Here's a photo of 4 Minnesota skaters who have qualified for St. Paul Nationals in their home state -- (L to R) junior Kirsten Olson, and seniors Rohene Ward, Eliot Halverson and Molly Oberstar -- holding up the official 2008 St. Paul Winter Carnival Buttons this past Saturday (the Carnival will take place during Nationals):

Minneapolis Star Tribune article on Angie Lien, who will turn 27 this week and will be the oldest senior lady competing at Nationals for the second straight year: http://www.startribune.com/sports/13721116.html

"I definitely have days where I think, 'Wow, I feel old out here today,'" Lien said. "I'm a little more comfortable with it now. I love being around the girls, and the younger ones make me feel young at heart.

"I was definitely not the type of kid who wanted to go to the Olympics. I just wanted to work hard and make progress and have something else in my life besides skating. It worked out really well. The fun I've had, and the friends I've made, have been great."

I just checked out the video of Rohene from 2002 Exhibition in Austria. See Sylvia's link above. That was 5 years ago and I still contend if he he skates clean for 2 programs, he will win the US Nationals. I think the world of Johnny and Evan but this guy is really better. Of course, there are the demons of messing up, but maybe this year there will be none. At least you can see what he can do from the video.

I have said it before and I'll say it again, Rohene rocks!! I wish him the best for Nationals and will be over the moon if he skates 2 clean programs and shows the world what he can do. He could sooo win if he keeps his nerves in check. I want Johnny to get his title back but I want Rohene on that podium even more.

Good to see the local publicity. Now I wish they'd step up the national news. Can't spread interest if no one - or relatively few - even know what's going on. I have been seeing promos on NBC which is a good sign.
