so she was injured twice then ? meltdown at 4CC and then another injury at WTT meltdown ?
hard to believe all her injuries were at timing with non home ice
no she was clearly overhyped last season
still recalled the hype that she was the future Canadian in the next season and quadrennial
and how she crushed Sotnikova and Tuk in the rankings who were "finished" and that she was the most promising because she is done with all the growing :disapp:
And she got injured. Still placed 8th in her first Worlds. Hard to live up to hype when injured, or when given just one GP event.
What was Gracie's reason for not living up to her hype and placing "only" 6th at worlds? Not including Nationals, she has had 10 Senior events (not including Nationals) and hasn't won a single event (1 win in 12 events if we include US Nationals).
Even with injuries hampering her, in just 5 senior competitions (not including her Nationals), Osmond has a GP win and Nebelhorn win (4 wins in 8 senior events if we include Nationals).
Kaetlyn does 3T+3T in the SP. Lots of other ladies do that, too---there were 8 at Worlds 2013.
But there are some elite ladies who do 3F+3T or 3Z+3T or even 3Z+3Lo, and some of those ladies are capable of getting PCS scores in the 8s. Kaetlyn can get 8s only on home ice.
Kaetlyn is a promising skater and she is fun to watch. But saying she is a medal candidate is a bit much. She is coming back from injury, she hasn't competed internationally since October, and she is performing her FS for the first time before ISU judges. She doesn't have the technical arsenal, and her jump layouts in both SP and FS limit her point potential. Realistically, top 10 would be a good result for her.
Here are the current Seasons Best Short Program scores. I have added YuNa's Golden Spin score because she will surely be one of the top scorers at Sochi.
[73.37] YuNa KIM
73.18 Mao ASADA
72.24 Julia LIPNITSKAIA
69.45 Gracie GOLD
69.26 Ashley WAGNER
68.38 Adelina SOTNIKOVA
67.74 Carolina KOSTNER
66.03 Akiko SUZUKI
61.90 Valentina MARCHEI
60.32 Kaetlyn OSMOND
Polina Edmunds does 3Z+3T, 3F, 2A, so she could potentially score high too.
And here is a better comparison of where these ladies stack against each other from the 2013 Worlds as they were all assessed by the same judging panel :

Why is it better? That was last year. A lot has changed since then.
backlash to the overhype Osmond got last season
she was being bragged and touted to crush all the wonderkids and Gracie yet didn't happen at all[/
I think someone is more hyped than Scottie about Gracie. Lol
Why is it better? That was last year. A lot has changed since then.
I also don't think Li will necessarily place above Kaetlyn, as she would probably get lower PCS, and despite Polinas techincal difficulty, looking at the rest of her skating, I'd get a major headache if she beat a clean Osmond.
The Osmond hate/bashing/whatever is completly unnecessary. I don't see any major hype sorrounding her these days. And to be honest, she's not a threat for a medal, but I'm so glad to have her at the Olympics for the same reason I'm glad to see Jason there: she's the kind of skater that could get non-fans into this sport. A lot more than some of the supposed medal threats, I think.
Osmond would have won the Pewter Medalist in the US with those skates, and had trouble breaking into the Top 10 in Russia against their army of phenom junior skaters. She'd probably have been 4-5th at Japanese Nationals with those skates.
Top Skaters in Sochi have nothing to worry about regarding KO as long as they are relatively clean.
If they make mistakes then KO deserves to beat them if they are clean and she's able to rack up the points to do it, and that is as it should be...
KO is not known for her consistency, though.
She stood up at Nationals, but those skates were sloppy and shaky, and they are not well laid-out from a points perspective. Her jumps and spins are not first rate. Her speed and edges are good, but she gives off a sloppy vibe as she skates around. Everything seems unfinished and rushed, and I think there are a lot of better choices of music that she could have skated to...
Also, I'm not sure how great her "prospects for the future" are, because we see what is going to come out of Russia as we move towards 2018, and the US has some nice Junior (or newly Senior) skaters as well (Edmunds, Karen Chen coming up).
I think a lot of the skaters who progress past Sochi are probably going to have a rude awakening when one the next generation starts to move up to the senior ranks in droves.
agreed, Worlds tahts over a year ago
Osmond will play a key role in the team event, and will likely emerge from that as an Olympic medalist of some color. That's pretty much guaranteed.
Actually, Gracie Gold, Kaetlyn Osmond, and Julia/Adelina may all emerge as Olympic medalists from the team event. It'll be interesting to see if that impacts how the judges view them in the individual event.
