Ladies SP

My biggest fear is that joannie only has a 3pt lead on miki and carolina. Miki quad or kostner triple triple can take that away. She might need to be cleaner than patrick to medal.

Don't they change judging panels tomorrow? If so, it might be stricter. Tonight was pretty generous. Come on Yuna deserves to be in 1st but with that big of a lead?

Miki hasn't had a ratified quad in this era of the COP where instant replay is used, let alone her triples. Miki isn't liked by the judges too much. Carolina has been gifted before but if she's splatting, she might not be on podium.

Tomorrow will be a new day.

And on a positive note -- I have to say again that Yun-a's skate REALLY impressed me. It had everything, it wasn't just jumps or elements, it had EVERYTHING. It's SO HARD to do what she did, it's so hard to not only have the technical side but do everything in just exquisite fashion. Totally deserved a record score. I've never been a Yun-a fan, at least not initially, but she has slowly been improving in musicality, interpretation, artistry and everything that a champion skater should have, and tonight she just took it to yet another new level.

While I'm sad the US can't really be a part of the top rivalry, I am happy that Yun-a and Mao have found such great artistry. I was unimpressed after Arakawa's win in 2006, she obviously deserved the gold but I just didn't feel a connection to her music. But I really predict that I will be excited and proud after whoever wins in 2010.

And I hope Mao will do good too =(

I don't think she's a shoe-in only for the reason that Yuna, IIRC, has never executed the perfect FS in the senior racks. However, a monster 10 point lead allows Yuna to win with one fall, maybe two. Mao is more likely to catch up because her technical content can carry that. Joannie has been very consistent but she doesn't have the technical content. Even +GOEs can only make up so much ground.

Yuna skated clean at COR in '07. I think it's strange her SP score is so high considering she's been dinged on an edge warning this season. In fact, I don't think she's received a +2 on her 3F-3T this whole season. Even with the big lead though, Mao's planned technical content is 10 pts higher than Yuna, and if Mao goes clean, it'll be a nail biter.

Thank you for the correction.

I honestly don't know how I'm going to watch tomorrow. I'm tired from last night and I was only awake from mass nerve adrenaline. I'm hoping it's going to be pretty epic tomorrow.

But Yuna's GOEs will drive away that 10 points. We will see over 200 ??

With tonight's judging? If she stays on her feet. Falls will negate those GOEs as mandatory deductions. Incidentally, Mao can grab GOEs. I don't know why people think she can't. Her program has transitions and she gets good air.

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I am a fan of both Yuna and Mao. I don't know what the fuss is about Yuna's score - she was just amazing today. She may have been a bit overmarked, but so was everyone else, so comparatively it was fair. Even without the generous scores she should still be far ahead of everyone else.

Wow ! Yu-Na looks so much more taller in that program. That was what was capable of when all 8 cylinders hit.. 76 point is unbelievable.

Couldn't make it to the Staples Center today, I am still in the Northern Cal, 300 miles north.( $600 worth of tickets wasted.) We will be there tomorrow for the Finals, and Gala on sunday.

o: These two are up there on my list of favorite coach - student partnerships.

Everyone's saying Joannie is the dark horse. I think of her more as a real contender now. To me, the real dark horse is MIKI! She could really end up on that podium tomorrow!

Welcome to Golden Skate, Gofigure79. Post often, post long! :agree:

Yu-na Kim was out of this world, but besides that my two favorites were Alena Leonova and Elena Gedevanishvilli.

Oh, what a shame. Have fun tomorrow and Sunday!

The judging overall today was pretty inflated. You could see all the delighted faces in the K&C, nearly everyone was thrilled with their scores. Of the top half that I saw, not a single score wasn't at least 3-4 points higher than it should have been.

Was impressed with Rachael Flatt's expression and artistry today. Wish she could've pulled out the 3-3 though... And oh Alissa. Poor girl. Hope she pulls up into ten 10 at least.

Mao looked nervous and tense. Darned lutz. Her 3-3 better have been ratified though, that was one of her best ones this season. I still prefer her over Yu-Na, so I hope she can at least grab silver. No complaints over the deficit though, Yu-Na was amazing. Good for her. I'm anticipating 200+ tomorrow night.

Well technically, she had an ! -GOEs are supposed to be applied at the discretion of the judges, which I don't think they did. Had a skater done a flutz-toe, they would not score over 70. My 2 cents.

Doing a triple triple in the womens is like doing a quad triple in the mens. Mao is capable of scoring 135 if she is clean. Kim scored less than 120 at 4CC. Kim is no way a shoe in even with a 10 pt lead.

REALLY??? I was a bit upset that judges left no chance of competition between Mao and Yuna. Don't get me wrong.Yu-na deserves what she got, but I
just wanted to see a chance for Mao or Johannie to win.According to your opinion, it seems possible that we might have major upset tomorrow! YEAH!!!
BTW, I believe Rachael is going to be the next American top skater. There is something about her that attracts me very much. She still has a lot to work on and I can wait to see how she is going to skate next season. I know she will improve 100times more because of this experience. Good luck Rachel, tomorrow!!!
Alissa, I am very sorry, but today is today. You will have a great skate tommorrow!!!
