the “time” and the “movie” is as following (foto-cut from the movie).
http://images.yandex.ru/yandpage?&p=0&text=Маскарад 1941&rpt=simage

The “leading men” in this play were supposed to be dressed for a Masked Ball a-la Venetian style, and to represent “famous military, political or romantic heroes”.

and here is costume drawings used recently for the modern theater production of “Maskarad”.

(But for the life of me, I don’t know of any “images” or “moods” created by Chopin, nor of any of his lovers, including George Sand, which gave a slightest hint that a female character performing to “Chopin’s music” might be sporting a “K-Mart Toothpaste Smile” called "show all the 32" and moving about the ice with an eagerness of a cheer-leader who discovered “classics” only yesterday and by accident.)

Take the last paragraph of the above post as an example of Isa-Krisa's extreme anti-US bias.

I don't CARE what the background of "Masquerade Waltz" is. I don't like the dance, and I will never like the frantic, sloppy execution of it, and I don't care for his costume (and her previous one).

However, I do not intend to follow Isa-Krisa's example and make personal snipes at the individuals on the team, because that kind of venom does not belong on a skating board.

Very interesting. Thanks for the information.

What a great mental image! Tanith as George Sand, dressed in period costume.

Actually, in facial structure, there is a striking resemblance!

That's right...... because you still have explaining to do why you bluntly lied about TAT's "phrase" (stating "B/A are were better) which does not even exist "in-structure" in her TV commentary, not to mention "in sentiment".

:agree: the masquerade! if only they didn't get 7th on CD.....by the way what happened torino CD....i have no clue why they got 7th....

anyone notice my screen name and signature?
1795...the year of the masquerade....the signature...the naration during the glove part...<3
that is in figure skating history! genius...
wonder why they dont use their "signature move" in their program...maybe a waste of time..lol

:cool:they will:cool:

:clap::clap::clap:

I just hope they get to skate their programs flawlessly this year! They were skating wonderfully at the olympics. So fast, so smoothly...that compared to that this year seems to be a technically rough year for them. But thank goodness I now know what they're capable of, so come Worlds they'll be prepared! Btw, I think Olivier has a very nice long masculine body. He especially looks pretty nice when he's in a suit and tie.

I know! I noticed how you've carefully avoided explaining that error! Was it really willful on your part? I'm still hoping it wasn't!

The "drawing" of Sand is rather "Barbara Streisendish"......
The "foto" of Sand is not even close to Belbin.....:p
http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/2695...F17A14A6B244A7941282EAD3ADB04A55A1E4F32AD3138

But even if...... Tanith is a BEAUTIFUL girl with a beautiful smile...... but somebody ought to tell her..... "not to grin when Maria is dying"..... "not to grin during Gypsy passion"...... "not to grin when Amelie is sould-searching"...... and in general NOT TO GRIN as if she is a "home-comming queen" in a local suburbian high-school.

Someone ought to tell her:There is such thing as "Theatrics and Drama"...... have her watch Bette Davis in "All About Eve" or "Little Foxes" or something.....

You could e-mail Tanith and tell her yourself. I am sure she would love to hear from you. What is up with everyone using upper case lately, I can read no need to upper case me to death to make a point.

Thanks for excellent post! And just forget about the troll guy chuckm. There is ignore list button.

I don't think "chuckm" is a "troll". I don't like to call posters "trolls".... But I did think it was rather "interesting" that chuckm thought in another competition that a Judge from Russia and a Judge from Georgia (former USSR Republic) would "unite" to form a "Judging Block" in a woman's skating event, given the "Elena Gedevaneshvilly's Russian Visa issue"... which almost started a "war between Russian and Georgia"....

Darn, it always makes me laugh that people still believe in "soviet judging block", given all the tentions between former Soviet Republics...... "as in" Baltic states want Russians out and no Russian language spoken........ Ukranians don't want "Russians politics" amidst theirs.....

Of course, there is always such thing as "classic taste" in theatre and dance and performance...... and surely people in the "geography of Europe" have more in common...... But then the "geography" where the "classic taste" was formed are oh, about 10 centuries older than the "new world geography"...... So maybe the phrase "if you can't beat them, join them" or "wait till you grow up and become older and wiser" is up for consideration.....

Actually, in ice dance, I think there is a lot to that (minus the "older and wiser," LOL).

To most people in the U.S., dance means Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, if not Michael Jackson. Americans think all that theatrical over-emoting and the silly costumes that European ice dancers affect is -- well, silly.

In turn, Europeans think that Americans are Philistines who wouldn't know "art" if it slapped them in the face.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess (to quote the great American musical group Sly and the Family Stone   )

Fred Astair out of the bunch is one classy dude..... I'll take a turn about Cressent Circle with him anyday, if he can be resurrected. Gene Kelly? neah..... too "folkish". We had "75 years of Soviet Folkishnesh" and "dancing sailors and peasants".... we want The High Society back...:chorus:

Speaking of "emotional and flashy"..vs. "calvinistic puritan US style"... and the American Gypsy Rose..

"Come on and just do mimic
When you gotta gimmick

If you wanna make it,
Twinkle while you shake it

If you wanna grind it,
Wait till you refined it

Get yourself a gimmick and you too,
Can be a star!
"....

Please, make sure your next president is Catholic.... US needs "pagentry" and "pizzazz" in daily life, and on stage....

There was considerable evidence of nearly identical placement patterns on the protocols between these two judges as well as the Ukrainian judge.

Remember, these judges once judged for the Soviet Union. They were taught that the Russian skaters and teams are always the best and that's the way they judged then, and most of them still do.

These are former Soviet officials, not ordinary people from the countries they now represent, and they are not politicians. They do not have the same view of "things Russian" that the people in Georgia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, etc do.

"Classic taste" has nothing to do with it. They serve on the panels at the pleasure of Giaquinta and the head of the Technical committee, who of course is Russian. If these judges didn't support the Russian skaters, they wouldn't be getting as many assignments as they do.
