Any predictions?

Goodness, what a huge roster! Is there a qualifying round?

I'll go with Katy, Binshu Xu and Danielle in the ladies.

MM:)

Yeah that is a huge roster. 42 girls! I don't know if there is a qualifying round or not, but I'm hoping so!

Hmm. Not a good start for Katy Taylor. Both she and Danielle Kahle had a 1.00 deduction. I wonder what for.

Go Binshu!

The 1.00 deduction usually indicates a fall.

Thanks, sylvia. I was wondering what 1.00 deduction means. Guessed something like that. Only 1.00 deduction on overall score? Was there any other required deduction on the fall also applied to Component scores?

Assuming Klimkin has his surgery, and the Russian Federation replaces him in Cup of Russia with another Russian skater, while they may give it to Timchenko to replace Skate Canada if he recovers in time, I'm hoping they assign it to Alexander Uspenski. Program Elements averaging a little over 6 sound very promising.

Also, Kiira Korpi of Finland holds a nearly 5-point lead after the SP. I'm looking forward to seeing her skate in the future as another of the very talented and, in my opinion, underrated Finnish Ladies team.

There will also be a minus 3 grade of execution on the element (unless the fall was on in-between stroking and not an element), or minus 2 if it was after the second jump in a combination.

Hypothetically - if a skater has a fall on a jump with a base score of 9 the result will be a 5. Am I correct? I don't understand the result if there was no actual jump but an attempt. More than half the score of the base is still valid!! Something is wrong here.

Katy!!!! from 12th to 3rd. That's the CoP for you. In the 6.0 system she would have moved up to 8th. Nice going for Kahle, too.

Joe

The CoP is going to shake things up for sure. Kiira Korpi only finished fourth in the long program, but she was a full 5 points ahead of everybody after the short.

Thanks for the links, Jaana. Kiira is a classic beauty! I see that she skated in the Santa Claus trophy the last three years.:)

Does anyone know how to pronounce KAHLE? Does it rhyme with Hayley or with Holly?

I believe it's pronounced like "Cal - lee" with the "cal" pronounced like California. Lol sorry for such a bad example, cant think of anything else to reference it to.

Thanks, Sk8Bunny.

You could have really confused everybody if you had said it rhymes with Halley, like in Halley's Comet. Almost everybody says "Hay-ley," but supposedly it's really Hal-ley (Hal rhyming with Cal). But I think the original family name of this 17th century British astronomer was actually pronounced, in the British fashion, "Haw-ley."

I assume Kahle was originally German, Kaele (a with an umlaut).

Don't mind me -- that's just the professor coming out. I can't seem to control him sometimes.

Mathman:)
