Just HOW will the U.S. teams be picked?

Who knows, maybe with all this talk of "no US women star" it will light a competitive fire under them and one of them might shock the world and pull off a medal

I think if Alissa comes in 1st, 2nd or 3rd she should go to the Olympics and someone else goes to worlds for her. Then Alissa's happy because she gets to go to the Olympics, the other skater is happy because she gets to go to worlds, and if the other skater is picked intelligently, she won't bomb due to pressure and we'll have 3 spots for worlds in 2011 :as gree: That's what they did in Japan with Akiko and Yukari.
I strongly suspect the winner of the Nats will be approved by the Chaommittee. However, the 2nd and 3rd placers will be strongly critiqued.

For me, that would mean Sasha and Rachael. Sasha will not skate Worlds which brings us back to which2 can get 13 points.

Did Sasha say she wasn't doing worlds? She's just in for the Olympics I understand, oh Sasha. And yeah I think Rachael and Ashley have the best potential to get 13 points at worlds, between Alissa, Mirai, and Caroline it's hard to tell, as they all can be pretty unpredictable score wise, although Mirai and Caroline fall less.

Rachael beat Yuna in the free skate at Skate America. That makes me more hopeful than before at least.

Yea, but that doesn't mean anything, because of two reasons.

1) Yuna probably won't skate like that at the Olympics.
2) Even if she does skate like that in the LP, Rachel still doesn't have a chance because of Yuna's point lead in the SP.

So, the only way Rachel can win is if Yuna bombs in the LP and SP which is very, very unlikely.............

Let's cheer for Rachael to get named to the Olympic team, THEN we can cheer for her to win a medal.

That's a good point, with Sasha in the mix, I don't know if she'll even make the team at this point. For some reason I think it will be Czisny or Wagner, and then of course diva. Grr

WOW. Does NBC know something we don't know. lol. At least they could have waited until after Nationals. Maybe the Committee gave NBC a heads up.

I don't think so...I think Rachael and Sasha are just the big names at the event so they will show them. They do that a lot on NBC when they are showing event coverage, while broadcasting the ladies' event they often go back to show the skates of Evan and Ryan regardless of how they do at the competition.

I hope no one is thinking that an American lady, including Sasha, can win the Olys.

What their job is at the Olys is to make an impression for the 2010 Worlds.

The NBC programming that RD posted is for the Olympics not Nationals. How does NBC know who will make the team if Nationals has not taken place yet.

So weird....we don't even know if Sasha will be healthy enough to compete the whole way through nationals....let alone the Olympics.

I can totally see a repeat of '06 happening, Sasha goes to Olympic practices, sees how amazing Yuna, Miki, and Mao are and then decides her injury is too painful and pulls out to avoid being humilated.

What do you mean by "repeat of '06?" Sasha didn't pull out of course. (And if you are talking about Michelle Kwan, her 2006 assignment and subsequent pull-out of Olympics was absolutely about physical injury. To my knowledge, nobody has ever caught Michelle chickening out in the face of tough competition. And--importantly--she pulled out in time to allow her replacement to get fired up and compete.)

If Sasha did get selected for Olympic team, got there, and then chickened out of the competition, her name would be mud forever among skating fans. Possibly sponsors also. You don't go for the Gusto unless you intend to follow through all the way once the opportunity presents itself.

Please refer to post #1500 at the "Sasha Updates" topic. :agree:
