General Ladies Discussion (was original Ladies LP thread)

My comment was in response to Yuna wouldn't have tons of crazed fans if she weren't a top skater. Of course you need to establish yourself to rise to the fame, hence armada of followers. But good to know very enlightened fans here support and love skaters regardless of their resume.

But my point was - I was criticized for saying that winning is exciting. The same criticism should be aimed at the Yun-a fans who are only Yun-a fans because she wins. And oh, the 8:12 arena going silent -- sorry, that IS spooky.

I don't think you were criticized for saying winning is exciting. I think you were criticized for saying that since your team had no chance at any medals, there was no point in watching. I'm pretty sure most people think winning is exciting but many also think that winning is exciting no matter who is actually doing the winning, if that makes any sense.

Sorry, but I believe no one criticized you for saying winning is exciting unless I missed something. Yuna fans remain her fans whether she wins or not. She's already achieved so much. You talk about her being dominant spoiling the sport, but how many times did she lose? The same goes for Michelle, Sasha, Irina, Mao, etc.
Do you really believe it's that unreasonable for the home crowd to have momentary (and collective:biggrin:) dissappointment when their skater just lost? Judging by tons of endorsement deals she's landed since her loss at gpf, they don't care as much as you seem to imply. It's not like Yuna had to make public appology which is so passé.

Plus, even if you like to root for your "team," your team doesn't have to be the same as your country.

Look at all the fans Tugba Karadimir  has who have never set foot in Turkey.

I agree with Wrlmy. Maybe Yu-Na's fans initially started supporting her because of her success, but her last couple Worlds and 4CCs have not been fantastic. They obviously adore her no matter what, and rightfully so. Can you imagine how inspirational she is to them? Coming from a country where skating isn't necessarily popular, she followed her dream and worked her butt off to achieve it. I think it's unfair to judge them by calling them "crazed".

Maybe we should have 2 threads for the Ladies LP one for competition discussion and one for whatever.:frown2:

And shouldn't some of them still be excited and happy for her good skate, not all get silent just cause she didn't win?

That's enough of this. The 4CC ladies LP is what the thread should be about.

Yes, that's why the crowd resumed cheering and clapping after about 3 seconds.

And this IS about the 4CC ladies LP. It's about how BORING it will be because it's just impossible that anyone other than Yu-Na will win.

But my point was - I was criticized for saying that winning is exciting. The same criticism should be aimed at the Yun-a fans who are only Yun-a fans because she wins. And oh, the 8:12 arena going silent -- sorry, that IS spooky.

I'm sorry, I'll refrain myself until ladies' LP starts, after posting this.:)

Particle Man, I've read all of your posts in this thread and your point was not that... I don't think anybody will deny winning is exciting. Your point was more like 'if there is no winning, what's the point? if my team doesn't win, the sport sucks.' And can you name any Yuna fan here who are only Yuna fan because she wins? Because I don't see any.
And about arena going silent, they were just speechless in my opinion. It happens when something shocking or unexpected happens. Maybe you didn't see it because the clip didn't show what happened afterward, but the audience got calm after a while and had peaceful and not so problematic medal ceremony. It was not like the audience were being rude for the winner and boycotted or booed or whatever of that sort.
But if you still find it spooky, okay.

It is not true that Yu-Na fans in korea will not care whether Yu-Na wins or not. Yu-Na will have to win to keep her fans, and endorsements. GPF lose was taken as a required step toward a greater success, as that was how it was explained.

Yu-Na and Mao maybe the same age but they are completely different type in metabolism. Yu-Na is still growing physically, as Mao is in plateu since 2 yr ago.

Oh, c'mon, give them some slack. Yes, some of these Korean fans annoy me too, but as another poster has already said, they never had a top skater like her and probably never will after she retires. It is not like Japan, who has no shortage of amazing skaters and will continue to produce more as long as figure skating remains popular in that country. So, knowing that probably makes them (some Korean fans) feel obsessive about their skater (no plural here) and I can understand that. Besides, I wonder, if she would have been this popular in her country if she weren't pretty. For them, she is not just another athlete with international accomplishments. Anyway, I think you can be a little relaxed about it.

no worries, I'll edit in a link to the actual LP discussion to the original post once it gets going

I wish IceNetwork would reveal the Ladies' LP planned elements sheets. I was curious to know if Joannie Rochette planned on unleashing the 3Lutz+3toe combination she apparently now has in her arsenal. She turned the 3toe into a double in the SP, but it would be cool if she tried it tonight, right off the top of her program where she normally does 3Lutz+2toe+2loop.

She could then attempt:
3Lutz+3toe
3flip
3loop
x3Lutz
x3toe+half loop+3Salchow
x2Axel+2toe+2loop
x2Axel

Although, if she performs her LP the way she did at Canadian Nationals, she will be fine. :)

What are you guys talking about all the time? I get here and see 7 pages - and thought that it has already started and that I miscalculated the time! Really, 7 pages before the competition even started? The men are never this lucky...

I don't think she will try a 3-3 tonight. She said in her interview that a 3-3 will have to wait until later in her career.

If she can tag 3t consistently, she should definitely go for Yuna or Kimmie's pre2007 layout. :agree:

to be honest I have no idea. apparently having fans is a bad thing.

She said in her interview that a 3-3 will have to wait until later in her career.

If she said that, then why does she plan to attempt 3Lutz+3toe in the SP? Was that a misprint on IceNetwork's part?
