Carolina Kostner has withdrawn from the European Championships. Will she make it back for Worlds? She was the only one I saw as being able to stop a Russian sweep at Europeans. Anyone else who can stop it now?

Oh no, now I'm getting scared she is going to retire and we will not see her compete one last time 
I know some people think she has been going at it for far too long but I think the fact that she has stayed this long is a gift to us all and the sport, there's really no other lady right now with the magnificent elegance, maturity and artistry that she has, and she is also one of the few skaters with a pristine technique. Loena HENDRICKX, Alexia PAGANINI, Viveca LINDFORS, Mae Berenice MEITE and Laurine LECAVELIER are all maybes

Although I am gutted to hear this, I can't say I'm at all surprised.
In fact, I would have been shocked if she had gone to Europeans. Her latest injury (from when she fell down the stairs) is just too recent.
Even if she had been fit enough to compete, she wouldn't have been fit enough to challenge the Russians for the podium. So, better to take some more time to get fully recovered from both injuries, and put up a better challenge at Worlds.

I don't know, I think Loena may yet surprise us
I love her as a skater and I'll be also cheering for her as a representative of all small feds

I mean, we can't be sure if Stanislavia will Podium. Alexia looks strong and Loena had a great last season, I haven't seen her compete this year tho

I think Stanislava has proved this season at her every competition she can fight for podium. She is very consistent to have one or two errors in every competition and is very consistent in the game for podium (2nd to 4th place). Viveca Linfors beat her at Challenger, in fact.
But there will be more open field maybe, as we could expect. I think, Alina Zagitova has her worst outing and nationals and she will be better prepared for Euros, because she is a fighter. What can be different, is technical specialist (from other country than Russia), so in that case her underrotations could be called and even with better performance than at Nationals she still could end up with lower scores due to underrotations. I hope she will be fine, but she need to fix her jumps quickly, but she is capable of I believe.

I agree. I'm a bit surprised that she wasn't able to make adjustments to her programs as she had in the past. What hurt her the most wasn't the two falls, but that she wasn't able to get the loop and the toe in. She clearly thought about adding the loop to the second lutz and realized it wasn't going to happen. She might have been able to get a toe on the flip. But I guess if she was having an off day, she just wanted to salvage whatever jumps she could.

I agree! Also Loena came 5th at the last Euros, I have faith in her!

It’s not sure but I don’t see Alina bombing again like she did at Nationals, and Stanislava has the potential to be on the podium if she fight for it. Samodurova is quite consistent, so I don’t worry too much about her right now.

I'm not sure if anyone can stop the Russian sweep at this point, but I think Hendrickx is the best hope now.
Viveca Lindfors beat Konstantinova at Finlandia this season, albeit by 0.06 points. Paganini has the potential to put forth two good skates. And then there’s Loena and Mae-Berenice, who have both shown this season that they are not to be counted out, Loena especially. I like Stanislava (sue me), but she is definitely not a podium lock given her history of meltdowns and failure to break 200 points in international competition. Alina could bomb, too, though I predict she will be motivated from her GPF/Nationals loss to defend her title here. At this point, the safest podium bet of all the ladies is Samodurova imo.
So I think this competition is more wide open than meets the eye. It would be nice if Loena could grab a medal, but whoever skates the best should make the podium

Clean Loena (she's the best hope) will hardly beat a clean Samodurova (who has the lowest potential scoring among Russians IMO. I can see Konstantinova getting higher scores than her if clean). So basically there will be a Russian sweep this season if none bomb.

Wishing Caro a healthy and successful 2019. I hope she'll be healthy enough to be able to skate at the Passion Gala on the 4th of January.
Watched (in-person) Loena at Skate America and I think I was more upset than she was at how the judges underscored her SP.
JMHO: if GPF podiums were a barometer of Worlds podiums, then I'm predicting the Japanese Ladies will sweep the Worlds podium (they'll have home advantage bonus pts in Saitama) and possibly the Japanese will sweep the Men's podium if Yuruzu competes. For Ice dance & Pairs - I'm thinking the French & Chinese will dominate at Worlds.

The Japanese don’t have a strong enough 3rd man. Keiji is wildly inconsistent and has only shown strong competitions at nationals for the last two years.

Well, Belgian gymnastics getting better with every year on Worlds level. I hope Belgian FS will catch up too.
I'm going to late brunch now with friends and this making me to order Belgian waffles and mimosas.
