Yeah, the IOC pretty much forced the ISU into doing the right thing, but I'm surprised none the less. The ISU is deeply influenced by Russia so.. good for them for doing the bare minimum, I guess.

Everyone except Averbukh toed the party line. No çompassion for the Ukrainians. Pluschenko wants peace but felt compelled to give a shout out to perpetrator Putin. Did we really expect any moral epiphany from Zhulin?

I understand why they are frustrated, but claiming that no one will be interested in figure skating without the Russian athletes just makes me sad. It´s outright an ugly thing to say to about the remaining athletes. I get that Russian audience and funding is important, but that they are banned from one event isn´t going to turn everything upside down. Besides, what about the fact that Russia isn´t dominating in the mens field? And they aren´t dominating in ice dance either.

There is no alternative, as some skaters (like already happened in other sports) would refuse to compete with Russians until this situation is solved.
That would be a worst outcome even for Russia and Russian competitors.
I would leave juniors out though as a message of hope in a better future.
So said I'm sorry for any Russian athletes that will see his work nullified by this crazyness.

Aleksandra Nazarova was probably in a shelter when a projectile hit a building on the main square in Kharkiv, one kilometer from her house.
Artem Darensky, Maksym Nikitin and Ivan Shmuratko cannot leave the country because men between ages of 18 and 60 are required to stay and fight. They all probably returned home from Beijing no more than ten days ago.

I personally won't watch because the competitive worth in ladies and pairs is greatly reduced. I won't stop to think how lucky the medalists are. I don't watch that kind of comps. But i'm in the minority, fortunately, for all those who are gloating.

I don't think too many people are "gloating", but I certainly agree that the level of competition will bring down a great level of excitement in the Women in Pairs' events.
