Ladies FS

It's a big mistake to dispatch Cynthia here. Her confidence will no doubt suffer from this experience. With no jumps, there's no way international judges will toss out those ridiculous close-to-7 PCS at Nationals to her.

I'm glad she's gone forever. I don't understand why Canada keeps on sending these 'pretty princesses' to international stage.

But Cynthia does have the world class facial expression.

anyone know what jumps Cynthia did?

Sorry, no, we didn't go live till the final group, so missed her skate.

With regards to comments about Kimmie's "airplane arms" and lack of artistry on here, she is a teenage girl, so how mature and expressive can she be yet in her career? She skated to Flamenco music and her arm movements reflected this, along with some of her spin postions, with the music, not ignoring the music like some of the Men I could mention. IMO having seen her for the first time this season, I think she's improved artistically since last year, plus you have to compare what she did to the rest of the skaters in this competition.

And thanks to all who have done the very hard work of giving us the PBP. I tried to do it once and couldn't. You all have my very deep gratitude!! :)

And that's it till March and Tokyo!!

There is no lady in Seniors who is capable of pro artistry. If Kimmie hangs around till Vancouver, there will be a discernable difference in artistry than here. I think she has less problem with artistry than most. Zhang may become tiresome.

I actually think Kimmie's artistry has improved this year. Lori Nichol is a Mistress of giving her skaters programs that either hide or miminize their flaws. She's also still a teenager and has things she needs to improve on. Show me a skater that doesn't. This program is a good step in the right direction for Kimmie though.

I don't like a blue dress for a Flamenco though. That's a style of dance/music that calls for red, black or something flamboyant colour wise. Blue just is not it!!

I agree. As much as I say she's unexciting, she HAS made noticeable improvement in this area. Maybe her big "breakthrough" is around the corner...

I agree with you there, the costume didn't really reflect the Flamenco theme either in colour or design, hopefully a different one for Worlds will be made.:)

If they toss out 7s to Emily, Kimmie certainly deserves 8s.

neither Kimmie or Emily deserve 7s. Kimmie is a good jumper. That's all. Her low wobbly spirals are a disgrace and her high, slow spins as well, Not to mention that she doesn't even know what music is playing. No wonder people are no longer watching figure skating.

You either have it or you don't. It's not somethihng that is learned. Kimmie does not have IT. Granted Lori Nichols did a great job doing choreography for someone with no rythem and no natural dance skills. Didn't you watch teenage Michelle do "Solome"? She had IT! Sasha has IT! Zang has IT! Even Eliot Halverson has IT. Kimmie just wasn't born with that ability.

I know that by doing a triple/triple would let her do 7 triples. How about doing 2 triple/triples? what good does that do? she would end up doing two triple toe jumps instead of doing two lutz or flip jumps. I thought that would make her TES go lower yet people seem to think that Kimmie would need TWO triple/triples in order to win over Mao or Miki.
As far as I can see you could only squeeze an extra half a point out of doing two triple-triples.

With two 3/3's you could do an extra double Axel (3.3) on your seventh jumping pass to make up the difference between the extra toe versus the extra flip (1.5 points) together with a double toe on your other combination (1.3 points).

Mao with a triple Axel would still be quite a bit ahead in TES. Theoretically Mao could do 3A, two 3Lz's and two 3F's in a seven triple program without a triple-triple at all.

It would be great if she could land at least one actual lutz, but to date, she really can't.;)

The judges, unfortunately, don't seem to care about Asada's weaknesses (and she has a few) or marking her accordingly. But that's another subject.

Phaneuf's FS jumps were: 2a, 2a, 3z(fall), 2s, 3t-2t-2r, 3t(fall), 2f-2t. The detailed protocols are published at: http://www.isufs.org/results/fc2007/

P.S. Phaneuf's coach was quoted during Canadians last month as saying that she believed Phaneuf was at least six months away from being in competitive shape. I for one don't think Phaneuf is "gone forever" and I'm looking forward to seeing her skate next season. :)

Where is her 3Sal?? I remember her doing 3t, 3sal last month at Nationals. Her triple jumps are now reducing to a single 3toe.

Six months are around the corner.

In the short program, Asada's lutz has been consistently given negative GOE.

That's because she's trying to fix "flutz", and as a result the air position was skewed a bit. When she does it "normal" way, she usually receives plus GOE (like at Skate America or Japanese Nationals).

When Asada does her triple lutz "normally" (i.e with a flutz), her edge coming out of the jump is fast and flowing, and her air position is pretty good. Those positive aspects of that jump balance out the negative GOE of the flutz. Or, the judges are just cheaters!:p
When she masters the lutz on the correct edge, there will be no more questions asked about her positive GOE scores, hopefully. At the moment, the "true" lutz landings are a bit scratchy, giving her negative GOE.
