After the japanese nationals, Fumie Suguri was first place, followed by Asada at second, and Arakawa third, Onda was fourth, Nakano was fifth, and Ando was sixth.

For the olympic team:
For ladies, Fumie Suguri, Shizuka Arakawa and Miki Ando will go to Turin.
For men,Daisuke Takahashi will be going.

I wonder why they didn't send Yukari Nakano even though she won a grand prix final bronze medal and placed higher than Miki Ando in the Japanese nationals. I thought I read somewhere that the Japanese skaters would be guaranteed a spot on the olympic team if they earn a medal for the grand prix final?

Ando did not do so well in her last two events, but can see why the Japanese Federation still feels that she has a better chance of scoring well at the Olympics than Nakano does.

I assume you're referring to Kwan.

The difference with Japanese Nationals is that Miki Ando is not recovering from a serious injury. Fumie was, and she won the competition.

I hope the exact same scenario plays out for Kwan.
