Historical "firsts" | 2015-2025

Ekaterina Kurakova became the first Polish women's single skater to win a “small” medal (i.e. a segment medal) at the European Championships.
  • At the 2022 European Championships in Tallinn, Kurakova originally placed fifth overall. After the disqualification of Kamila Valieva by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in February 2024, Kurakova was elevated to fourth overall, and importantly, she moved up to third place in the Free Skate segment, earning a bronze small medal for the free skate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ekaterina_Kurakova
  • Prior to that, no Polish women’s singles skater had ever medaled — even a small medal in either the short or free segment — at the European Championships. Kurakova’s placement was the highest in history by a Polish female single skater.
