Ladies Free Skating - 2013 Trophée Eric Bompard

Well, she badmouthed Adelina in a recent interview, so she's probably the opposite of happy about losing to her. Plus, she was upset at the PCS difference between her and Kostner, so losing on PCS might be a double blow here...

If true, then she may be delusional and hard for me to root for.

Agreed. Less than 200 overall is not good enough. Gracie vs Ashley debate continues. And no high hopes for Olympics podium. I see Mao, Yuna, Russian.

I saw at least 2 mistakes in Ashley's program... she has a 6 point lead after the SP so maybe can still take it. I find myself barely caring about this podium placement though, and thinking mainly about the Olympics. She needed to dominate this to convince me she could be on the Olympic podium. That didn't happen. But at least she's still skating strong.

When? Link/s please!

Frankly I think Adelina is the better skater overall when she and Anna both hit.

Wagner guaranteed GPF, Sotnikova looks like almost guaranteed GPF, Pogorilaya guaranteed GPF.

Ashley Wagner - Very high quality of execution of the four clean jumping passes. A lot of elevation and solid landings with good flow out. Spins much better than in the short program.

Decent speed and flow but the choreography lacked character, however. Her movement was incidental, she could have been skating to anything (in terms of character and not necessarily timing).

She didn't. She was misquoted by the scandal-hungry newspaper.

Who will the last two spots go to, do you guys think?

Honestly, why does the GPF only take six instead of eight. So sad to see so many good skaters left out...

Into the GPF:

1 Mao
2 Wagner
3 Pogorilaya
4 Sotnikova

last 2 spots to be determined:
1 Julia needs just another medal of any color
2 Kostner needs to win gold or win silver with 201 points to qualify to the GPF
3 Tuk needs to win gold

tie breakers

**Elena R. - will depend on Carolina Kostner's result at CoR
*Akiko S. - long shot

I see Adelina dropped the lutz loop combo and no 3/3 so she saw the Flutz dg loop and actually made a change from the sp.

I think she realized that she needs second place here so she just played for the second place - An easier program but one that she has a very high chance of skating cleanly. It worked out well for her.

I am very impressed with the way that Ashley is not backing down from that 3F3T. And this long program is growing on me. She can skate it better, and the time to do that is not today but in Sochi (fingers crossed.)

And yes - beautiful dress!

None of the programs made any sense. For a moment Wagner just wandered around the rink, and I prefer Adelina's extremely tacky Burlesque program to whatever this is. None of the top three's programs are Olympic season worthy.

Didn't the first Grand Prix ( well Champion Series Final) have 8? I remember Olga's Markovas leopard dress lol

Yep. Some strong skates from the russians here. Mix that with the asians including Yuna's return and our chances look miniscule. Still, Olympic upsets used to happen, maybe they could again. Ashley and Gracie both technically have the ability to be on the Olympic podium with perfect skates and perhaps a couple mistakes by their rivals. We just haven't seen that happen in a very long time.

I will say that I was nicely surprised Ashley could keep such a high score with a couple mistakes, even if it may have been a bit overscored. A few years ago, Ashley skating a long program with a couple mistakes would end up with 105+. Really glad she's with Nicks, even if he can't travel anymore. I wonder if he'll decide to travel to the Olympics for heaven's sake... I'd guess that he might do it.

Ashley needs to separate herself more from the "crowd" if she wants a medal at Sochi to be a possibility. That being said, I think she was more into the music this time.
