I first noticed Laurine when I was helping Paula out with JGP coverage. I don't remember which JGP it was, but Laurine just flew through her SP. I am a sucker for big jumps for ladies, and Laurine had the height and distance but needed control and stamina. I recall she struggled in the FS, but I hope she keeps improving! Thanks for a great OP!

An interesting skater--and that's one of my highest compliments.
Watching her live at WTT was fun.

I can't remember if you shared anything specifically about Laurine in your "WTT experience" thread a couple months back. Any interesting observations?

I hope she comes to SA or SC, probably my only real chances to see her this coming season... unless she somehow makes it to Worlds!

Laurine was a joy to watch at WTT. She skated well and seemed so happy to be there. She scored a season best in the SP; plus, IIRC, she placed ahead of Mae-Berenice in both the short and free programs. Laurine seems to have a very legitimate shot at becoming the#1 lady in France.

I think I said that I liked her music and her skating style. :)

Thinking back, she stood out as having good upper-body movement, her elements were well timed to the music, and her skating looked to have pretty good speed.

But I usually just take an over-all approach to whether I like a skater or not. So, at the end of her SP at WTT, my sister and I both said, "That was great!"

P.S. musicality is such a difficult thing to describe, but Laurine has it.

Definitely has musicality! I loved the Lana Del Rey choice for the SP... something a little different. It was always funny to hear the collective groans of seeing 'Carmen' listed as her music choice, until the song begins playing and everyone is

Though, I was always curious why Laurine used an instrumental version here, since LDR is known more for her voice/lyrics.

Because it's summer and the off-season, and I have way too much time on my hands, I attempted to drop Lana Del Rey's vocals over the top of Laurine's instrumental short program. Laurine's edit is really strange because it has an abrupt cut in the middle of the verses, which causes LDR's vocals to get completely out of sync and virtually impossible to edit the vocal verses in any way that makes logical sense. It was a mess. I could've scrapped all the audio and done my own sound mix, but that would take all the fun out of it. ;) So instead, I just took a track of LDR singing acapella and used 12 separate vocal edits to lay over the top of Laurine's SP from 2015 WTT.

All the original audio/video from WTT remains intact -- the only thing added was LDR's vocals. The first verse is a bit of a mess but I'm throwing in the towel... I'm just glad the song had a verse with French lyrics that didn't sound out of place.

Laurine Lecavelier - 'Carmen' (LDR vocals)

As expected, Laurine will be at TEB! Unfortunately though, it is her only spot on the GP series. I will still be rooting for her! (After Liza & Yulia, at least. ;) )

TEB will be the only stop for other interesting ladies as well, such as Kiira Korpi and Angelīna Kučvaļska. I think France will be one of my favorite ones to watch this season!

Made a few updates to the OP, including formatting changes & tables.

Also, new video of Laurine from the 2015 Summer Cup in Lyon (love the dress! ):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yX74_AMju4

She needs to build stamina before the big comps...she was running on empty there at the end. It started off nicely though. It's music she can dance to and she's a great dancer.

Not sure about the huge ruffle in purple on her dress, I found it distracting and kind of messed up her line on that side of her body.

I kinda liked it! The French usually get a pass for their eclectic fashion style. ;)

That purple pouf doesn't look very aerodynamic. :) I'll never be able to accept magenta and creamsicle orange as a color combo, no matter the skater's nationality.

Still love Laurine though.

I posted a video from Chafik at the same event and he was also totally wiped out. I wonder if they didn't have a proper warmup?

I kind of liked the dress.

In her defense, I can tell you that the ice at the Summer Cup was a nightmare.
If Lyon has nearly the worst ice of the French rinks, it's not helped by the summer, and every year, it melts and the rink becomes a giant pool. Difficult to have good feelings on such a flabby ice...
But Laurine has so much talent I think she can make this program work !

Same problem with the ruffle. I found that it should be a little less huge. But I love the color of the dress. I love the music. I must see the program with the tv cameras and not with an amateur video in order to judge it completely. We don't see well his face and I think it's a type of music which ask to the skater to "play" with his face.

Thanks for bumping this thread! I think Laurine is one of the most under-appreciated and underexposed skaters out there. I really hope France will give her some more international assignments this year!
