So, I just got back from the McDonalds Family Tribute on Ice in Galen Center in LA. The show my first live show and I was really impressed. The ice was small, but the seating was intimate so everybody had a great view.
opening- Mario sang a one of his big hits….i forget the name. Kimmie, Sasha and Mari, along with Jeff and Evan did a group number. Sasha stole the show, hitting every single note of the music and completely performing with her eyes.
solo numbers:

Marai- very sweet, gentle age-appropriate program…landed a huge 2 axel (she must be working on a nice 3 by now) and a cheated 3 loop. Beautiful pearl-like spin, but a little wobble on her spiral.

Evan- did the bille jean number first then later did a great rock number with the live band which was very good. He landed 2 3 flips in the second number, and I think 3 triple toes, one in combo in the first, but had some problems hanging onto them.

Tanith and Ben- Beautiful. The lifts and some the moves were taken out of the Chopin program, but was great just the same. They are so quiet on the ice and Ben really can interpret the music well. Tanith has a straight bob (blonde) which I am not very fond of.

Rena and John- typical program for them. I thought the song choice was bad because they showed really no relation to it… it was a rockish upbeat fun song but they looked very cool….like a russian pair. The crowd loved them though.

Ryan Bradely- brought the house DOWN with his Heartbreak hotel program. Backflips and all. gotta say this guy can perform. He looked like he was having a blast too. The second number was to Van Halen’s Jump which was also very great for him

Kimmie- skated to over the rainbow for the 1 billionth time. She certainly has her jumps back. She looked confident, happy and fit. Her spirals, spins and choreography looks the same but she was landing jumps all over. 3 salchow, a bunch of 2 axels, 3 loop…her layback has gotten worse, but I would rather see her landing her jumps.

Alissa- That great Don Quiote program! She is so good in this program. She become the character and as usual had lighting fast, centered beautiful spins. She fell on the 3 toe, but landed a very nice 2 axel.

Sasha- This girl is a star. Anybody who says she could not come back in 2010 should have seen her tonight. Skated to “what’s left of me” by Nick Lachey. She landed a perfect 3 toe and a perfect 3 salchow… her usual perfect spins, she hits every SINGLE note and emotion in the music. The audience was put under a spell. If the audience were judges she would win in 2010 hands down. Marai was cute and all, but no way could she come close to that star quality and bigger jumps that sasha has.

Thanks for the great review!:clap:

Not much chance any of it would end up on youtube, eh? :(

Thanks for the review. How lucky for you to get to see such a fine group of skaters. Nothing like this ever comes to my neck of the woods. Good news about Kimmie's jumps and of course as far as I am concerned Sasha has always been a star.

Great review!

Glad to hear that Kimmie is heading into the season on a high note.

Thanks for your review, sound like it was a great night of skating! I'm looking forward to seeing the show on TV. I'm really glad to hear that Kimmie and Sasha are skating really well!!!

Thanks for the report. As it's only a show, I would hardly begin to make projections based on how they skated in this show. Pressure-free, relaxed atmosphere, skating for the fans. Totally different from being judged.

Nice review!!!
Would you like to tell me about Jeff??? :agree:

oh i knew I has left somebody out! Jeff was great. Skated to a rock song and really sold it 100%. He was spot on with everything, great footwork and spread eagle as usual. I really love his skating and know that of he wanted to, he could stay on and win another world gold....but he looks very happy with one.

All the ladies are so cute, but this Evan looks very suspiciou, doesn't he?

Yes, thanks for the report.

You're so right about the small ice size. I'm rather surprised they could land any jumps with so little ice to build up momentum.

Looks like Sasha has a new hair cut? Looks adorable.

Wow, even from a distance, Sasha can fill up an ice rink. Beautiful performance. Thanks for the links.
