Ladies - Short Program

Who is her preferred skater? can somebody educate me?

I am all for Caroline Zhang. She is amazing, I'm so glad she withstood the pressure cooker at Round one.

I like Caroline, too, but for the sake of argument  I'll go for Mira here =)

I am guessing his/her preferred skater is Nana Takeda.

I don't give much hypes to the "rivalry" between Zhang and Nagasu.
Nagasu has much better potentials in jumps.
This may be the last chance for Zhang to win by her own merits.

It seems that the American federation wants Zhang to win. The judges are well persuaded by giving her generous PCS.

It's not the USFSA that likes Caroline Zhang so much, it's the international judges. (After all, Zhang only finished second at U.S. Nationals.)

The judges for this contest are from Azerbajian, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Japan, Norway, Russia, Slovakia and Turkey. Not exactly a group that is waiting for instructions from USFS as to which of the three American girls to favor over the other two, LOL.

You're pretty hypocritical. You rail against skaters with no jump content. How about Nana Takeda? I watched her performance at JPG Taipei. She's old, and doesn't even have 3f, 3lutz, can't recall what other triples she does not have.
Very mediocre.

Mirai and Caroline have every triple jump.

I don't expect much from Takeda or other two Japanese.
Takeda landed 3lz for the fist in January, and her 3f is like P-Chan's 3a. There are a couple of promising novice ladies in Japan. I hope Japan can keep 3 spots.

Nana Takeda has a wonderful personality on the ice, very charming and fun and upbeat and even dramatic at times, but she's not a jumper at all. Her exhibitions always seem to be her best performances.

Maybe Japan is going to go through a dry cycle after Mao and Miki are done...most of their young talent usually goes into seniors ASAP and there hasn't been much in terms of really young prodigies. LIke 2003, when Yukina and Miki finished 1-2, or Mao's ascent immediately afterwards. Of course, Mao could end up sticking around as long as Michelle....

Kudos to Caroline, Mirai and Ashley! Looks like an American sweep is a big possibility.

Zhang is fun to watch, but basically her strength is back contortion-circ soliel on ice. She flutzs badly, although I gather by her falls on this jump she is trying to correct this. That type of back flexability you are born with, not exactly an acquired skill.
