WOW. I can't wait to see the score sheets and performances. I assume Fumie had a fall, but geez - 8th overall and 9th in the LP?? She must have struggled throughout. I'm because I really, really like her.

GPF HO for Alissa!! Bet this is all good for the hinged boot manufacturer - hope Alissa gets a big contract right after she gets back on US soil. I have a vision of a bunch of lawyers in dark gray suits waiting for her at the airport.

OH Nationals should be fun!!

WOW.

Alissa winning isn't quite as much of a shocker as Suguri AND Kostner bombing in the same event!!! Oh boy, does this season have some surprises for us up its sleeve! (I love this BTW).

I just can't believe this. But Czisny being able to go to the GPF is a BIG plus for her, esp. if she can capitalize on the opportunity that awaits her there. But no more easy competition. She'll be up against the big guns there (assuming they don't bomb THEIR GP events).

(If we directly compare scores, Slutskaya (our best) still has 20 points on Czisny, so (Alissa's) far from a serious contender. But maybe victories over some other big ones like Kostner and Suguri will give her some added confidence.)

STILL not convinced though. She has to show me that she can place respectably well (medal) at the GPF before I consider her a possible contender for the third US Olympic spot. (This will tell me that she has real consistency and is a force to be reckoned with.) And she'd better not bomb Nats, either, because most likely someone else won't.

She's getting 7 scores now and almost all her elements are level 3 and level 4 AMAZING!!!!

Congrats to Alissa. This will do wonders for her confidence and for hinged boots. It is only October though. A long way away till Nats. She will have more rest going into GPF than the others but still has to go to Japan. I will be interested to see how Kimmie does in her GP's. She just put a lot more pressure on her.

I'll be interested to see how Carolina and Fumie do in their next GP. Fumie is coming off injury so her not doing well is a bit expected but she has got tough competition to make the Japanese olympic team and they look at GP's. I don't know what is wrong with Carolina. She almost finished last in the FS.

But Alissa has openly stated that she'd like to make the 2006 Olympic team. Now that's some serious ambition...she's on the right track, anyway.

I wish I could understand your question better. What year are you talking about? AFAIK Cohen (when she did the GPF in 03, 04) was the only American I remember on the podium. What about last year? I don't think there were any American ladies on the podium...not that I can remember, anyway.

If I understand things correctly, the previous concept of "non-scoring events" has basically gone away. Skaters are invited to two events only - both scoring. I like this change - more competitors involved, more opps to see the up and comers, etc.

AGGHH!! CCTV-5 showed replay action of Ladies LP's for Meier, Liu, Lueng, Hawker and skipped to Fumie. Now we're live (I assume) on Men's warmup!! I hope they show the replay of the rest of the top ladies after the Men's.

Well, off to root for Griasev and Buttle as part of my Men's Grand Prix team member in this comp, and and for Weir for sentimental reasons!!

Um...well I can't speak for anyone else, but I can assure you that if Kimmie improves from event to event I will gush over that because I think steady improvement is noteworthy. If Kimmie medals at a GP event I will gush because it is noteworthy when a just out of juniors skater 'makes it' on the senior circuit. If she medals twice, I'll gush more. If she medals twice AND improves, say by going from second to first, I'll gush EVEN more. And if she say, wins the short, and keeps it together for the long, well I'll gush because that is a huge competitive achievement for a recently out of juniors skater. Oh, and before I hear that both Kimmie and Alissa aren't literally just out of juniors...please don't bother, I'm using this as a way of saying entering the top tier. Oh, and btw, if say, Bebe does better at her next event, I'll gush....etc. See where this is headed....RIGHT to my gushing over how amazing Czisny's win today was accept I don't feel like it now because of all this negativity....and while 20 odd points behind Slutskaya, she would have been second, according to the figures provided by MM at last years GPF. Not too shabby. (oh, and please don't remind me that we really can't compare across competitions because the rules changed or the judges are different or whatever; i get it.).

Minus the qualifying round Sasha got a 185 at worlds last year compared to the 168 for Alissa here. At Campbell's Sasha got a 122 for the LP. Alissa a 109 here. Comparisons are hard with totals but the technical score is something that you can compare for this year. Sasha a 61.06 at Campbell's. Alissa a 54.66 at SC.

Minus the qualifying round Sasha got a 185 at worlds last year compared to the 168 for Alissa here. At Campbell's Sasha got a 122 for the LP. Alissa a 109 here. Getting to the "Top Six" generally requires getting through a whole bunch of things below the top six first. Alissa has done very well at both SA and SC this season. That's not "hype" that's fact. We have yet to see what Kimmie (or a whole string of others) will present to us this season. I hope they present something even better. That just makes the competition more interesting, at least that's my opinion.

The "dissing" of skaters who have yet to compete on the GP circuit so far this year, for whatever their reasons, is far more entertaining to me than the "dissing" of skaters who ARE competing, and have laid down their programs and been judged and scored. In my humble opinion, of course. I'd love to hear comments and opinions about some actual programs that have been presented, rather than speculations about those who have yet to compete, for whatever reason. The season has started!!

Well, of course I added together the short and the long programs from worlds, without the qualifying round. Do you think I'm an amateur, LOL? (That's why Michelle is third instead of fourth, BTW.)

Incidentally, if you look at these numbers, Irina really cannot be overtaken if she repeats her Worlds perfomance at Turino. However, that was the skate of a lifetime. Take off 10 points to bring her back down to her "normal" level, and we've got us a barnburner. Something like 60 +120 = 180 should win the gold medal.
