The PCS is supposed to reflect the "artistry" of the program, no? I think it should even be lowered a bit when a skater falls. Falling on your *** hurts the beauty of the program, for sure.

I'll be interested to see the protocals, I though her spins were so so (0 to -1 GOE, maybe -2 for the one she stumbled coming out of ) and the footwork could have a lot better (it was just a little too hard for her I think). She did have the best COE spiral I saw (Not Kwan but better than the agonizing squiggles most skaters produce with this. I even appreciate her not Biellmanning all over the d*mned place.
But, while I'm nitpicking, what is it that makes her toe loops look so weird?
What I've noticed about PC scores,
Get a reputation for good PCs and you can still rake them in with a subpar performance (a la Cohen now)
Be an uneven skater technically with low PCs and a really good performance won't change them much (if any)
I can sort of agree with this, I don't always agree about _who_ I think is better or worse in the area of PCs but as a measure of overall skating ability I can see them being more stable.
But ....
Jump better than anybody else and watch your PCS go through the roof. Don't think the skaters (or their teams) don't pick up on this either.

To me, this just shows that figure skating is, after all, a young person's game. With Kimmie hitting 7 triples including two triple-triples, and with skaters like Mao Asada and Yu-na Kim coming on board next season, the old guard cannot reasonably hope to remain competitve.
Yes, they can still skate pretty, but as we have seen over and over, the PCS just track the TES (except in the singular case of Sasha, who gets high PCS no matter how wobbly her spiral, or how many slip-slidy landings she has).
What I wish for is a revival of serious pro competitions, to parallel the amateur events. I like those pro contests where the competitors are limited to only three jumps, for instance, and can be won by exquisite presentation. Leave he "higher, faster, stronger" to younger legs.

After Sasha's "why am I here performance?" We were all waiting to be happy for Kimmie. We thought she'd be on the podium for her first Worlds. Well....
Poor Joannie and the Canadians in general, home town is the worst for them.
Fumie is a tried and true skater. Not surprised that she got silver.
The only arguable result was Elena. Much booing from the audience for Sokolova's scores. A clean program with all those triples. Personally, I do not like her style but she did a great competitive skate. Many people saying she wuzrobd.
Anyway, Sasha is a damn good skater. It just wasn't her day. What will she do now?

What's needed is a new category of eligible skating for the non-jumpers. Maybe call it interpretive skating (I think that name is reserved for something else but I can't think of anyting better), reduced jumping content (maybe nothing over two revolutions) and a premium on execution (with strict format rules (no vocal music, no props etc) and _very_ strict standards of entry (don't ask me how yet) so the mediocre jumpers without special other skills don't crowd in any more than necessary),
I'd be glad to see something like that. But I think there's basically no chance for it.

Just saw the results -- WOW. But on further reflection (once I had time to pick myself off the floor and get it together), I'm not really surprised. Kimmie had improved a lot between Nats and Olys, so by that token a few weeks more, she was certainly in Worlds-winning shape if she kept up that pace.
Poor Joannie, though. Well, she proved she could ALMOST do it. (Sorta almost, anyway.) Let's see what happens with her over the next 4 years.

Kimmie won. OK. She skated her butt off. And delivered a clean 7 triple program. But her skating leave A LOT to be desired. If this type skating (unfinishsed, jorinish, awkward stroking, etc.) keeps winning. I'm done with amature FS competetion. Not going to waste time.

:yes: Mafke, that's just what I'm talking about. Call it "interpretive skating," that's fine.
I wouldn't include it under the "eligible skating" umbrella, though. That would mean the ISU, the Olympics, etc., all over again. Let the new sport get its own circuit together. (All it takes is a few million dollars in start-up money, LOL.)
