General Information: Olympic Figure Skating Individual Events

I love subscribing to Japanese TV during their Nationals....but I plug a laptop into the HDMI port of my big screen TV to watch them. Just curious. TVs in the US are dirt cheep... are they expensive in NZ or are you out of range of Rabbit ears or are service providers expensive down there? Other than Public Television, there really isnt alot on cable/ sattalite or Rabbit ears to watch so I use rabbit ears for Public TV. Mostly a vast wasteland for everything else.
I haven't owned a TV for 20 years. I watch content on demand occasionally at a friend's house - they have a huge 4k TV. I've asked them to record all figure skating coverage for the Olympics. But it would be nice if I happen to have a free evening if I could watch what's happening live, or a few hours later. I subscribed to Fuji on demand for Japanese Nationals and it was fab! A real treat after trying all those dodgy free streams.

If it werent for local news, Public educational Television and figure skating, my TV would grow cobwebbs. Yet I know there are people who sit down in front of the darned thing all evening....

What options are there for me to watch Olympics figure skating? I'm not in the US or Europe and I imagine TV coverage will be limited in NZ, though I did watch some ice dance at the last Olympics with commentary by some Australian lady with a thick accent (sorry, Aussies, I speak the Queen's EnglishπŸ‘‘). I do have a VPN and would prefer to watch on demand when I have time. Any ideas?
I know a few others have probably mentioned it, but I usually watch the CBC coverage for the Olympics. With my VPN on Canada, you can watch full events at your leisure without interruption. I know that there are probably other countries that do that as well, I've just usually found the CBC coverage easy to access.

Has anyone seen any info about live streaming of practices?
Personally, I was surprised to have actually see it on Peacock for an event. Dont know how many "hits" they recorded but I suspect the way things are we wont see it. The video providers are going to be busier than all get out as it is with everything that is happening.

it wont help but if they have some monkey spouting drivel during skates I will vent my frustration on the Peacock FB page. And I wont be the normally nice person I usually am (except when I yell at the TV during the news)

For the last several competitions, Peacock has had a "World Feed" without any commentary at all. Then, they have another feed that's from one of the channels, which features various commentators. I really enjoy watching sans commentary, then later I might go to the other one and watch a few with it.

Peacock coverage without commentary is the best $5 a month I've ever spent. I sure hope they plan on continuing that for the Olympics:pray:

Personally I cannot wait to see the multicam stream! (Not just with figure skating, it will be present with other sports as well, like Downhill skiing.)

Just wanted to let you know that I have just started making out a schedule post, and I made a discovery (no pun intended).

I went into the Eurosport Player to get the times of the broadcasts, and there is no Olympics coverage at all listed on the Figure Skating page on there.

Out of curiosity, I then went to the Figure Skating page on Discovery+, and there is no Olympics coverage there either. HOWEVER, there is a whole Olympics section on Discovery+. And on the Figure Skating page in it, I found the coverage.

So, unless they add an Olympics section in the next few days, it looks like we aren't going to get coverage on the Eurosport Player.

I was unsure about signing up to Discovery+ while I still had 4 days left on my Eurosport Player contract. But, it now looks like I will have to sign up when I still have 20 days left!

I have to take my hat off to them. If they are depriving winter sports fans that are still on Eurosport Player of access to the Olympics coverage, it is a pretty effective way to get them to switch to Discovery+.

My Eurosport Player app also shows nothing new for figure skating or Olympics in general. But when I clicked Schedule, it's all there from February 4. Do you think there won't be a separate channel for every sport?

If you log in on your computer, there's a whole section for the Olympics so I think we're good. (I'm in the EU so I don't know if it's different in the UK. Bummer.)

The Eurosport Player has been updated in the hour since I posted my previous message.

An hour ago, there were four tabs at the top of the pages:

Now there are two tabs:

The old tabs are now sub-tabs under "Home". And there is a similar set of sub-tabs under "Olympics" (obviously, there is no "Australian Open" tab there; in it's place is an "On Now" tab):

As with the "All Sports" tab in the main section, clicking the "All Olympic Sports" tab produces a drop-down menu listing the pages for the individual sports. Here is the Olympic Figure Skating page:

https://www.eurosportplayer.com/olympics/sport/figure-skating

So, I was too quick off the mark! :p

Well, at least I don't have to worry about signing up for the new service this week before the Olympics start. I have enough things to do before then! :drama:

Funny how the Beijing tab hasn’t shown up in my Eurosport Player until now (it was mentioned in the app update on iOS three days ago already!).
But I *could* see all figure skating streams listed for the days already in the schedule (including the aforementioned multicam).

I wish the Player would die a quick death and everybody gets transferred to discovery+ sooner rather than later. From what I remember from the Summer Olympics, the discovery+ app was much better, easier to use, better navigation etc.

Am I understanding it correctly that here I'd be able to watch EVERYTHING live? As in all team events and all individual events and all groups? I just want to have one reliable source and I'm definitely willing to pay in order to be able to watch everything properly live.

EDIT: Messaged them on the live chat and got the reply of "All skating content from the Olympics will be covered".

Where are you located? The Eurosport Player works in most of Europe and it’s great. Everything is shown live and on demand as well.

Mine has also only updated today. I don’t care - happy I won’t need to look for streams and hope the quality is good when I cast them to my TV. It’s on in a little over three days!

I'll be honest with you, I've gotten out of the habit of looking at the the full schedule pages. I normally just go to the pages for the individual sports.

Hear, hear!

They are dragging it out far too long. I get the impression that Discovery don't want to make any more changes to their services until the merger with Warner Media is completed. And then they can bring Discovery+, the Eurosport Player, and HBO Max all together in one go.

Am I understanding it correctly that here I'd be able to watch EVERYTHING live? As in all team events and all individual events and all groups? I just want to have one reliable source and I'm definitely willing to pay in order to be able to watch everything properly live.

Yes, everything is LIVE on Eurosport Player / Discovery+.

The listings for Eurosport's linear channels only go up to 14th February at the moment. There is LIVE coverage of all the segments, BUT it is not complete coverage. For a few of the segments, the linear coverage will end before the segment finishes to show other sports. And on some days, the coverage switches from one channel to the other in the middle of the segment.

So, personally, I do think it would be worth paying for the Player / Discovery+ to watch everything in it's entirety.

If your TV is modern enough, it may have an Eurosport Player app. Or run the player app from other devices, like an AppleTV box, Nvidia Shield TV Pro or PS4 and so on.

It really doesn’t matter which option you go for, as long as you have a decent internet connection, the quality of the stream is top notch even with casting over wi-fi.
I prefer the player over watching on the linear channels; high video quality and the option to listen without commentary (that alone is worth the money, IMHO. I have zero tolerance for commentary.)

We got a new LG recently and it has lots of apps, but I couldn’t find the Player when I looked. I’ll check again. It does connect nicely with my phone via Apple TV or an LG function, I’m not sure.

Firstly, apologies for not doing this for the other events that were broadcast on Eurosport this season.

This was not an easy one to do. The BBC do not specify what exactly they are showing on their TV coverage on BBC1 and BBC Red Button 1. So, for the moment, I have only included the broadcasts of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and the figure skating documentary series that is being shown on BBC3, β€œFreeze”.

When I have time tomorrow, I will edit in the times for the broadcasts for those days that there is figure skating happening. They might be showing figure skating during these broadcasts, or they might not. We just don’t know. But, better to include them in this post, just in case.

As for Eurosport, I have only checked the schedules for British Eurosport so far. To be honest, it’s that long since I last did a TV schedule post that I can’t remember how I did it. But, I will try to work it out tomorrow, and if I do I will start adding other variations.

The three additional linear channels (Eurosport 3, Eurosport 4 and Eurosport 5) have not launched yet, so I cannot check what they are showing. But, given how much figure skating is being shown on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, I think they will be concentrating on other sports.

Hope this helps
