Isabella Gamez (February 1, 1999; Cape Coral, USA) and Aleksandr Korovin (February 15, 1994; Pervouralsk, Russia) are pairs skaters representing the Philippines. They were teamed up by Marina Zoueva and Maxim Trankov in 2021 and made their debut in the 2022-2023 season. In December 2024, Alexander received Philippine citizenship through special legislation for elite athletes. The pair is based in Sochi and also trains in Florida and Manila. They are coached by Dmitri Savin and Fedor Klimov, along with Sofia Evdokimova and Galit Chait for choreo and skating skills.

Isabella and Alexander are the first pairs skaters from the Philippines and Southeast Asia to medal in an international competition (silver, Cup of Nice, 2022), qualify for an ISU World Championships (2023), and compete in a Grand Prix stage (Cup of China, 2024). At Cup of China, Isabella also became the first female figure skater to represent the Philippines in a Grand Prix competition.

Isabella and Alexander's goals are to compete in the Winter Olympics and to inspire and train the next generation of Filipino skaters. If the pair qualifies for Milan 2026, Isabella will be the first female athlete of any sport to represent the Philippines in the Winter Olympic Games. (UPDATE- Gamez/Korovin did not qualify for the Milan 2026 games.)

2022-2023 Season Highlights video

Gamez previously skated with Griffin Schwab, Tòn Cónsul, and David-Alexandre Paradis. With Schwab she won the novice silver medal at the 2016 US Championships. With Consul she is the 2018 Spanish junior national champion and the 2018 Mentor Toruń Cup gold medalist. In 2020, Gamez and Paradis became the first Filipino and Southeast Asian pair to compete in an ISU competition. Korovin's former partners were Alexandra Minina and Alisa Efimova. With Efimova he took silver at the 2018 Skate America, gold at the 2019 Winter Universiade, and six medals on the ISU Challenger Series, including gold at the 2018 Nebelhorn Trophy and the 2018 Golden Spin of Zagreb.

From today's anythinggoe.com recap of the John Nicks Pairs Challenge:

"Isabella Gamez and Aleksandr Korovin of the Philippines placed ninth and also secured new personal bests in both programs (though they also remain short of the technical scores they need to return to Worlds). Their triple twist and throw triple loop received good grades of execution in the short program, and the elegant choreography prompted one judge to place them third for composition. They will need to fix the downgrades of Isabella’s triple salchow, and improve the level of their death spirals to move up, but they have the look of a high-ranking team."

Is the link in the previous post broken only for me? I had to edit it in the browser to open and see.
Three pairs are on the list, everyone is going to have a medal if the competition is not cancelled.

Ok, I think I fixed the link. Yes, only Beccari/Guarise, Gamez/Korovin, and Wozniak/Chtchetinina are currently entered.

Looks like the pairs event was cancelled as it no longer appears on the entries list.

Who did it better?
  • Gamez/Korovin at Four Continents, February 2024.
  • Kaganovskaya/Necrasov at Russian Test Skates, September 2024.
Personally, I love them both. :)

The pair has just confirmed they will be participating in the international competition at Trophee Metropole in Nice, October 16-20. Best of luck!

Great news! The Trophee Métropole Nice International Competition will be livestreamed on this channel.
Gamez/Korovin short program is tomorrow, Wednesday 16, at 19:00 local time/ 13:00 New York time.
Free skate session starts Thursday 17 at 20:05 local time/ 14:00 New York time.

Because of the schedule conflict with PH Nationals that they are unable to compete in smaller comps such as Tallinn Trophy (Non CS for pairs) or NRW Trophy yet they can still compete the last 2 Challenger Series which is Warsaw Cup & Golden Spin of Zagreb to get the CTES mins.

Although that it may be a long shot that they might be unexpectedly picked at GP France since they are able to met the minimum score but knowing Bella that she have other priorities other than to seized the opportunity to sharpen blades.

In the 2nd half of the season that they have the option to participate either Winter Universiad since Bella is currently studying Psychology part time or the Asian Winter Games before compete at 4CC.

Also there's an old article about approval of Sasha's citizenship application which he mentioned his talk with PHSU President Nikki Cheng about his interest in training children who are interested in the sport and members of the Philippine National Team when he retires: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ph...izenship-figure-skater-alexander-korovin/amp/

I would have to say that that I would entrust him for training the skaters with the jump technique over other local coaches especially there's are 2 novice skaters (a boy and a girl who showed a certain promise)

They're currently third in line for a GP spot. If two pairs drop out, then G/K should get an assignment. It's not such a long shot, since there are a few pairs still in recovery from injuries and not at their best, but it's yet to be seen if these pairs will hold on to their GP assignments.

It would be really exciting for the Philippines if Korovin does end up being a coach. I'm just a casual skating fan, but I've been watching his previous performances with Efimova and he never falls on his jumps, so there seems to be a solid technique there.

I think that the PHSU is fortunate to have Sasha because he came of the Moskvina School of Pairs Skating which he was mentored by Tamara herself hence the technique remains in him.

I remember that he also does take ballet as mentioned in the articles which I remember that the Philippines has a ballet school that was owned by the country's Prima Ballerina who is also the first foreign soloist to ever join Kirov Ballet (The Mariinsky Ballet which is the parent company of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet) that gave me a eureka moment and at a same time that smack my head out of annoyance since I realized about it just now.

Philippine Skating Union President Nikki Cheng said that they are doing Asian Winter Games in this article. Maybe this could be the first medal for the Philippines if they continue on this good progression??

I hope they are doing the last two CS Warsaw Cup and CS Golden Spin of Zagreb because they need the world ranking points unless of course they get a Grand Prix assignment, and hoping they do.

I understand she says the Asian Games are a possibility but does not confirm if G/K are entering. Either way, the AWG is one of the major ISU tournaments and will count for WS points and PB.
The pairs free skate at Nice just got cancelled, so unfortunately no chance to get tech minimums for worlds. So yes, the last two Challengers are looking more important than ever.

Congrats to Bella and Sasha for their silver medal at Nice!
It is their second medal in international competition, their first being also at Nice in 2022.
We can say...Nice is nice to them. :)
