Laurine Lecavelier

It's almost time for Skate America and our first look at Laurine's SP! I can hardly wait. Fingers crossed and thumbs held for her. :)

Laurine's official bio has been updated for the start of the GP season, and I noticed something interesting: Jean-Francois Ballester is now officially listed as one of her coaches! (Rohene Ward is on her list of former coaches, but I recall reading elsewhere - here or FSU? I can't remember - that Kori Ade is moving from Colorado Springs to Nashville later this year, and Rohene may have already left CS as part of the changes, which might explain that).

Based on her spectacular showing at Masters de Patinage it looks like this set up is suiting Laurine down to the ground. :) I think she's going to surprise a lot of people who've been writing her off as 'inconsistent' at SA - she's not in the second warm-up group for no reason!

Laurine has been working in Switzerland with JF Ballester for 3 weeks this summer and he was with her at Masters. But Kori Ade is still her main and official coach. She needed someone to work with when she's in Europe and when Kori isn't available to travel with her as sending one of her (Kori's) assistants would be complicated schedule wise and expensive. Enter Ballester ;) who's a wonderful man and a very competent coach (even with non pair skaters).

A very sensible arrangement. :)

Oh, I do like Laurine's SP! It's the ex-bellydancer in me, but I was cheering for her travelling camels and her step sequence to the tabla section even if tabla is supposed to rule the hips not the feet (you can't do bellydance hips on ice, it won't allow for the right isolations, so I think feet are an acceptable substitute). She's going to be blasting through that 3T3T combo by the time Nationals comes around, too.

:hap10:

Congrats to Laurine on a great competition at Skate America! She fought hard and got her highest ever Grand Prix finish. Wonderful start to the season. Great to see her so happy.

I am liking her long program this season. She is becoming quite an elegant lady in her skating (but then she went to being funny and sweet when interacting with her coach... :))

She did such a great job in the FS, and the program suits her to a tee. I hope she's proud of her accomplishment; she deserves to be. Her cleanest GP skates and highest placement to date!

Almost time for Inge Solar Memorial! Fingers crossed that the timing will be reasonable enough that I can watch Laurine on the livestream...

Thankfully Laurine drew an early timeslot, so I got to watch! She was skating with a taped knee and missed the opening combo, but tacked a neat 2T onto the 3Lz and had her typically excellent 2A at the end. Scored 56+ which is only a few points off her SB; I think she got better level calls on spins etc here than she did at Skate America that helped to compensate for the loss of the second 3T. And the commentator was immensely complimentary about her music interpretation skills and whole-body skating, which is just as it should be.

She looked stressed and unhappy with her performance in the kiss and cry, but she's got IdeF looming and a taped knee, so that's not surprising. Fingers crossed she feels better by Friday week!

Good save and quick thinking from Laurine today. But I'm really worried about her knee. Seems like the injuries keep coming non-stop. [emoji22] She seemed to be in pain -- not sure if physical, emotional or all of the above. :/ I know that she has very high expectations of herself. Hope she is taking good care of herself.

I'm taking comfort from the fact that it was only kinesiology tape, not full-on strapping or a brace. She should be okay by next weekend, fingers crossed. And while she was clearly bothered by missing the 3T3T, unlike a lot of the other skaters she didn't let a single hint of it show in her performance, which is just like her.

She's skating at 1:00am my time tonight. I'll try to stay awake...

How long is it until Laurine, Harriet? Two hours or so?
