Sad and infuriating news regarding sport oversight, and the culture of figure skating.:angry3:
The police are investigating allegations of child endangerement of a figure skating coach, along with Prosecution offices of 4th and 15th Districts of Budapest. The official stance is that they can't disclose any names involved. Sorry I only have in Hungarian sources:

Unofficially, there has been reports against Gór-Sebestyén Júlia, 2014 European Champion, the most decorated Hungarian single skater since World War I. And apperantly the federation has helped sweep those under the rug until they could
More details in the link, hope google translate works:

Edit: sorry, the year for should have been 2004

The English translations were actually quite good, but the video didn't play in Canada. However, the second link, the article, did give the details of accusations of bullying by the coach. One point that wasn't quite clear in the translation: Was she a judge in the Olympics pairs event?

I'm hopeful there will be consequences this time. The claims and testimonies detailing her abuse are mounting while the fed is covering up. She really is a disgrace and has no place in any sport.

No, she just made a comment on Pavlova/Sviatchenko as the recently appointed figure skating department head of the sport club where P/S train. If anything, she used to be on tech panels but was never a judge, AFAIK.

No, she wasn't. The Hungarian judge at the Olympics was a man named Soós Attila.
I haven't checked what Google Translate would get you, but the article only makes mention of the fact that she, even while under investigation, has been selected tby a prestigious sporting club to lead the revival of their figure skating program, and has been asked for her opinion by media about the Hungarian pairs' performance at Milano- this tracks:cautious:, as she is still the highest profile ex-athlete who currently coaches.

Honestly, I don't look forward to telling my mom about this...when Júlia was competing, she meant a lot to us...It is always heartbreaking to have your happy memories tainted...

And those poor kids😔

:thank: and :console: for your mother. I remember Julia's name from the past, but not much else about her as a skater.

Is it right or a mistranslation, that the Hungarian Federation reduced the delay to complain to only one year after the alleged facts, which allowed them to dismiss some complaints? They're "worth" the French Federation under Didier Gailhaguet...

I had to check the year, because I clearly remember the rumors about Julia already years ago around the time Ivett Toth left her. It's sad that nothing has been done since then, although not surprising given how Hungarian fed operates.
Yeah rumors have been around...the fact that it took years to be any official investigation is all the more disgusting:(

Gailhaguet is a real piece of work. I recently watched a couple of documentaries about the 2002 judging mess in Salt Lake City -- couldn't believe his sleazy brazenness. :angry3:

From the largest independent news outlet from Hungary:
original article:

machine translated:

That is awful. And I have always wondered if Ivett Toth who showed so much promise, would have had a better career, had she stayed with Julia. I remember they parted so suddenly, and Ivett's results went downhill afterwards. Silly me, I thought it was the case of a teenager rebellion. Just shows that one should never rush to conclusions...

Update: the police concluded their investigation, and recommmend prosecution of Sebetyén Júlia for child abuse. Let's see what charges will be brought under the new administration....
